That it wasn’t the expected thing for everyday women to have cosmetic surgery, Botox and fillers. It was pretty much the preserve if the rich and famous.

camelfinger · 23/01/2023 18:58

It’s just occurred to me that there wasn’t a cost of living crisis, but people seemed to economise and have fun at the same time. For example wearing your favourite pulling dress repeatedly rather than fast fashion, getting tanked up on cheap cider at home/on the bus into town then nursing one drink all night, walking miles to save on taxi costs (or there weren’t any), taping stuff off the charts, having to take in sandwiches to your Saturday job as a man hour’s wages wouldn’t cover a Boots meal deal.

AttentionAll · 23/01/2023 19:05

@camelfinger I still do those things. It is why as a family we still do fun things even though our income is fairly low.

LBFseBrom · 27/01/2023 21:00

I remember negative equity, people losing their homes and jobs because of firms closing down. Things improved in the late 1990s. When I look back over my 73 years, there is nothing new under the sun.

Smileymoon1 · 27/01/2023 21:09

Woolworths
blockbusters
the little oil pearls from the body shop for the bath
the little gems that we twisted into our hair!

NeelyOHara1 · 27/01/2023 21:15

More individuality of look, opinion and employment options.

Bluebirdpinkcat · 27/01/2023 21:18

When i die one day I know full well my heaven will be 1994! I’m somehow hoping that I’ll just be able to travel back and stay there for eternity!

EnglishMuffins · 27/01/2023 21:22

No social media

the world just seeming “nicer”. Not having awful news at our fingertips , or rammed down our throats
dial up internet. Solitaire, Paint

People turning up to things at the time they said they would and nobody constantly changing plans and cancelling - because nobody had phones.

(Cough) I can't exactly say flowing dresses with DMs, because we're now in 2023 and I still haven't given them up ...

Timesawastin · 27/01/2023 22:14

Nothing. I was stressed, miserable and poor. Hated the 90s.

What did you do to achieve being British? I ask that because I am and will always be British, it's just how it is.

Unless you are now infirm, you can still travel.

I miss my cats, wouldn't have one now as I'm 73 and it may outlive me.

The late '90s were pretty good, earlier not so much, so many people had really hard times.

Myusernamewouldntdojusticetowomen · 29/01/2023 04:26

All of it! I was a teenagers in the 90’s and life was just better somehow. I understood the works but now I’m bewildered and feel out of touch a lot. I’m scared about how fast the world moves now.
