Dancing on the picket line…

I don’t know why I find it quite irritating to see the strikers dancing on the picket line. The physios today were worse than ever with their clapping and dancing.

OP posts:
Thesearmsofmine · 26/01/2023 19:24

I think it would help them to keep warm, it’s cold today! Also I think striking probably feels quite empowering, actually standing up and doing something instead of just moaning about it and doing nothing.

MichelleScarn · 26/01/2023 19:26

Am imagining ops perfect picket line like 2 musicals have seen recently with the people on it suitably showing their desperation and need....
At The End of The Day Les Mis and Grovel Grovel from Joseph...
Suitably begging and knowing their sombre place?

I know. Not sure why but it really gives me the ick.

You know what give me the ick (apart from that phrase)? A government so corrupt and self serving refusing to pay a decent wage to people who have literally given their working lives to helping others.

But, you do you, hun. 🙄

Thedogscollar · 26/01/2023 19:27

Can we ban the shitty phrase "gives me the ick"
Bloody awful phrase.

Beaminggreat · 26/01/2023 19:18

‘What do you want them to be doing on the picket line?’

Probably look a bit more somber. Don’t know why.

Is that what you do when you're on the picket line?

Because for most people, standing up for your rights with others in the same boat actually inspires a kind of courage and solidarity that makes you feel good, more human somehow. Especially when the public go past and show obvious support.

Plus, of course it's frigging cold and they're not getting paid that day so might as well dance to keep warm and keep each others' spirits up.

MichelleScarn · 26/01/2023 19:30

And they can do what they bloody want on the picket line, they're not being paid at the time!

Cats4life · 26/01/2023 19:30

I was striking today and my toes were numb because it was so cold.... but god forbid I move around incase some rando prat gets the ick

🤣

growgrowinggrown · 26/01/2023 19:33

I love beeping and waving as I drive past the picketters and seeing them cheer or wave the flags in retaliation.
I want to see excitement and optimism that things will get better.
Theyre freezing their bollocks off and fighting for a better future, cut them some slack.

antipodeancanary · 26/01/2023 19:36

I kind of agree OP. When we campaigned to save a local a&e we didn't dance. It was a serious matter not a game. We marched with angry faces and placards. No ifs no buts no a&e cuts.

BadgerHeed · 26/01/2023 19:36

Maybe they should have been standing around an old oil drum with bits of wood burning in it, while wearing donkey jackets and Benny hats.
Would that suit you better op?

springerspanielpuppy · 26/01/2023 19:45

I would sing or dance and laugh with my comrades and keep warm. I fully support the strikes.

I wonder if you felt that they were revelling while someone else was having their treatment cancelled and maybe suffering? @Beaminggreat

FWIW I think the strike is partially because people are already not receiving treatment and it’s going to get worse.

ArcaneWireless · 26/01/2023 19:57

I know. Not sure why but it really gives me the ick.

I suspect they have a lot more to concern themselves with than ‘the ick’.

DNBU · 26/01/2023 19:58

Beaminggreat · 26/01/2023 19:22

No I think they deserve a lot better pay. Absolutely no idea why it annoyed me.

What a pointless thread.

gravyriceandchips · 26/01/2023 20:01

There was a picket by mine at jacobs recently they had a bbq everyday.

Grow up OP. You try standing on a picket line in winter and you’d do anything to stay warm. Bet you were out bloody clapping for them and call them saints. Well applause don’t pay the bills and they’re highly trained professionals. Show a bit of bloody respect. The “ick” FFS 🙄

bellac11 · 26/01/2023 20:07

Beaminggreat · 26/01/2023 19:16

Stupid terminology

ArcaneWireless · 26/01/2023 20:09

A bbq?

Good on them. Heat and food.

Hope they weren’t dancing too.

The resultant ick froth would have dampened their coals.

Justalittlebitduckling · 26/01/2023 20:13

Striking makes them feel empowered and less hopeless about their circumstances. I used to live in South Africa and the strikes there involved a lot of music and dancing.

GlassBunion · 26/01/2023 20:18

I suspect that the picketers were feeling jubilant in feeling that they were doing something positive to help increase their current earning potential and feel vindicated in their need for better terms and conditions.

I'd be doing a little whoop-whoop twirl if I were on a picket line.

Abcdefu · 26/01/2023 20:23

Why shouldn't they dance? Why would that effect you in any shape or form?

They aren't getting paid as they are taking industrial action, they can do what they want so the fact they are on the picket (and not across it) is great

Fordian · 26/01/2023 20:23

DM sad-face?

Sparklesocks · 26/01/2023 20:24

It’s cold and they are probably trying to keep their spirits up and stay positive to get what they’re striking for. Striking is about solidarity and strength in numbers so of course they’re going to try keep everyone’s energy levels high.

Honper · 26/01/2023 20:25

Completely agree OP. It would be mi more appropriate if they shot the state lackey police and politicos and started a revolution.

Honper · 26/01/2023 20:26
