Scone abomination

AinmÁlainn · 25/01/2023 11:44

I picked up a scone for myself, raisin, natch. Kept it for a cuppa after a long and difficult meeting. I made the perfect cup of tea and the butter gods smiled on the spreadablility of the ideal amount. I took a delicious bite. Only to find that it wasn't a raisin scone, it was chocolate chip and the scone itself was orange flavoured. What sort of monster has taken over my favourite bakery counter?

@Mummieslncorporated red velvet? In the name of all that's Holy, WHY???

mamabear715 · 25/01/2023 14:31

@TheDogsMother my youngest would agree with you. The rest of us, however, pronounce scone the PROPER way, as in sc (own) ;-)

UWhatNow · 25/01/2023 14:33

Chocolate chips in scones? Goodness gracious, modern woke life is bad enough but this really is too far now… Whatever next? Olives in the baked beans? Disgusting.

CalpolDependant · 25/01/2023 14:33

OP, where is this bakery? I was raised by my grandma who used to add all sorts of shitty things to her scones. They were barely edible and I hated them.

But, I’d give anything now to sit in her kitchen and eat one of her hideous blackberry and mint scones. I’d quite like to choke down one of these orange monstrosities. RIP, Nan. ✌️

UWhatNow · 25/01/2023 14:34

Reminds of that Catherine Tate sketch ‘chocolate chips in the scones?’
‘the DIRTY bastards’

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 25/01/2023 14:57

I don't understand this modern trend of having to muck about with things that were perfectly fine to start with. Nowadays there's;
bacon-flavoured toothpaste,
Terry's Marmite Chocolate Orange,
mint flavoured bread,
cinnamon flavoured whiskey
and virtually everything has a 'limited edition' version.
Now the humble scone has fallen into this downward spiral,
One can't blame Brexit on this occasion so it must be Social Media's fault.

It wasn't like this when I was growing up, we just had jam sandwiches and jelly (not together), orange squash and Madeira cake (not together) but we were happy - well reasonably so after rationing finished following a world war that devastated most of Europe and the Far East.

Not to rub it in, OP, but I've just had a lovely fruit scone, toasted, with butter and my hot chocolate. Mmmmmm 😋

Toasted?!?

Bonkersworknonsense · 25/01/2023 15:45

I haven’t rtwt, but I do think The Scone Abomination would be a great band name.

PuttingDownRoots · 25/01/2023 15:45

I blame Bake Off and the challenges to put your own twist on things. 🍰🍩

I'm so fed up with the judgemental pile-ons on here. This scone sounds delicious. Who picks raises over chocolate? Sickos and perverts, that's who.

😂

OP, I'd try the scone to be fair but I'm not sure what you'd put in it, just cream? Butter?

YES. Scone rhymes with bone.

CatNamedBob · 25/01/2023 15:41

Toasted?!?

Toasting a chocolate scone would be great: getting the chocolate chips all melty, so they’ll swirl into the clotted cream. Perfect. Add black cherry jam and it’s like a Black Forest Gateau Scone.

HoldingTheDoor · 25/01/2023 15:58

YABU for willing eating scones with raisins. They're almost as much of an abomination as cheese scones.

CleanBedding · 25/01/2023 16:01

Raisins? I sincerely hope you mean sultanas.

As for toasted scones - you dirty, dirty bastard.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 25/01/2023 16:13

What a Terryble experience, OP!

Blackberryjammin · 25/01/2023 16:24

🤢

I once tucked into a delicious cream tea at a relatives house. As I went to take a bite from the scone I thought it smells a bit odd, maybe the cream's gone off. As I bit into it I realised it was a cheese scone with jam and cream on!

Now that really has made me feel ill 🤢

Ha! I love biting through the slightly crisp toasted exterior to the warm succulence below, heightened by lashings of buttery goodness! I've even been known to add a slice of good cheese on top. So there!! 🌹

DaveyJonesLocker · 25/01/2023 16:25

I can't stand raisins. But I would still be disappointed to find it was actually chocolate orange.
Plain, for jam and cream.
Cheese for butter.

I'll allow the heathens their raisins but all other flavour scones should be illegal.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 25/01/2023 16:27

Raisins are grim, I’d have been delighted by chocolate orange although cheese scones are the food of kings

CoachBeard · 25/01/2023 16:28

I don’t normally like anything except cheese scones but Gails Bakery used to do a pecan maple scone that was heavenly. Sadly they don’t seem to have them any more. Probably swapped over to chocolate chip or something. 🤨

CleanBedding · 25/01/2023 16:35

@Newestname002 I mean, is it even possible to toast a scone? Wouldn't that be like trying to toast a piece of cake? Are you absolutely sure you're not talking about teacakes?

Please tell me you're talking about teacakes

Surely2023IsTheYearForMyRainbowBaby · 25/01/2023 16:38

Love chocolate love orange love the 2 combined. However that does not belong in a scone!! By biggest fury is all the new fandangled hot cross bun flavours. I do not want a Belgian chocolate one, nor a salted caramel one, nor a strawberries and cream one, and definitely not a rhubarb and custard flavoured one. I can conclude that flavoured one is bloody rank!! I just want a traditional bloody hot cross bun!!

kingsleysbootlicker · 25/01/2023 16:42

Toasted scones are 😍But only with proper butter
