There are social tariffs for broadband and water if your on some benefits.
If you have Plantar Facilitis a Cortisone injection can be given free at the doctors and helps relieve the pain.

If you don't have a smart meter, the fuel companies have to apply for a warrant to cut you off and you get to put your case to a bench of Magistrates. If you have a smart meter, you lose that right.

Bear attacks can be avoided by having a slower friend with you.

If you're called abroad on a family emergency, eg someone becomes ill, take out an annual travel policy before you go. Companies will not extend your policy once you are abroad if you need to stay for more than, say, the week you expected.insured for. You'll need to return to the UK before you can take out insurance again.

If you're ever called home from abroad in an emergency, do not attempt to book flights from your hotel/en route to airport. Get to the airport and ask at the information desk for details of the next three flights going to your destination, and then run to the desks of the flights in the order of their departure times.

Unless you've got an open ended policy with no trip limit they will still want to see return tickets before they pay any claim. Many cover only up to 31 days unless you specify and pay more

See, I'd have eaten the liver first. Just shows you.

If you are in a situation where someone gets stabbed or impaled by anything, DO NOT PULL OUT whatever it is. Use rolled up socks or whatever and gaffer tape or plaster or anything to hold it steady and get them to hospital with it still in.

A splash of soy sauce will season most things more nicely than a pinch of salt.

If your child gets lost in a public place, don't shout their name. Instead shout that you are looking for a 6 year old girl with red hair in a green jumper, or whatever. That way everyone in earshot is looking for them. a. they are more likely to be found quickly, and b. in the unlikely event someone took them, it's a lot harder for them to get away unnoticed.

Not every time, but occasionally put half a dishwasher tab in the dishwasher instead of a whole one (mainly I use a whole one but you don’t need to all the time)

white spirit or meths will clean off hairspray (on mirrors etc), or residue from price labels.

It saves a lot of time if you always make double the amount of food. Works for most things including packed lunch sandwiches.

change pillowcases more regularly than bed sheets as they get sweaty more quickly.

buy double length toilet rolls - used to be only Cushelle (or very cheap smartprice ones available) but Asda and Sainsbury's now do decent ones.

if your teenagers have their own bathroom make a point of using it yourself (clean the bath/shower first) then help yourself to any luxury bubble baths, conditioner etc. this is payback for them stealing yours!

Lynx?! No thank you.

Save money on expensive binoculars by simply moving nearer to what you want to look at

If you live alone or are having a bath when alone in the house make sure you pull the plug out before you get out of the bath. If you slide and hit your head and knock yourself out you won't drown. 🛀

Same applies if attacked by a bear...

Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream can be used for a variety of first aid purposes.

MargaretThursday · 20/01/2023 17:56

it's = it is (eg it's warm outside/it is warm outside)
its = possessive (eg its legs)

you're = you are (eg you're a star/you are a star)
your = possessive (eg your Christmas presents)

If you say it in your head then it's fairly obvious (eg "it is legs" and "you are Christmas presents" clearly are wrong when you say it like that)

More fun one:

Burying skulls (or other desirable bones) in a compost bin cleans them up beautifully.

A fishy odour can be an early sign of electrical fire. If you smell such a smell, and it makes no sense (such as in a bedroom) check electrical items near by.

This saved my life recently. I hope it’s helpful for
others.

Also the smell of garlic. That was my electric blanket melting...

Buy your dc brightly coloured swimming costumes (not blue/ black/green) so you and the lifeguards can see them quickly and clearly if they are underwater for any length of time.

Yes! Lifeguard here. Avoid blue, especially light blue swimming hats too. Black is actually not too bad.

Spray hairspray onto the collar of blouses/shirts about 20 minutes before putting on. It forms a barrier and prevents makeup stains .

Excellent tip - I am currently sporting a white blouse with a nice rim of foundation on it.

Small, brown, polite bears can be placates with marmalade sandwiches.

Take some vegetables with you, or you might starve?

@TheRedLip, I also read somewhere that emptying your bowels is another off putting way to deal with sexual attacks.

If hands are smelly after cutting garlic/onions wash them in COLD water only. Hot water releases the oils and you will stink.

If you have a cut that is bleeding and won't stop, slap a cool used teabag on it, keep it there for a bit. The tannins in the teabag help clotting. It works!

Use a big scissors to cut pizza.

Put a drier sheet in your underwear drawer.

Hug a bear.

I always do this too!

I also bring a plastic box (like a small laundry basket) to put the takeaway into so that it doesn't tip over and spill!

We don't have a car so take a thermal picnic bag (great for fish and chips)

White bread (basic sliced) cleans suede
