To feel utterly green with jealousy when I see Mums at the gates for Pre-school looking gorgeous

I work at a Prep school and DD is 14m. Every morning I see two Women (friends) looking immaculate in their teeny velour tracksuits, great hair, manicured nails, 10m olds perched on a slim hipbone kissing their 3 y olds goodbye. They are like the supercool Moms and all the the other Mums kind of hover around them.
I used to be a very attractive young Woman, when I see them I feel like "how the buggery can you look so good with 2 kids I can't find time to put a comb through my hair". Maybe I need some treatments...

This is a silly thread I know.
I will go now.

come to Somerset

You will instantly be the most attractive woman around, purely by virtue of having your own hair and teeth.

It does wonders for your self-esteem.

nailpolish · 06/02/2008 10:13

they are kind of women who get up extra early to put their make up on before they husband wakes up. they probably air kiss their husband so th ey dont mess their lippy

they are probably so grumpy all the time, incase the wind moves a strand of their hair. they are probably no fun at all

TotalChaos · 06/02/2008 10:13

/bitchy - but velour tracksuits are hardly the epitome of style, grounds straightaway not to feel too unstylish by comparison

Oliveoil · 06/02/2008 10:14

get up earlier? then you will have time to look presentable

tbh some days I can be arsed and others I can't

it is not a fashion show or competition, don't be so hard on yourself

OrmIrian · 06/02/2008 10:14

mp!

What an outrageous thing to say!

harpsichordcarrier · 06/02/2008 10:15

lol at mp.
these women are not typical CWE (great name btw).
is there something is particular about your appearance that you would like to change?
i would say that working on one thing is the best way.
and having a routine in the morning that you stick to like glue
and sticking the children in front of the tv in the morning so you can do your hair

Funnily enough, I'm coming from the other side of the fence - I am that hated figure, the immaculately dressed SAHM!!. Certainly not tracksuits though, rather the sort of clothes I suspect most people would wear out to a smart restaurant for lunch.

I just can't help it, I LOVE clothes and fashion and have done so my whole life. When I first gave up work, I tried to dress like all the other mum's in jeans and boots but it made me miserable. Wearing a gorgeous dress just puts a spring in my step (sad I know!).

I do get very embarrassed particularly as so many mothers I don't even know come up and comment to me on it and I'm in doubt that one or two really really resent me for it. Perhaps I should start a support group for those of us addicted to dressing up.

Buda · 06/02/2008 10:16

LOL MP! Am even more pleased we are planning on moving to Somerset!

CrushwithEyeliner - I know just how you feel!

twelveyeargap · 06/02/2008 10:16

Slim figure I would be envious of. Velour tracksuit; definitely not.

OK I would say that I am overweight but can't find the energy or time or inclination to diet or exercise.
but I do make the time to do my hair in the morning.
as luck would have it, my children get up ludicrously early anyway

CrushWithEyeliner · 06/02/2008 10:17

at Somerset

I have seen their Husbands too and they are also really dishy obviously..
Hey ho - hmmm get up earlier than 5.30 when DD pokes me in the eye with MakkaPakka? I think that may make things worse lol
How the blazes do they manage to look so groomed, I want the secret!

Are you buda! Coming to join the yokels?

I am much taller and quite a bit slimmer than most of the mums in our school playground - but we do have some very very big women.

sleepdeprivationandme · 06/02/2008 10:18

I bet they all have breath like a bull.

Oliveoil · 06/02/2008 10:19

takes me 10 mins to get ready for the school run

upstairs, dress, teeth, muss up hair (as it is now short and not long as it used to be so I can't tie it back), Touch Eclat, powder, blusher, mascara

out

I NEVER have manicured hands

CrushWithEyeliner · 06/02/2008 10:19

oh and I know what you mean re. velour tracksuits but on a tiny bum pert boobs and slim waist believe me they look cute

OP posts:
Oliveoil · 06/02/2008 10:20

are you sure they are not the nannies?

maybe the wives are at home eating pies with fluffy slipper on

georgedontdothat · 06/02/2008 10:21

My sister is like this and honestly most of the time she is no fun. Too interested in getting the perfect everything rather than having a good relationship with everyone.

I mean her little boy has all the designer clothes he could want but he is not allowed to paint or draw at his house and if he does at mine we have to strip him off

Honestly just be happy been who you are

the best thing I ever did was to get a really low maintenance hair cut

jasper · 06/02/2008 10:22

The Russian mums are particularly striking

morningpaper · 06/02/2008 10:22

Olive: at eating pies with slippers

Buda: Where are you moving to?

Oliveoil · 06/02/2008 10:23

I am 'blessed' with curly/wavy/whatever hair
