I am scared of being nuked

Just as Putin went a bit quiet and the UK, USA, France and a few ex-eastern block countries started ramping up the rehtrotic, sabre rattling of more weapons. We no find ourselves IE the UK and the others bullying the germans into sending a few tanks that will not make a big difference or any difference but is seen as a red line by Putin.

Don't forget that Ukraine is claimed to have more tanks and armoured personnel carriers that the start of the war as they claim to have captured hundreds of abandoned tanks. So why do they need more, they actually don't. Giving these German taksn you need to train them, the parts will be difficult, repairs will be difficult the ammunition will be difficult, so why take the risk?

Ukriane had a pro-eastern leader before the current one. When Ukraine had their elections, American senetors were canvassing for the current pro-western man. Imagine a vote on Scotland's independence and we had Russians canvasing there

In the east of the Ukraine,, they were as bad as the others before the invasion by Putin.

The possibility of the UK being tested out with a nuke off our cost on on an isolated part on the UK is real and present becuse of the stance we are taking and we and others are giving her what it needs to defend themselves but to push them into the Crimea is a step to far at the risk of nuclear war

AIBU to think that sending a few tanks will tip Putin over the edge as I'm worried a lot.

People are right to say that the risks of being nuked probably aren't high, and are certainly a lot lower than the daily risks facing people in Ukraine. But I do think there's a strangly dismissive attitude to it - so many people in this thread saying "don't worry, if it happens it'll be swift" I assume you know absolutely nothing about nuclear bombs or what they do?The numbers dying in the explosion would be limited to those in the immediate vicinity. Many more would die or be sick from radioactivity - but there's a lot you can do to prevent this (get indoors within 15 minutes, stay indoors for a week). And the vast majority of the UK population would survive a single bomb (or even several). Not the entire world's arsenal, no, but why would they be the only possible scenario? It seems infinity less likely to me than the possibility of a single bomb or possibly two way tit for tat response.

The idea that "well obviously if it happens that'll be the end of the world so no point thinking about it" is just used to avoid thinking about something that's difficult. If the worry is taking over your life op then seek help. But you might find it useful to do a bit of research online about what would happen if a single nuclear bomb exploded somewhere within 100 miles of you (but not on your head) and have a plan for what you'd do. Then try to set the worry aside, just as you do about other risks.

there were many Russian speaking people in the east that felt they were not treated well

That is not true. It is a false Russian propaganda talking point.

The only language that has ever been discriminated against in Ukraine is Ukrainian.

What evidence do you have? That right none as its not just Ukraine, lets talk closer to home Northen Irelend, it happens, accept it and dont fall for one-sided bS as aLL politicians lie and if you dont know that just look at the hisotr of recent PM and his ministers that propped him up.

Zelensky is a native Russian speaker FFS. His whole acting/comedy career - everything he produced was in Russian.

Russian was seen as the language of intellectuals and the elite; Ukrainian as the language of peasants and country bumpkins.

Since 2014, there have been some efforts to redress the balance between the two languages, ensuring that Ukrainian speakers have access to public services in their native language. This is very similar to efforts to preserve the Welsh language in Wales. You wouldn’t say that this means English speakers are discriminated against - so why do you think it constitutes discrimination against Russians?

You are also making the mistaken assumption that speaking Russian means someone is pro-Russian. There are millions of patriotic Ukrainians who speak Russian as their first language, including Zelensky and his wife. It has never been an issue.

Thank you, good post
My mistake, it should have been people that allied with Russia as millions are just like Northen Irlend etc where many speaking the same language are allied with Ireland.

Your posts deteriorated into a meaningless stream of consciousness very quickly.

As soon as you are confronted with actual facts, you resort to ‘everyone lies so we can’t know what is true.’ That is a classic Russian propaganda tactic.

I won’t waste my time on you any more. You’re clearly just here to spread your pro-Russian talking points.

Greenshake · 22/01/2023 11:35

@FamousPrincess the more you post, the less convincing you are.

Lydiala · 22/01/2023 11:35

Eh? Language is not, and has never been the issue in Northern Ireland.

Republicans, Unionists and people in the Republic of Ireland alike all speak English… Efforts to revive the Irish language both sides of the border have sadly been far less successful than in Wales.

Putin is a politician and ALL politicians lie and lie and lie. If you think only Putin is lying, wake up, just look at the great record of Borish Johnson and his ministers.

Ukriane had a sectarian war going on since 2014 in the east, rightly or wrongly the majority there in that part felt they were being mistrated. Now don't take my word for it as I dont know what is true or not but look closer to home. EG Northen Ireland, what are the problems about and if they have access to tanks, planes and missiles would the trouble makers on both sides not use them for their own political gains?

I said this before here, I am sure that if world leaders, in Putin, Johnson the joke/Truss/Biden/French guy./Bidend etc were told " Ok lets stop this war and all wars, you lot Putin/Jonson/etc go to a park, take weapons and sort it out and come back. Trust me, not one shot would be fired.

Poltics is just that and sadly many fall for it and at times millions of innocent people on all sides die, suffer lose everything etc just to make world leaders look strong/good for their own needs.

If our idiots in gov dont know that Putin is deragned then they too need their head testing and a way to stop this war now is to tell Putin/Urkrianes leader and that of those leaders supply most arms to got and have a fight in the park and come back when they have decided fighting is not the way forward

OP posts:
Lydiala · 22/01/2023 11:41

And no, speaking Russian does not mean that someone is ‘allied with Russia’ - the war has been fought predominantly in majority Russian speaking regions. The response of the people there to the occupiers has demonstrated that they are not ‘allied with Russia.’

Did you not see the joyous scenes as Kharkiv oblast and the city of Kherson were liberated from Russian occupation? The people there would almost all be native Russian speakers. They still didn’t want to be Russian - they have experienced life in a democracy, and have no desire to live under Russian oppression. Particularly now that they’ve watched Russia destroy so many majority Russian speaking cities, just like Mariupol.

Greenshake · 22/01/2023 11:43

OP, please stop with this ludicrous ‘have a fight in the park’ line.

Never said it was and more the reason to beleive that those living in east Ukraine and the fighting there since 2014 had their reasons just like NI
Get it!

The post was aimed at theose that feel the fighting is over nothing and the miniorty were all feeling great - just to show them closer to home that people living in one country and you gave exmaples, those that shout the loudest via their politics brainwashing get heard and all others lose out

You can’t even spell Ukraine correctly in more than half your posts so forgive me if I don’t view you as a regional expert.

And no, that wasn’t an internal Ukrainian war. It was the start of Russia’s war against Ukraine. The tensions were drummed up by Russia and their military was on the ground fighting the Ukrainian forces:

Northern Irish Catholics were being mistreated. They didn’t have equal access to housing, employment, services etc. They didn’t even have the a fair right to vote, as gerrymandered districts and unfair franchise rules ensured that Protestant unionists would win every election, even in majority Catholic areas.

None of that is true in Ukraine. Russian speakers have never been discriminated against, only Ukrainian speakers, as I explained above. As someone who clearly knows far more than you about both Ukraine and Northern Ireland, I can assure you of this.

dreamingbohemian · 22/01/2023 11:55

Now don't take my word for it as I dont know what is true or not

This is the only correct thing you've said all day

Honestly OP, educate yourself a bit more and then you won't be so scared

dreamingbohemian · 22/01/2023 12:00

Peter Hitchens is one of those useful idiots who defends Assad, saying all the evidence that Assad used chemical weapons against civilians is faked.

So not really a shocker he's parroting Putin's talking points.

The DM are scum

I’m with you there, I won’t have to wake up another day and face the shit show my life is!

We were more at risk during the Cuban crisis and when the wall was up.
I'd be annoyed if they chucked a bomb on us when I'd just finished the housework though.

berksandbeyond · 22/01/2023 13:29

Worrying about it isn’t going to change it.
are you feeling okay OP? I suffer from anxiety too

KettrickenSmiled · 22/01/2023 14:07

Imagine a vote on Scotland's independence and we had Russians canvasing there

You don't need to imagine it, it will already be happening - just like it did with the Brexit vote. Russia is going to do what Russia is going to do. The UK sending or not sending tanks won't make any difference to Russia's overall strategy.

KettrickenSmiled · 22/01/2023 14:15

dont fall for one-sided bS says the OP who takes her world news from peter Hitchens ...

OP, anxiety is a horrible thing to have to manage even in the best of times.
If you stop reading agitprop shit in the Daily Mail, you might find it helps reduce your stress levels.

stbrandonsboat · 22/01/2023 14:23

Putin's on his way out anyway. I saw a recent picture of him the other day and he looked shocking. Like a mummified old bloater.

Nobody is going to give their life for a terminally ill despot who's only still here due to concoctions of ever stronger medication.

Ukraine will get their country back, Russia is over and we'll be back to rolling out eyes over our corrupt politicians.

I’m not sure they will get their country back. Neither side will back down. Yeah, Putin could die, but he could be replaced by someone even worse!

Never. However, you get my point now, many will disagree re NI comments by you and possibly just as many will agree. So apply the same criteria to your post instead of contradicting it.

As I said before its not just Ukraine, NI, if some of the Wlesh nationalist and the Scot ones had their way, they'd soon be on their way and then you have Cornwall.

Ohter problem areas,, Syria

And many other places one would be stupid to beleive everything your gov tells you and yes, they do lie.
