apart from the fact that jodie whittaker is arguably The.Best.Docter.Ever. we will most likely not see a female dr in the next 20 years. if ever.

Love Dr Who but just couldn't take to Jodie. I also thought the companions were very weak. I can't even remember their names.

I'd like to see Joanna Scanlan taking on the Cybermen or the Master. She'd stand none of their nonsense.

Harriet Walter would be good but at 72 probably not up to the demands of the role.

Not feeling Joanna Scanlan at all tbh, but agree that Harriet Walter would be amazing! I saw her in Macbeth when I was a teenager - she absolutely blew me away.

I totally missed out on Jodie Whittaker and Peter Capaldi, I made it about halfway through Matt Smith’s run but found the writing to be awful. Keeping my fingers crossed that the change of writer can draw me back in. I might go back and watch what I’ve missed if I can deal with the cringey writing. (Not a fan of Steven Moffat at all, despite him writing very good standalone episodes).

I think that now the Doctor has been a woman it will either be less of a deal to do it again or they’ll get all “well you already HAD a woman Doctor”. Too soon to tell.

RaininSummer · 23/01/2023 17:50

I stopped watching it after a couple of the Jodie episodes. Mix of her and the storylines. Have watched all my life up til then.

theycallmejane · 23/01/2023 17:55

I didn't enjoy her as The Doctor - I don't think she had great writing to work with.

I liked watching the series with Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant. I didn't enjoy all of Peter Capaldi's episodes - but like with Jodie Whittaker, it was the writing I thought was lacklustre, not the acting.

why do you think it shouldn't be a woman playing the dr?

TildaRae · 23/01/2023 18:01

I’m probably in the minority here but my favourite series and pairing was David Tennant and Freema Agyeman. Loved the Dr and Martha episodes.

GracePooleslaugh · 23/01/2023 18:15

Anyone else love Peter Capaldi? I fell in love watching The Thick of it

StrawberryWater · 23/01/2023 18:19

I just want better writing and plots and for them to stop rewriting the history of the show. Certainly bring the show up to date but don’t tinker with the lore.

Im sure there will be another woman Dr. I just hope she’s a better actress than JD (but NOT Gillian bloody Anderson! She’d be good as The Rani but not as the main character. I couldn’t bare a whispering Dr who spends all her time staring into middle distance). I like JD but she’s really not a good actress.

I didn't like her personally. Her personality wasn't very inkeeping. Too jolly.

Doctor Donna is the Queen. I wish we could have kept her for longer before it started killing her. Hopefully we get to see plenty of her soon.

I'm looking forward to the new doctor and there is zero reason we won't have another female.

The doctor is a timelord and gender is fluid for them.

Nah, it was really sad how Martha pined over him. She was a beautiful, kick-ass doctor and still spent all her time following the Doctor around with sad puppy eyes.

The Doctor and Donna? Now, that was great. They were genuinely just mates, and the dynamic was brilliant. Plus, Wilf. Loved Wilf. RIP Bernard Cribbins.

ladymalfoy45 · 23/01/2023 18:35

I parted company after 'Rosa'. A white alien helped a lynchpin of the Civil Rights movement to 'stay on the bus'?
However CC did admit he doesn't think any of his stories will be 'canon'.
So he got something right.

PayMoreAttention · 23/01/2023 18:57

She's an awful, boring 'actress'

I can't wait for Doctor Who to be back

I get the BBC are woke and love pandering to the idiots but they could have at least picked someone who knows how to act

The Doctor is a space alien.

Sorry, but Freema Agyeman was a serious downgrade as an actor compared to companions such as Billie Piper or Pearl Mackie.

MermaidEyes · 24/01/2023 09:09

Martha was a wishy washy companion. I agree that she spent too much time mooning over the doctor. Rose was good, Donna was awesome. Loved Amy and Rory and their 'threesome' dynamic. Clara was good to start with but then it became too much the Clara show. Honestly have no idea of the companions names after that. Jodie is an ok actress but there are plenty better and she really didn't do the first woman Doctor justice in my opinion.

JW is a fantastic actress but I hated the storylines they gave her, they were awful!

This this this!!!

I cannot watch JW as Dr Who at all, I love Dr Who, bit seriously she was terrible

Loved Tennant

SD1978 · 24/01/2023 09:15

Didn't like the character, agree regarding the bounding Labrador comment. Didn't feel that she had much depth, was all surface inanity. Also felt the story lines were quite poor at times.

Helendee · 24/01/2023 09:26

Personally I don’t care about the sex, age, sexuality or gender of the Dr, I just want the best one.

Helendee · 24/01/2023 09:27

Or ethnicity I meant.

FuckabethFuckor · 24/01/2023 09:27

I really like Jodie Whittaker as an actor but I couldn't warm to her in Doctor Who. I don't know what it was; some of the dialogue was quite good but the whole 'feel' was just off somehow. It had a tendency to come over as patronising.

I also felt they killed off the best potential companion/supporting character in the very first episode (Grace).

I noped out after Rosa — white woman saviour syndrome — and tuned back in for the recent specials, just so I'm up to date for when it jumps back to Tennant and then on to Gatwa.

I think there's no reason why it'll be another 20 years before another woman plays the Doctor. It's been done now, so it'll be easier to do next time without getting so many jaw-jutting neckbeards in a tizzy.

I'd like to see more women involved in the production; writing, directing, showrunning. The Rachel Talalay episodes have all been brilliantly done from a directorial standpoint.

CousinKrispy · 24/01/2023 09:46

Ooh I'd love to see Joanna Scanlon!
