Was I being unreasonable to keep a scammer on the ropes for 2 days?

Light-hearted really and just wanted to share, loads of these scams floating around out there and the worrying part is some people probably do fall for them, but I had my fun.

That was brilliant.

My best attempt was when I had a phone call bout my road accident. My reply was to ask if I could get any compensation as I'd been killed in the accident. He transferred me to his manager who asked for details and was really understanding!!!.
She talked to me for five minutes before I got fed up and hung up.

I had the computer virus callers convinced that the ‘very bad virus’ on my computer caused it to catch fire. Sadly they were not able to help me past that point. Granted, we were up to 2 hours on the call by that point because I was the most incompetent computer user they had probably ever spoken to.

@Sweetpies I'm sorry to say you are being totally unreasonable.

Next time I fully expect you to keep this comedy gold going for at least another day.🤣

👏👏👏👏👏

I haven't had any rubbish calls for ages, I think I was blacklisted after the last one.

Have you had an accident that wasn't your fault.

Yes

Robot voice disappears and human kicks in.

What happened

I came off a roundabout at speed.

What happened next

I spent ages in A&E and two weeks in hospital

I thought about suing....

You could almost hear them salivating...... Grin

And are you ok now

Oh yes but I am never going back to that playground. Grin😜

WinterFoxes · 20/01/2023 16:30

Bliss. I've had a really stressful afternoon, and this has made me cackle so hard! Brilliant.

Inastatus · 20/01/2023 16:32

Brilliant OP 😅 The sparkly ‘crocs’ that they claimed to love 🤣

Cactusprick · 20/01/2023 16:33

Oh this is hilarious 🤣🤣 great work. Love the waffles and £7.30 bits

Lovelysausagedogscrumpy · 20/01/2023 16:35

Love it. There’s a poster on YouTube who has kept many a scammer stringing along until they’re screaming at him in rage. One of the funniest was when the scammer asked him for his credit card details and he read out 16 digits in double figures, randomly throwing ‘eleventy twelve’ into the mix each time he was asked to repeat it. The scammer eventually blew a gasket and completely lost it. Very entertaining and the longer you string them along, the more you stop them from scamming others.

Yeahrightthen · 20/01/2023 16:36

Johnny McBingley🤣🤣🤣

You should write a book OP - your humour reminds me of Jenny Eclair who I love ❤️

Misskittycat16 · 20/01/2023 16:39

How very brilliant of you! This has made me smile for the 1st time in a long time!

Echoing other pp...you should defo write a book..

seperatedmum · 20/01/2023 16:39

sure you did

REP22 · 20/01/2023 16:40

Absolute legend @Sweepies . Excellent stuff. Might I recommend:

www.419eater.com/html/letters.htm - the "scambaits" by Shiver MeTimbers are the best.

And this:

Any effort to frustrate and waste the time of these wretched scammers is very well-spent.

PainterInPeril · 20/01/2023 16:43

@Sweepies Brilliant! I had to laugh at the thought of you going out with a ladder... Were you a bit of a social climber in your younger years? A window-cleaner, perhaps?

ShandaLear · 20/01/2023 16:44

Brilliant! I am totally doing this!!

2023pending · 20/01/2023 16:44

Cocaine and chicken burgers again hahahahahahhaha

MadameDe · 20/01/2023 16:46

Brilliant 👏 Not sure I would ever be bothered to do it though. Last time I had a nuisance call I really shouted in an unpleasant way. Haven't had a single call since then. I would feel bad but I do feel what they do is worse.

Mumofoneson5 · 20/01/2023 16:51

Please be my friend in real life 🤣🤣🤣

I text the number they sent, I'm not sure why they do it from two numbers. Maybe to better avoid being detected or make it seem more legitimate? Also these types of things are normally via whatsapp (for incription) and they normally want paypal transfers or some dodgy paysite. This was on imessage and they gave me their full bank details, so not the brightest spark.

When I set up a new payee on my online banking app it checks the account name against the actual records. Has the scammer given you a real name?!

Good work at stringing them along for so long!

TwoPointFourCatsAndDogs · 20/01/2023 17:02

Brilliant!

I miss all those accident/insurance phone calls. The kids and I use to put them on speaker phone and waffle away, the crazier the ‘accident’ the better.

SnowyOwl1 · 20/01/2023 17:04

🤣🤣🤣 brilliant, those jelly shoes 😆

YouScrewMeIScrewYouBack · 20/01/2023 17:08

Brilliant. Someone once text me a sexually harassing message with my name in it, so they knew who I was but I didn't know who they were. After they ignored my calls, I then threatened to go to the police. They apologised. But in the meantime I signed their number up for every sales call out there - windows (one that I know are particularly sales aggressive and will call you for months) penis enlargement consultation, a load of women's rights updates etc.

I hope he was harassed for weeks like I was by him!

Maybe sign that person up for all those too?
