Tea drinkers tend to be slimmer than coffee drinkers.
Those weird people who don't drink any hot drinks are slimmest of all.
I drink loads of strong coffee with oat milk.
I am fat.

Another chubby yea drinker here

Tea!

Ohchristmastreeohchristmastree · 26/01/2023 18:17

Slim tea drinker. I think I’m quite happy with a cup of tea when others might snack. I sometimes have coffee. Literally never drink water unless I’m exercising, then I drink warm water.

FlissyPaps · 26/01/2023 18:18

WillsandKatesDivorcePartyDJ · 26/01/2023 18:13

@FlissyPaps it was meant with love! I just don't understand how people function, especially those with busy jobs and/or kids. How do you break up the monotony?

I’ve never been a tea/coffee or caffeine drinker, so I suppose I’ve never known what it’s like to “not function” if I haven’t had a that fix of a brew.

I only don’t function when I haven’t had at least 6 hours of sleep. If I have my sleep, I can function completely normal by drinking just water.

LakieLady · 26/01/2023 18:18

Tea drinking fatty here. Although I think most of my excess weight is probably tea.

I counted how much I drank the other day: 11 big mugs of it.

lightand · 26/01/2023 18:19

I know someone who only drinks water.
He had a mini stroke at 50.

Seems to have good health since though, as far as I know

Girasoli · 26/01/2023 18:19

I drink lots of coffee and I think my BMI is around 19/20, DH doesn't like hot drinks (mainly drinks squash) and is medium sized.

WillsandKatesDivorcePartyDJ · 26/01/2023 18:20

@FlissyPaps but you know when you finish a really boring or hard task either at work or at home, how do you reward yourself. I make a coffee... what do you do? Or do you not reward yourself with food or drink, is that it? Is that the secret to weight loss?

thecatsthecats · 26/01/2023 18:21

I can't help with the data, but to add to the theory:

Hugh caffeine consumption can disrupt sleep.
Disrupted sleep leads to disregulated production of leptin and ghrelin that regulate appetite.

So in theory, high caffeine consumption can contribute to bad appetite management, and hence, weight gain.

VioletCharlotte · 26/01/2023 18:22

Coffee isn't fattening though? Unless you drink it with full fat milk and sugar...in which case, that is your problem, not the hot drink!

TheVanguardSix · 26/01/2023 18:22

I drink 2 sugary coffees with oat milk in the morning and 2 teas with oat milk and honey in the day (used to drink tea by the vat load but my heart is lousy and can’t handle too much caffeine- ironically, tea sets my heart off more than the coffee).

I’m chronically underweight… like Olive Oyl underweight and I’m tall. But I’m pretty sure I have Marfan’s (I’ve had an aortic dissection and I have loads of traits). Otherwise, I’d be a fat cat. I used to drink 6 cups of milky sweet tea before my dissection.

tiredmama23 · 26/01/2023 18:24

I drink both.

My BMI is 22/23 ish and I'm a size 10-12.

noimaginationforausername · 26/01/2023 18:25

I drink two cups of tea a day and I'm as fat as butter!

WillsandKatesDivorcePartyDJ · 26/01/2023 18:25

@VioletCharlotte I don't, I put that in the OP. I'm wondering about a more abstract theory about peoples enjoyment of the sensation, pleasure seeking, rewarding, needing stimulation side of caffeinated hot drinks which might also mean they are more likely to be overweight compared to those who see food as fuel and liquids as hydration, who are more likely to be slim.

I drink gallons of tea with sweetners and soy milk and am very fat 😪 but i also enjoy vodka so that may not help lol

I love cake, chocolate, biscuits, Gregg’s sausage rolls and bean and cheese melts. Love McDonalds, KFC, Chinese takeaways. All sorts of crap like that if I want to treat myself. Which is usually on a weekly basis.

A reward at work will probably be a couple of office custard creams or shortbread.

Don’t have the secret to weight loss though I’m afraid. Why do you ask?

WillsandKatesDivorcePartyDJ · 26/01/2023 18:26

@FlissyPaps.... because you're slim

OJbreakfasttime · 26/01/2023 18:27

I had weight loss surgery and the surgeon recommended avoiding caffeine (especially coffee which is obviously more caffeine) as it makes you feel more hungry.

I actually don't find that myself. In fact I find it impossible to have a cup of tea and not want a biscuit, yet coffee I will have on its own.

Tiny2018 · 26/01/2023 18:27

Size 6, no hot drinks other than the very odd Green Tea or Hot Chocolate if I meet with friends.

Too much wine though.

DaveyJonesLocker · 26/01/2023 18:27

YABU
I drink tea, milk and sugar "builders tea"
I'm fat.

TheSoapyFrog · 26/01/2023 18:28

I'm obese and don't drink any hot drinks. Although I do make exceptions for the odd mulled wine/cider and Irish coffee in the winter.

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 26/01/2023 18:29

Definitely not. I drink tea, DH drinks coffee and I'm much the fatter. I have mine black (no sugar) and he sticks cream in his, to add insult to injury.

Wasteofmoneyornot · 26/01/2023 18:30

I think it's more to do with what you have with the tea or coffee

If I make a coffee I'll often have a biscuit with it
If out .. I tend to have tea which I'll then want cake with
If I have a peppermint tea I'll have neither as that wouldn't taste right with peppermint tea

Hot chocolate I'd not have anything either as that's quite filling and usually after I'm done eating for the day

boboshmobo · 26/01/2023 18:30

I drink both , coffee stops my hunger so I drink that in the morning then water and tea in the afternoon . I'm slim ish ( size 8/10)

WillsandKatesDivorcePartyDJ · 26/01/2023 18:31

@Wasteofmoneyornot I honestly don't have anything with mine. I try to think about having a hot drink to take my mind off hunger!

Ok, erm I lane swim twice a week and attend a HIIT class twice a week. Walk 30 minutes to work and 30 minutes back Mon-Friday.

Don’t eat breakfast. Usually have a salad sandwich or a chicken salad wrap for lunch with an apple or orange. For evening meal I’ll have either some kind of meat, veg/salad and potatoes. Pasta bakes. Curries. Stews. And usually binge on a takeaway on a Saturday.

But the real secret must be not drinking hot drinks.
