I’ve recently got a rescue (in red collar) he’s really naughty and ate my Jaffa cakes when I wasn’t looking. Shall I call him Jaffa?

Do you like my dog?

It's clear you love him already and I think Jaffa is a great name.

It does sound like he's a little stressed from being in a new place so give him a bit of grace with the skirting board thing. Dogs don't chew things to piss you off. Hope he didn't get shouted out!

No I would never shout at him. Rescue centre said he had been neglected and needed lots of reassurance so he’ll probably get away with everything! I did give him a dirty look but he just licked me

Love the name Jaffa. Never heard of the other meaning.

Um, where I come from Jaffa was nasty slang for an infertile man (cos of jaffa oranges having no seeds) so I wouldn't because of that. I thought it meant that everywhere, but maybe not.

Probably quite suitable then. I imagine he's had the snip.

Is that where it came from ? Never knew why we were calling the lads Jaffa's in the playground.

I believe Labradors have iron guts. I think it's only toys and miniatures who could be affected by a couple of Jaffa cakes.

This wasn’t supposed to be a thread about dogs and chocolate I’m sure the OP is aware that chocolate in large quantities can in some cases be toxic to dogs, however the amount of chocolate on some Jaffa cakes is hardly likely to cause problems even for a small dog!

If anyone is worried about their dog eating chocolate and wants an idea of how concerned they should be I recommend using the Vets now calculator.

Yes I think you’re right! I think he’s a Labrador cross with a Hungarian Vizzler, but I don’t know much about that breed

He wants to be called Biscuit.

Jaffa will have people unwillingly thinking about your dog's semen, which is rather unfortunate.

But doesn't he already have a name?

Yes his name was ‘solo’ but I don’t like it

Jeffrey, perhaps? Bertie requires my grandmother's accent to sound convincing. Unless you've got a voice like Frank Butcher, anyhow....

He's lovely. Hope you have a plan to deal with the food stealing and skirtingboard chewing. I'm not sure just 'letting him get away with everything' is in his best interests.

My old Labrador ate seven Easter eggs in one sitting (boxes and foil included) and it didn’t affect her. She also ate half a sack of chicken corn once too, and did pop up popcorn poops for a day. That dog had nine lives! Current lab ate a horse’s tablet out of it’s bucket, started burping green bubbles, then keeled over. Just as I was ringing the emergency vet he sat up, threw up, and then bounded off to play with our other dog!

Not saying that it’s fine for dogs to eat chocolate, it’s not, but it’s not always panic stations.

I quite like Jaffa as a name, despite it meaning slang for infertile.

I think Jeffrey is a good name, but how about Joska to reflect his Hungarian origin?

there were only two Jaffa cakes left so I think he’ll be fine. He gets very distressed if I put him in the car so I’ll just keep an eye on him

He'll defo be fine!
And regarding your question? No, I don't like him, I love him.
Long live Jaffa ♥️

Jaffa is a brilliant and unusual name! Never heard of the negative connection to the name ever. Ignore!
Solo isn't his name I agree. Glad he has a lovely new family and home 🙂
