AIBU?
Do you like my dog?
SierraZoe · 25/01/2023 22:18
I’ve recently got a rescue (in red collar) he’s really naughty and ate my Jaffa cakes when I wasn’t looking. Shall I call him Jaffa?

Am I being unreasonable?

Dogs do love chocolate, and other things they are not allowed. My DIL works in a vet practice. She keeps a secret drawer with peanut butter cups, and when a dog comes in and has to be put down, she gives them the one treat they always wanted, as their last treat on earth.
This has made me feel happy and sad all at once!
My pug ate the skirting board and loads of dvds, we had painted it about 2 weeks before. My malamute has eaten the rest of the house!

They are both lovely, but I am very fond of labs. You also got a great snap there which leads me to believe you had a treat in your hands? Lol.
The chewing and destruction of every piece of furniture, bills, shoes, and anything else within site is well worth their unfaltering love. It just means you'll be saving by not buying anything for a while. Every cloud.
Shergill15 · 25/01/2023 23:41
He's beautiful! As is Greybeard. Joska is a great name. My lab has eaten all sorts of rubbish (including actual rubbish) over the years and is still going strong at nearly 13 xx

@MadCattery that melted my heart. Our last dog was actually pts by a vet nurse. This is the first time we've experienced this. She was absolutely amazing, caring and compassionate to both us and our beloved dog. She gave him lots of treats, and had an IV line which meant she could administer the anaesthesia at the far end of the room whilst we cuddled our fig on the floor. The most important thing was that she gave us time. It wasn't rushed in any way.
Said I'd never get another one. Then got an 8 month old rescue who has eaten everything. You've got to laugh.
Whatisthegoss · 25/01/2023 23:46
Gorgeous.
I'm sure if you call him Jaffa the strange connotations are irrelevant.
It's a dog, it is a name.
I had a dog that chewed my bed base overnight.
Madness!
Runningoncoffeealone · 25/01/2023 23:47
He's beautiful, they both are!
I'd absolutely love a dog but I'm outrun by cats 😁
larkstar · 25/01/2023 23:50
One of my ginger cat’s was called Jaffa - so - great name imho.
caringcarer · 25/01/2023 23:51
Jaffa is a great name for him. He looks to have made himself at home. Every lab I have ever known has a slight greedy streak and is an opportunist thief for any food left about.
Carouselfish · 26/01/2023 00:06
Aw, not naughty on purpose op. Rescue dogs have lots of issues often, so need patience while you figure out what they all are. Just a bit stressed from new place and going to take a while to trust everything is going to be okay. Having your older dog should help him gradually relax. Now you know he is a food stealer, food goes up high! And a skirtingboard gnawer, white pepper on the skirting boards and lots of anti-abandonment training to build his confidence.

Um, where I come from Jaffa was nasty slang for an infertile man (cos of jaffa oranges having no seeds) so I wouldn't because of that. I thought it meant that everywhere, but maybe not.
When I lived in new Zealand for a few years the rest of NZ used the term Jaffa for " Just another fucking Aucklander "😂

Any dog like that are automatically called bouncer in my head.

I prefer the name Jaffa despite the slang meaning. I always think Jaffa cakes are somehow happy. Maybe that has something to do with the round interior, which somewhat resembles the sun.

How many did he eat?might need to ring the get if he ate a packet.
If he stole a couple an should be ok,hopefully.
He is gorgeous and seems at home with your other dog.
It's brilliant that you gave a rescue dog a home.🐾🐾🐕🌈🌻💐

Bloody loved Bouncer. He was a best boy!
LanternGhost · 26/01/2023 02:32
His name is Gus, surely? He can be called Gussy when needed (special voice good boy talk)

Yes this is what I thought!
Call him Mcvitie - Max for short!
What is the other doggy called?
KimberleyClark · 26/01/2023 05:42
He’s gorgeous. But aI doubt there is enough cocoa in Jaffa cakes to hav3 done him any harm.
Aprilx · 26/01/2023 05:50
Yes i like your dog. I don’t like the name Jaffa, it is an insult where I am from. Did he not already have a name? If so maybe you need to either stick with hat or choose something that sounds a bit like it.
Hellibore · 26/01/2023 08:02
Don't call him Jaffa! 🤣🤣🤣
How about:
Albie
Rufus
Leo
Bruno
Toby
Remy
Ziggy
Milo
Moose
Bear
