Worried about war

I'm so frightened right now. Do we all think we're heading into WW3. If we send tanks it escalates, if we don't it would spread anyway. Can anyone calm me in anyway. I'm really scared. Help....please.

Well then what are you worrying about? If the worst happens you'll be fine. Stay indoors for a couple of days if you're down wind of it and then crack on with your life.

That wouldn't happen. Everything fine in a couple of days? Hardly

The established Ukraine thread doesn't ever reassure me.

It should do. They talk a lot of sense there, there are several military and ex-military posters whose calm, factual knowledge and understanding has reassured me.

mbosnz · 22/01/2023 19:37

So, have you made any plans, for in the event of nuclear war? Got a bunker, that sort of thing? Or just all of a twitter, and hoping everybody else will solve your worries for you?

DaSilvaP · 22/01/2023 19:39

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 22/01/2023 19:15

Are you living somewhere likely to be targeted if it goes nuclear?

If it comes to that where you live will make little difference - after few days or weeks radioactivity will be everywhere.

Yes that is what will happen. People down wind of a detonation may be exposed to fallout and will have to take cover for 2 days to 14 days depending on fallout patterns. How do I know this, my DH told me. How does he know this, because he's a nuclear scientist, as anyone who frequents the regular Ukraine threads will know.

After a few days or weeks the dangerous radioactivity will be none existent. There will be an increase in background radiation but this isn't harmful and will be lower than occurs naturally in areas like Cornwall.

Dymaxion · 22/01/2023 19:42

@BringBackCoffeeCreams how far down wind and what happens if the wind direction changes ?

Grapewrath · 22/01/2023 19:42

Op you clearly have anxiety. Posting threads on here won’t help you, even if people indulge them,? you will be temporarily reassured and will no doubt return with another worry.
You need to see your GP and stop trying to induce anxiety in people on here

DontLikeMenthols · 22/01/2023 19:43

TarasHarp55 · 22/01/2023 19:19

No it's the media that creates fear. Just wanted some reassurance.

It’s not the responsibility for anyone on the internet - or anywhere for that matter - to reassure you. People have already posted reasonable responses and you’re not interested in any of them.

I have generalised anxiety disorder but I also know it’s for me to manage and not others. If you have anxiety about this particular matter then you need to find healthy ways of coping with it - coming onto online forums and putting the onus on others to help you isn’t fair.

I don't think your Amazon Prime driver will want to be delivering during this. It is not so much the nuclear fallout that is damaging.. it is the fallout from society collapsing.

Dymaxion · 22/01/2023 19:45

Also at @BringBackCoffeeCreams how long does DH think it would be before Mumsnet was back online because I don't want to miss any threads about DH/MIL responding to a nuclear attack in a selfish or passive aggressive way ?

lovem · 22/01/2023 19:48

You can't do anything about it except deal with your own anxiety right now and try to live happily.

Get help OP: meds and stop watching news.

GlassBunion · 22/01/2023 19:52

You really wouldn't have coped with the government'a pamphlets or the Pubic Information Films of the 70s then.

You are catastrophising and maybe a trip to the GP would result in a calmer you.

Rec0veringAcademic · 22/01/2023 19:52

Listen, both sides of this war are into talking big and exaggerating the heck of any situation. It's cultural. I live in a very near-by country. I know rhetoric is powerful.

Honestly...? They'll wear each other out in 3 years. Millions will die. That was the way the Bosnian war went. Deplorable and tragic. If I were you I'd channel my mental energy into supporting Ukrainian refugees already in the UK.

GlassBunion · 22/01/2023 19:53

Oh, and I think I remember an incredibly similar post from not so long ago.

I wouldn't want to freak you out, but compared to what's available today (enough to fuck up the whole globe several times over) the two nukes exploded over Japan at the end of WW II are just firecrackers.

I just askef him for you and I'm afraid that's a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string' question. But as a bit of guide if you're within a couple of hours drive of the detonation seek shelter whichever way it's blowing and if you're further away than that, you'll be fine.

I am not sure I could cope with a PUBIC information film either 😂😂

Well that's the real disaster. It could be out for around 50 years.

And the explosion of Krakoa was bigger than all the nukes in the world put together and sent us into nuclear winter for a hundred years and yet we're all still here.

Actually you're very wrong. You won't believe how very reassuring some posts are. What makes you think I'm not interested in them? It helps massively.

I know I've made similar threads before and I've always been reassured and gone away feeling so much better.

For me it's what works, family members are useless. I don't see how it's a big deal putting the onus on people on here, that's what we do don't we? The majority of threads are about putting the onus on others for help, advice and reassurance. Mines no different.

If it “turns nuclear” you will be the first to know and you really will not care as you’ll be dead!

zfind something else to worry about.

Yep, as they say on the inbetweeners you would just be a scorched shadow on the pavement. Dust 😊
