Circumcision

SouthAfricanmuminUK · 26/01/2023 18:02

I was thoroughly abused by several English mums of my acquaintance for having my sons circumcised at birth. Although I did my research and found it to be better from a number of perspectives, nothing would convince them it was reasonable. I am wondering if they will retract their accusations now that it has been revealed that Diana, saintliest of all mothers, had both her boys circumcised ...

You’re laughing at the fact that babies have died as a result of newborn circumcision?

It happens. She's not making it up. It's rare, but it's a recognised risk of newborn circumcision.

EdgeOfACoin · 28/01/2023 06:00

Perhaps she would like to laugh at this Australian baby who died from circumcision in December 2021?

Did these new mums actually abuse you though, OP?

Non medical circumcision is abuse. Just like FGM. It’s 2023, why can’t people stop mutilating and chopping bits off their own children's genitalia?

gamerchick · 28/01/2023 06:55

7 pages in dudes and the OP hasn't been back.

HoodieBell · 28/01/2023 07:21

For those that think the death story is funny, there are roughly 119 infant circumcision related deaths each year in the US.

That poster is deliberately going around the boards doing the thing to wind people up. I wouldn't pay much attention to it.

As a single father im a bit agast reading what has been said by a lot on this thread.

I changed my name as this has affected me and I wanted to throw a male opinion on this subject for clarification. Im my early 30`s before my DW passed away, I had to have a circumcision due to medical reasons I'm not going into details on here. But I have first hand experience of growing up uncircumcised and then being circumcised.

So here are some facts from my personal experience, pre-circumcision I had a more sensitive experience than after. It does affect how much you feel, those that have had it all their life obviously have become accustomed to it.

Having good personal hygiene, makes no difference to pre or after.

From my perspective circumcision at birth is barbaric and should not be done. So to the OP and others please stop twisting the facts unless you have been through it yourself, thank you.

My father has echoed your experienced, having been circumcised later in life.

My circumcised husband was adamant our sons would be left intact.

This is really powerful and I hope those mothers who are all for this barbaric nonsense read your testimony and think twice.

Amazed at the hyper-aggressive comments. It isn't just one, it is pages and pages of them ... I guess being anonymous makes this board a magnet for the trolls and haters. I'm not wasting my time feeding you and will stick to Facebook in future. Just can't help a wry smile at how defensive you are about the hygiene practices of your men and boys. Good luck with that! Enjoy ...

The only troll is you op. I would tell anyone my views to their face.

The fact that pages upon pages of posters are almost unanimously against circumcision should clue you in...

Maybe, just maybe, all these people are not wrong?

GabriellaMontez · 28/01/2023 13:27

Did you honestly think people were going to say "i used to think it was barbaric and cruel to cut parts of babies genitals off but I've changed my mind because Diana did it"?

I presume you've had the same 'abuse' you received before the Diana story. That's because it's still disgusting.

pointythings · 28/01/2023 13:27

I don't think there is anything hyper-aggressive about pointing out the downside of infant circumcision... How many infant deaths a year do you think would be acceptable then, OP?

I think you are feeling a teensy bit defensive here.

Having a different opinion and explaining the reasons behind those opinions isn't being hyper aggressive, the most aggressive comments on this thread have actually been from posters discounting the complications that have been experienced by those who have been circumcised. I am going to assume that the mums who 'abused you' about your choices, were in fact likely just disagreeing with your choices and voicing why they disagreed. There have been nasty comments on both sides but I've only seen one person laughing at the tragic, preventable death of a baby who never had a choice.

SouthAfricanmuminUK · 28/01/2023 14:43

If I was running this board I would actually be more than a little worried that it is clearly a space in which Jewish, Muslim or African parents don't feel welcome to contribute. Just because you are all super hostile and people are frightened to say anything doesn't mean different views don't exist. As I said, I don't feel that there has been any real discussion, especially not of my second post which referred to a book which draws on up to date medical science. The World Health Organisation does recommend circumcision and especially against sexually transmitted diseases! You just seem to think you can browbeat with with the sheer force of your groupthink. In reality it is nothing more than bullying.

😂😂😂

Of course you can to play the race/religion card. Pathetic.

LaLuz7 · 28/01/2023 14:54

Female genital mutilation is also a cultural aspect in Africa. Are we not allowed to condemn the practice on fear we might offend the MN African users? You're hilarious!

pointythings · 28/01/2023 14:59

The WHO recommends circumcision in countries where HIV rates are high, and only as an adjunct to condom use and fidelity/abstinence.

That does not mean circumcision is recommended worldwide; the picture is far more nuanced than that

Circumcision just because of religion is never acceptable and is morally equivalent to FGM. Faiths need to evolve alongside medical science; there is no excuse for rigid adherence to norms of the pas 'just because'.

pointythings · 28/01/2023 15:02

It is also worth noting that HIV rates in the US are very high by global standards, despite the high incidence of infant circumcision.
