Worried about war

TarasHarp55 · 22/01/2023 18:24

I'm so frightened right now. Do we all think we're heading into WW3. If we send tanks it escalates, if we don't it would spread anyway. Can anyone calm me in anyway. I'm really scared. Help....please.

The established Ukraine thread doesn't ever reassure me.

Seek therapy

Or educate yourself

either one

FourTeaFallOut · 22/01/2023 19:12

TarasHarp55 · 22/01/2023 19:08

Well I always have on previous threads.

Then why post again? If it was effective you wouldn't be back ruminating over apocalyptic disasters

mbosnz · 22/01/2023 19:14

I suffer terribly from anxiety. Particularly after having gone through deadly natural disasters, one of which killed my friend.

Can I suggest that educating yourself is very useful. The differences between the kinds of nuclear weapons, the theories of what you use where, and when - and why you don't?

If you have children, I'm afraid you cannot be a bit player in Chicken Licken.

gamerchick · 22/01/2023 19:14

OP repeated reassurance doesn't help anxiety, that's why you keep coming back to the same thing. You're going to have to take steps to help yourself. Stop reading about it, don't read any threads, just hide them. Don't watch the news or anything else and give the whole thing a swerve.

It's a waste of energy to worry about nuclear war. You simply can't control that sort of stuff.

TarasHarp55 · 22/01/2023 19:15

XenoBitch · 22/01/2023 19:10

If your anxiety is irrational, then seeking reassurance is unhelpful to you. If anything, it is enabling.

I don't think my anxiety is irrational.

My worry is if it turns nuclear.

Are you living somewhere likely to be targeted if it goes nuclear?

@TarasHarp55, your anxiety over this IS irrational.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 22/01/2023 19:17

What are you hoping for from this thread?

mbosnz · 22/01/2023 19:17

What are you wanting OP? To foment fear? To be told, 'there, there, dear, it's alright'?

TarasHarp55 · 22/01/2023 19:18

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 22/01/2023 19:15

Are you living somewhere likely to be targeted if it goes nuclear?

Probably not, which is probably worse. I'd rather go straight away.

No it's the media that creates fear. Just wanted some reassurance.

I don't think my anxiety is irrational.

I have diagnosed GAD and OCD. OP, it is very much irrational. That is what anxiety disorders are, it’s irrational thinking.

I’m not minimising your experience and feelings. It is a scary time right now. Terrifying. BUT, there is nothing you can do about this.

War is out of your control.

Turn off the news. Don’t read propaganda red top newspapers.

Have you got any?

XenoBitch · 22/01/2023 18:50

There is a fantastic and level headed thread in Chat about Ukraine that is about 37 threads deep now... it had been going on that long.
When you post a written panic attack in AIBU, you set other people off. That is not fair. It has a domino effect, and then we see multiple threads about being nuked to dust, in one day.

I posted an articleon that thread earlier which covers the recent Swedish military briefing. They warned us about this. They said to expect a massive increase in attempts to stir up fear in the population around nuclear attacks. And here we are ...

Fladdermus · 22/01/2023 19:22

TarasHarp55 · 22/01/2023 19:18

Probably not, which is probably worse. I'd rather go straight away.

Well then what are you worrying about? If the worst happens you'll be fine. Stay indoors for a couple of days if you're down wind of it and then crack on with your life.

mbosnz · 22/01/2023 19:22

Well, the media is one medium that can foment fear. Of course, so can bots, or individuals. . .

I’m sorry but this sort of thread is helpful in absolutely no way. The chances of this ‘going nuclear’ any time soon are slim to non existent. Either you’re a Russian troll trying to sow fear to reduce support for the West in sending much needed weaponry or you’re totally irrational.

LottoLaura · 22/01/2023 19:23

TarasHarp55 · 22/01/2023 19:15

I don't think my anxiety is irrational.

Then you definitely need help

Dymaxion · 22/01/2023 19:24

which media are you watching and listening to ? I watch the news every day ( BBC, SKY, Al jazeera ) and listen to R4 and Worldservice during the day and I haven't picked up on 'its going to turn nuclear' vibe ?

BurtonsRevenge · 22/01/2023 19:25

IT'S WAR! ... but first the weather

Hobnobswantshernameback · 22/01/2023 19:25

Imagine working for the Russian secret service and being tasked with winding up Mumsnet.
you'd be gutted 😂

Or you’ve seriously fucked up in your last post 😂

Fladdermus · 22/01/2023 19:28

TarasHarp55 · 22/01/2023 19:09

Well how very reassuring.

However it's not true. How do you think Ukraine are knocking out Russian missiles?

SammyScrounge · 22/01/2023 19:34

Cuba was a closer call than this and we got through it because neither side wanted a nuclear war. It's too destructive to both sides. There is a great deal of brinkmanship going on today as there was then.
