AIBU?
Do you like my dog?
SierraZoe · 25/01/2023 22:18
I’ve recently got a rescue (in red collar) he’s really naughty and ate my Jaffa cakes when I wasn’t looking. Shall I call him Jaffa?

Am I being unreasonable?

My parents Labrador ate:-
- Their kitchen
- The steering wheel of a hire van. Luckily the company it was hired from were not bothered at all.
- One shoe of a pair. About ten times.
- The Sunday Times and all of the supplements. Every week.
He was an arse. He managed to live until he eventually got dementia. Still miss the big lump.
Your dogs are beautiful.
IvysMum12 · 25/01/2023 22:57
He's adorable!
I was advised by a dog trainer to put a thin smear of Vick or Olbas oil on where your dog likes to chew. Even Labs and Goldies won't lick the stuff. Harmless to them.

LOL at eating the skirting board. Mine has done the same. Why do we just accept this behaviour? I was supposed to decorate and have a new sofa a year ago, sodding dog has the house looking like a garden shed. Can’t get rid of him though, he’s too well loved.

Oooh Joska is good - is it a Hungarian name presumably?
LumpyandBumps · 25/01/2023 22:46
I think Jeffrey is a good name, but how about Joska to reflect his Hungarian origin?
Yes, I think it’s the Hungarian equivalent of Joseph.
HarryBlaster · 25/01/2023 23:05
He’s beautiful. I also love grey beard, he looks so like my Harry did 🥰 Harry also ate a skirting board! Gotta love a Labrador’s appetite.

If you want the Jaffa orange theme, I knew a dog called Marmalade which I thought was a great name 😊
PolarBlair · 25/01/2023 23:09
I thought jaffa was an insulting slang term for Protestants (Orange men)

He's gorgeous! Can't see any viszla in him. But I'm not an expert. Yellow labs range from white, beige, light yellow, dark yellow to fox red. Fox red is a very similar colour to vizsla.
I'm sure he will be fine with a couple of Jaffa cakes. Labs seem to be able to eat anything !
Hope he settles in quickly.

Jeffrey, perhaps? Bertie requires my grandmother's accent to sound convincing. Unless you've got a voice like Frank Butcher, anyhow....
He looks like a Jeff
UselessExLondoner · 25/01/2023 23:12
Also gent some soft toys from charity shops to chew. Or some cardboard.. my dog is excellent at making boxes smaller for the recycling bin.
*supervision required to make sure he only chews and doesn't swallow!

He’s gorgeous.
careful with chocolate, saltanas, onions etc - loads of dogs poorly over Xmas at our vets.
personally I think he’s too lovely to be called after a biscuit, sorry.
Loki is nice and easy to say/call.
MadCattery · 25/01/2023 23:15
Dogs do love chocolate, and other things they are not allowed. My DIL works in a vet practice. She keeps a secret drawer with peanut butter cups, and when a dog comes in and has to be put down, she gives them the one treat they always wanted, as their last treat on earth.
postitpatty · 25/01/2023 23:18
If his name is currently'Solo' but you don't like it, what about Rolo? So it's similar enough for him to recognise still but then you can gradually add nicknames like Roly Poly Pudding! (Just me who calls their dog ridiculous nicknames?!)
Tummytroubles22 · 25/01/2023 23:26
He’s absolutely gorgeous. My labs once ate a full chocolate birthday cake. I didn’t have to worry about going to the emergency vet as I didn’t know until I went to find it from my hiding place and found the empty box. They appear to have stomachs of steel and can’t possibly enjoy anything they eat as it disappears so fast. Slow feed bowls are great if he’s a greedy guzzler.
aonbharr · 25/01/2023 23:29
Jaffa suits him, may I just say the old boy behind him is so content looking with this new arrival, what is his name?
kingsleysbootlicker · 25/01/2023 23:34
Solo is such a sad name for a rescue dog I'd call him Duo, now that he has a pal

My dog gets all sorts of names - dog, chops, dog chops, fluffy face, pooch, axel, aquel, puppa dog, puppa dog chops. The list goes on 😂
