I was just reading about Paris Hilton and obviously i don’t know the full story but it seems like she just used a surrogate because her friends do for convenience.

obviously if you have no choice I completely understand but if it’s just because pregnancy is hard I think it’s a bit wrong taking a newborn baby away from the only person they’ve known for 9 months

especially as pregnancy itself prepares you to care for a newborn and changes your brain for that purpose.

am I just being very judgmental

It is interesting, the number of people who are prepared to say that this is an excellent opportunity for a poor woman to make a bit of money. Same as prostitution. Why is is that whenever women are poor, there is a line of vultures ready to pick parts of her body apart for their use and pat themselves on the back for throwing a few quid at her?

RedToothBrush · 27/01/2023 10:09

It's baby trafficking and human exploitation.

We don't see the likes of Paris Hilton being a surrogate for a poor single woman who can't afford to pay surrogate fees and expenses do we?

I'm sitting on the fence. Don't think it's right for vulnerable women to do it for money
Personally I wish we were all like mr potato head and we could just swap bits about. Would happily give my womb/ovaries/tubes to someone who needed them. Saw my colleague struggle for 9 years through IVF and if I could have carried a child for her, I would and not for the money

I wanted children but couldn't afford to, and I'm 39 now so too old!

if I could have carried a child for her, I would

What stopped you?

Yes actually they are, because just like prostitution, when women’s biology is exploited it leads to trafficking and the abuse of women. There’s been ‘farms’ uncovered where women have been kidnapped and forced into surrogacy.
At least be informed about what you’re supporting.

Thats awful and obviously is a huge issue that needs addressing. But I’m fairly sure Paris Hilton isn’t doing that.

It doesn’t matter where you source your womb from, you're still creating demand for more surrogates. You are still part of the problem

This^
its normalising the use of womens bodies for money and normalising paying for infants .

Rebel2023 · 27/01/2023 12:20

@BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn she is adamant it was her carrying the child or nothing
She said she didn't just want a baby, she wanted to go through pregnancy as well and so she wouldn't consider any other options

An Advantage of carrying your own child is that your body then produces the best possible nutrients to feed them with and knitting the mother child bond.

Oh don’t even with that bollocks. Plenty of non-breastfed people have a great bond. Fathers can’t breastfeed, they still bond.

Boulezvous · 28/01/2023 08:59

Yes Dads do bond with babies - but not all surely? If there is an absent parent isn’t it much more commonly the father? I think you’re living in a dream world if you haven’t noticed that.

I believe there is nothing stronger than the bond a mother has with the child that grew within her body and is literally her flesh and blood. And the bond with a breast fed child is powerful. And I don’t think it’s a way out view to know that breast milk is the best nutrition for a newborn.

Anyway, I think surrogacy is gross. Lazy rich people buying women’s bodies and babies.
