The mercy seat, Johnny Cash version. I was sitting on the tube once listening to this in my headphones and I had to turn it off so I didn't start blubbing on the tube.

Bit unusual here- but Rainforest by Paul Hardcastle. It’s an electronic pop song, no lyrics.
Heard it recently for the first time in years and it took me back.

Real Death by Mount Eerie has me in pieces every time:

m.youtube.com/watch?v=-1UyUsz0A-A

”Death is real
Someone's there and then they're not
And it's not for singing about
It's not for making into art
When real death enters the house, all poetry is dumb
When I walk into the room where you were
And look into the emptiness instead
All fails
My knees fail
My brain fails
Words fail
Crusted with tears, catatonic and raw
I go downstairs and outside and you still get mail
A week after you died a package with your name on it came
And inside was a gift for our daughter you had ordered in secret
And collapsed there on the front steps I wailed
A backpack for when she goes to school a couple years from now
You were thinking ahead to a future you must have known

Deep down would not include you
Though you clawed at the cliff you were sliding down
Being swallowed into a silence that's bottomless and real
It's dumb
And I don't want to learn anything from this
I love you”

crazycanuck · 28/02/2023 21:09

Fiddler’s Green by the Tragically Hip. It’s about the lead singer’s nephew who died very young. At concerts he (Gord Downie, may he Rest In Peace) would dedicate it to his sister whenever they played it.

Time to Say Goodbye - Sarah Brightman & Andrea Bocelli

It's Your World Now - The Eagles (played at my dad's funeral)

The song at the end of Philidelphia, is it by Neil Young? When they show all the home videos of the kids

lookslikeitsgoingtosnow · 28/02/2023 21:39

Also Moving On by James, the video is just heartbreaking. The lines in the song that get me the most are "Never said I love you, hope you knew", "When this cycle ends, Will it start again? Will we recognise old friends?" "Walking down this road, When my pulse beats slow, Hope to have you close at hand"

"There you'll be" by Faith Hill from Pearl Harbour. Was popular when my Mum died. So many of the words break my heart -

" I'll be glad 'cause I was blessed to get to have you in my life
When I look back on these days
I look and see your face
You were right there for me"

"In my heart, there'll always be a place for you for all my life
I'll keep a part of you with me
And everywhere I am, there you'll be"

Oh God, I'm off again ........
