Scone abomination

AinmÁlainn · 25/01/2023 11:44

I picked up a scone for myself, raisin, natch. Kept it for a cuppa after a long and difficult meeting. I made the perfect cup of tea and the butter gods smiled on the spreadablility of the ideal amount. I took a delicious bite. Only to find that it wasn't a raisin scone, it was chocolate chip and the scone itself was orange flavoured. What sort of monster has taken over my favourite bakery counter?

I'm with you - an orange/chocolate scone is an abomination. Scones should be plain or have rasins (or maybe cherries) in.

Don't even start me on the abomination that is a cheese scone.............

Fink · 25/01/2023 13:20

I want to sympathise, but can't be sure you're pronuncing scone correctly. I'd hate to waste scone compassion on a monster who gets the vowel sound wrong.

Awesome post darn right you are NOT unreasonable

takealettermsjones · 25/01/2023 13:23

LTB (leave the bakery)

IHeartGeneHunt · 25/01/2023 13:23

I'd quite like that but not if I wasn't expecting it. The nicest scone I ever had was cherry and orange.

I am just pointlessly adding that I had a cheese scone in a tea shop last week that came with butter, homemade chutney and TWO THICK SLICES OF CHEESE (cheddar and Red Leicester) [preen].

Oooh that there is last supper food

Cakecakecheese · 25/01/2023 13:24

Scone abomination: my new girlband.

Well I thought you were going to say that Butlers Pantry had gone rogue or HORROR that Avoca had introduced them.

Thank god it was just Dunnes.

But, Yabu for using the word 'natch' which I last saw in Just Seventeen magazine in 1993. 😉

I've never found a Butler's Panty scone that really fulfilled the brief. Avoca scone are delicious but too big. But I'm boycotting anyway because of the direct provision thing.

And didn't you hear the 1990s are the new 2020s? Natch is back, baby!

😂I must have missed the memo!

I am in the UK but used to live in Dublin and Avoca pear and Almond scones are my choice of last meal on death row, I didn't realise there was a controversy, I'll have a Google.

Hope you get a better scone soon OP.

Favouritefruits · 25/01/2023 13:50

I love a chocolate scone I put chocolate spread on instead of jam and butter, you can feel your arteries clogging up just looking at it, but it is delicious.

Pterrydactyl · 25/01/2023 13:51

A shop near me was selling mince pie scones before Christmas. They even had a dribble of icing on the top.

MagentaRocks · 25/01/2023 13:52

Dotjones · 25/01/2023 11:52

To be honest it sounds better than a raisin one, although any scone that's not a cheese scone is an abomination really.

This

Toddlerteaplease · 25/01/2023 13:52

I'm also a butter only person! Jam and cream spoils it!

VickyEadieofThigh · 25/01/2023 13:53

The ONLY scones worthy of that name have dried fruit (for me, have to be raisins or sultanas) in them.

ANYTHING else - ABOMINATION.

FairyLightAddict · 25/01/2023 13:56

My thoughts are with you at this stressful time.

maddiemookins16mum · 25/01/2023 13:56

Sending hugs.

TheChosenTwo · 25/01/2023 13:56

Sounds like it would have been much nicer than a scone with raisins in it 😂 i hate any kind of dried fruit though. Plus if I’m eating a scone it’s one I’ve made at home and they’re plain and never a disappointment (I do have cream/jam or cream/lemon curd on them, I don’t eat them totally plain!!).

Newestname002 · 25/01/2023 11:56

Not to rub it in, OP, but I've just had a lovely fruit scone, toasted, with butter and my hot chocolate. Mmmmmm 😋

You toast your scones?????

Mummieslncorporated · 25/01/2023 14:10

That does sound really odd.

Today when I was in Tesco I saw they were selling...

....

wait for it...

Red velvet hot cross buns.

I mean WHY?

Ineedwinenow · 25/01/2023 14:11

I feel so sorry for you! If a bloke had done something heinous like this I would say LTB but I’m unsure what the fruity scone version is! LTP ( leave the place) but as it was a takeaway order, i would definitely never set foot in the place again and leave a negative review Grin anyway my thoughts and prayers are with you in this difficult time, we are all here if you want support or just a rant Grin

HiccupHorrendousHaddock · 25/01/2023 14:13

Thoughts and prayers in your time of need, OP.

Mildmanneredmum · 25/01/2023 14:15

Giggling at "Butler's Panty"

RaiseTheStakesAndMakeTheLastWordDuckhead · 25/01/2023 14:15

Raisins are the devil's shit pellets.

Where do I get this amazing sounding scone please?

Mummieslncorporated · 25/01/2023 14:18

There really are some highly disturbed people in this world. This thread is highlighting that.

Op, think carefully before you disclose the purveryor of the aforementioned offensive item. Do you really want to be responsible for more of them being created? Could you live with that on your conscience?

TheDogsMother · 25/01/2023 14:27

My sympathies OP, sounds awful Flowers

Though whilst we're on the general subject of scones I trust we are all pronouncing it 'Sconn'. <runs for the hills>
