To think the Rishi seatbelt nonsense is just tedious?

Not a Tory voter, never have been.

But seriously all this over the fact he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt? Anyone would think he’d been exposed as a sex offender or a user of Class A drugs 🙄

Hardly ‘getting away with doing what you want’ if you get fined for unbuckling a seatbelt for a minute is it?

Oh stop being such a brown noser 😂 it’s attitudes like yours that breed this sense of entitlement and superiority.

PerkingFaintly · 20/01/2023 22:58

He wasn't papped. He was filming a social media message showing him without a belt in a moving car. So the message he actually sent was that it's OK not to wear a belt.

See it here:
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-64353054

Because of that, I think it's quite right the offence and fine have been publicised.

I don't feel there's any need to go on about it further, but it is good that his bad visual message was immediately countermanded.

Brown noser? If it was Keir Starmer this would all be dubbed a ‘whipped up frenzy by the right wing media’

Second offence (lockdown party being the other) tells you what he thinks of the law and whether they apply to him and his colleagues.

"Like most victims, Julie knew her killer. It was her son, who was not wearing his seatbelt. After crushing her to death, he sat back down"

I remember that one like it was yesterday.

anyway yes he should wear seatbelt but I don’t get why the zahawi tax dodging is not getting the same attention

Quite! Why isn’t anything being said about his dodgy tax returns??

Nope. If anyone deliberately takes off their belt to film an Instagram post in a moving vehicle they deserve everything they get, no matter who they are.

LozzaChops101 · 20/01/2023 23:01

I don’t care half as much that he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt as I do that he’s bloody dim enough to do it on camera. Shows some really shite judgement.

JudgeRinderonTinder · 20/01/2023 23:03

The tories could literally kill children live on tv and you’d have people defending it. It is quite unbelievable. It might only be a minor offence, but it’s the underlying arrogance that’s the annoying thing, and it’s not the first time that has been apparent.

Yes its it's appalling lack of judgment and complete contempt for the law that's the issue.

I think what is news is that he is such a dickhead that he posted a video of himself breaking the law. How thick is that? And the others in the car must be thick too - and they are presumably his advisors Confused

It is a story because it shows a very high level of idiocy IMO.

Of course he should be fined. Everyone should wear a seatbelt in a moving vehicle, this is basic stuff.

Sucessinthenewyear · 20/01/2023 23:07

Cuppasoupmonster · 20/01/2023 22:48

Yeah and if he was riding about on the regular with no seatbelt on then I would agree, but as a one off the phoney outrage is ridiculously over the top. Have you never ever taken it off for a second for any reason?

No. I’ve never needed to take my seatbelt off while in a moving car. I can’t think of a reason why I would need to.

watchfulwishes · 20/01/2023 23:07

Cuppasoupmonster · 20/01/2023 23:06

Given all he got was a FPN, I think the response was proportionate.

ThreeLittleDots · 20/01/2023 23:08

You don't think it should have so much media coverage? That the PM gleefully filmed himself breaking the law?

Yes he should’ve been fined.

StaunchMomma · 20/01/2023 23:11

He deserved a fine, the same as everyone else would get one.

He has been fined.

That should be the end of it.

JudgeRinderonTinder · 20/01/2023 23:16

@Cuppasoupmonster how do you know it was a ‘second?’ Because that’s what poor Rishi said when he realised he’d screwed and recorded it on social media? 😂 Aww, must be true then! It’s not like there’s any previous form for blatant lies and dishonesty is there?

Even his reason doesn’t really wash. There was no need to remove his seatbelt.

Gullible as hell.

Quinque · 20/01/2023 23:18

He was supposed to be a man of the people chatting to us about levelling up, so it shows huge lack of judgement on his part that he didn't do his seatbelt up. What I'm more angry about is that he flew up to Blackpool in a private jet which shows scant regard for the environment and the public purse.

JockTamsonsBairns · 20/01/2023 23:19

I'm a domiciliary care worker, earning less than NMW. Some years ago, I stupidly drove from No.2 in a street to No.17 (can't remember exact numbers). I definitely should have put my seat belt on - but I suppose I just thought, oh it'll only be a minute or so. I got fined £40, which is a day's pay for me. Fair enough, I was wrong, and it was reckless of me to disregard the law. If I'm getting a fine, I'm pretty sure I'd want the PM to be held to roughly the same standards.

Sparklybutold · 20/01/2023 23:21

It does matter because it represents an unexamined attitude in what should be instinct. He clearly disobeys a law so what else does he disobey? It reflects a character - for me it's about accountability, but then given who he is - I'm not surprised.

avamiah · 20/01/2023 23:22

One Rule is for everyone
We could say it’s ok for Princess Anne’s dog to attack another dog as she is Royalty but Its NOT OK is it?

I know, I'm quite surprised. He's been so careful about the image he has cultivated. Basically the opposite of Boris Johnston - he's neat and tidy, articulate, self aware, relatively clean living. Not like him to put a foot wrong.

GrapeHyacinth · 20/01/2023 23:23

Him and Boris were fined for lock down partying too. Prior to that a PM had never been fined. It just shows a complete disregard for the law
