To think the Rishi seatbelt nonsense is just tedious?

Not a Tory voter, never have been.

But seriously all this over the fact he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt? Anyone would think he’d been exposed as a sex offender or a user of Class A drugs 🙄

OP posts:
Bunnycat101 · 21/01/2023 09:16

They had to fine him. He is the PM filmed breaking the law. His team were idiots for not noticing that and putting it out there.

Athenen0ctua · 21/01/2023 09:20

Unless you were actually changing seats then anything else can be done by momentarily loosening a seatbelt, no reason to undo it.

TaRaDeBumDeAy · 21/01/2023 09:20

Cuppasoupmonster · 20/01/2023 22:52

Exactly my point! The level of outrage no longer depends on the severity of the crime but the person ‘caught’ doing it. Which is nuts.

What, now its directed the other way?

Bit like the McCanns getting away with neglect while that Tracy from the estate would have been prosecuted.

And no, I haven't neglected to wear mu seatbelt at all times, ever, let alone in the last few months.

Nolongera · 21/01/2023 09:22

Remember the absolute pelters Diane Abbot got for drinking alcohol on a train?

It's minor stuff but I expect the people who think they have the right to tell me what to do to behave correctly.

cakeorwine · 21/01/2023 09:28

A really cynical part of me is that the team knew that people would be talking about the seatbelt BUT they would also then watch the video with the messaging - and so they hoped that people would hear what he had to say - and they would "take the hit from the fine"

Couldyounot · 21/01/2023 09:29

It's yet another bloody unforced error, isn't it? Also, hilarious how all those calling for Keir Starmer to be beheaded or whatever for having a beer don't seem to be as keen when it's their guy.

Patineur · 21/01/2023 09:29

What I can't understand is the fact that they have learnt nothing from partygate. Didn't that get it through their thick heads that the electorate doesn't like politicians blatantly ignoring the law?

hennylovespens · 21/01/2023 09:32

I think it's fair enough. Tedious maybe but the fine isn't a just punishment for his deep pockets, so a turn with the rotten tomatoes in the tabloids stocks is something at least.

caminar · 21/01/2023 09:37

Cuppasoupmonster · 20/01/2023 22:45

It’s one of those ‘crimes’ that is so incredibly minor that virtually everyone has done it in the past couple of months and if this was a politician they happened to like and support, they would quickly switch their view to that as well.

Things I’ve learnt over the past couple of days. One out of four people killed on UK roads aren’t wearing a seatbelt, it’s one of the “Fatal Four” factors in UK roads deaths. In 2022, there were 1,760 fatalities in reported road collisions and 29,804 reported killed and seriously injured (KSI) casualties. (National stats for year ending June 2022 published Nov 2022)

But yeah, "incredibly minor" 🤡

inigomontoyahwillcox · 21/01/2023 09:38

I agree that he should be held responsible for it and face the appropriate penalty, but the way it's being reported in the media you'd think he'd murdered someone's firstborn.

Fucking hate about 95% of what the tories stand for, but I find it hard to get worked up about it.

Maybe they should bring the stocks back instead of a fine?

CocoKenny · 21/01/2023 09:40

Laws aren't there to be interpreted by people. You don't choose which ones you think are important enough to follow and which aren't. He's been fined twice now. He think rules are for the peasants; not for people like him.

Thesonglastslonger · 21/01/2023 09:40

My concern is not so much the seatbelt, it’s that, since this is obviously and clearly a criminal offence, wtf did the Prime Minister think he was doing filming it and putting it on the internet?

I thought Rishi was supposed to be the clever one?!

Man, three PMs in a row who are thick as a brick. And meanwhile the opposition are in pieces and all the LibDems and Greens can think about is how best to please extremist trans activists.

I guess democracy is not doing well in Britain ☹️

DownInTheDumpster · 21/01/2023 09:40

It’s yet another example of our leader not adhering to basic laws that even every child in the UK adheres to. It’s an example of carelessness and lack of respect for the law. And it sets a terrible example. So it does matter.

cakeorwine · 21/01/2023 09:41

Boris and Rishi got fined because not only were they breaking the law, they decided to take a picture of it.

And then Rishi decided to film himself breaking the law.

Don't they realise how photographs work?

Romeiswheretheheartis · 21/01/2023 09:44

I'm guessing that if it didn't cross his mind filming the video that he should have his seatbelt on, it's probably because he regularly gets driven about not wearing a seatbelt and so it's 'normal' for him. Like others have said, they think the rules don't apply to them.

I wonder if he wears a seatbelt between Number 10 and Parliament?

Of course - I bet the press will now try to take pictures of Keir not wearing a seatbelt.

Burnshersmurfs · 21/01/2023 09:48

Seems a fairly obvious plant from him and his team. I’m pretty sure that, when he’s asked about FPNs in the run up to the election, he’ll blather on at length all wide-eyed about how sorry he is about the (minor) seatbelt infraction and completely swerve his (much more serious, in terms of reputational damage) association with Partygate.

Legoninjago1 · 21/01/2023 09:48

Agree OP. So bored with this finger pointing cheap shot tattle tale culture.

MarshaBradyo · 21/01/2023 09:49

Yanbu the media and SM are back in fully fledged partygate mode and can’t believe their luck.

It is tedious in the extreme though.

LikeTearsInRain · 21/01/2023 09:49

IamnotSethRogan · 21/01/2023 09:16

To be fair he is living up to his pledge to serve us with integrity and humility. He owned up straight away.

He couldn't really get away with not owning up when it was a video. Or are we just happy when our politicians don't gaslight us?

Yeah perhaps 13 years of Tory rule where they never admit to anything has jaded me

longwayoff · 21/01/2023 09:58

YANBU OP. Am not a Tory and never will be but this seatbelt nonsense is just a distraction from the far more serious afflictions affecting their Party and therefore the rest of us.

LizzieW1969 · 21/01/2023 10:27

As a reminder, this is his second FPN making him the first ever MP to be an acknowledged law breaker both as Chancellor and as PM. He doesn't give a shit about the law because rules are for the masses not the masters.

^^This with bells on. He clearly thinks the laws of the land don’t apply to him.

He’s also a fool not to wear one, which really isn’t a good impression when he’s supposed to be running the country.

"Obvious plant". Hmmm, I think you are giving the people involved far too much credit.
