At the protest for the Scottish gender reform bill last night. We silly women are only permitted to talk about prams and weaning don’t you know?

Keep Politics In Mumsnet

Slothtoes · 19/01/2023 23:33

I mean honestly how misogynistic is that ‘Keep Mumsnet out of Politics’

why not just write ‘I hate Safeguarding’
and ‘I hate Women’?

To the posters saying there isn’t transphobia on here, I saw a thread the other day (think it was on FWR) about complications following surgery for trans people. I saw multiple replies along the lines of “oh well” “shame” as if because they were trans, they deserved that? And even if you argue that when there is transphobia, it’s reported and removed, surely the fact that it’s even there in the first place in such volumes is quite telling? There’s a difference between wanting to protect female only spaces, and thinking someone’s life is less worthy because of how they identify/what they are.

That's weird because I read that thread and all I saw was sympathy being expressed that people had been so badly lied to.

IcakethereforeIam · 19/01/2023 23:54

@Clymene tbf I think there was one post of that nature and multiple posts calling them out for it. The bulk of that thread was sympathy to the people who have been damaged and disgust that there wasn't better advice and fully informed consent. Some will still see that as transphobic.

omnitea · 19/01/2023 23:54

Silly, stupid women thinking they have any right to have a voice or boundaries. Don't they know they are second class citizens who must just accept every transgression a male wants to make on them, their spaces or bodies?

Clymene · 19/01/2023 23:46

That's weird because I read that thread and all I saw was sympathy being expressed that people had been so badly lied to.

Most of the posts were supportive of trans peoples’ experiences, but there were posts deleted for transphobia, and one of the first few responses says “Oh well.” There are pages of posters quoting that post and ones that were deleted deleted calling it out to be fair, so credit where it’s due, but it’s still here isn’t it? The transphobia. To be honest I try and stay away from the FWR board because I don’t agree with a lot of what’s on it, so why get involved, but I imagine if I did trawl through the threads, there’d be similarly thinly veiled transphobia remarks. I do think mumsnet has a problem with transphobia. Even if it’s a relatively small problem, it’s definitely there.

Link to the thread for anyone who wants to see for themselves. Only one post was deleted for insensitivity to transpeople, the post was flippant and although it can't be seen now you can see where that poster was quoted and how others responded.

So we’ve had the “right to exist”, “right side of history”. Have they done the “most vulnerable” yet to get the full bingo card?

No, but they managed to slip 'terf' in and 'abhorrent'

Just need a 'terrifying' or some fake suicide stats.

Gender identity ideology is inherently homophobic and misogynistic, as well as being illogical, inconsistent and incoherent.

Telling us we can't point out the sex of transwomen? They are literally men who identify as women.

Telling us we must go along with someone else's belief system because it will hurt their feelings if we don't?

Don't give a shit what someone wants to call themself or their personal presentation as long as they stop conflating 'gender' with sex.

AutumnCrow · 20/01/2023 00:26

SidewaysOtter · 19/01/2023 23:16

I think we’re waiting for “Literal violence” too.

Ah yes. The literal violets.

Genius! That should be the name of the florist on that FWR island, several thread-years ago..

NoWordForFluffy · 19/01/2023 22:41

Only to the hard of thinking.

That's Twitter summed up.

Marchmount · 20/01/2023 07:09

@electricdreaming is that really the best example that you’ve got? One post being banned for expressing ambivalence that the elective and notoriously risky cosmetic surgery didn’t turn out as hoped? You’d get more “mean” comments on a thread about a woman who opted for a Brazilian bum lift or veneers and it all went wrong. Most posters were focusing on their comments on the doctors who take part in this.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 20/01/2023 07:12

Xrays · 19/01/2023 22:42

This. I am getting to the point where I’m embarrassed if people discover I post here now. They think the whole forum is like that.

Do they also think that the whole of Twitter is pushing pro-paedophile views, or anti-vaxxer or pro-Trump views, all of which can be found in abundance all over Twitter? Or do they understand in that case that Twitter has millions of users and they all think differently? Just like Mumsnet.

LlynTegid · 20/01/2023 07:13

Not being political is political in itself.

GrabbyGabby · 20/01/2023 07:33

I believe we only need 'most marginalised' to get full house.

I will ask the questions again.

Is wanting to keep people with penises out of womens prisons and refuges transphobic?

Why do you think people with penises who identify as women are less of a threat to women than people with penises who identify as men? What evidence do you have to support your view?

Would you be happy for your teenage daughter to share shower facilities with a person with a penis?

BeggyMitchell · 20/01/2023 07:34

Yes not a hive mind, either. Nobody but an idiot would say something like 'Keep Twitter' out of politics'.

Yes this. They're confirming their own stupidity.

Let them crack on.

Clymene · 20/01/2023 07:48

One post was deleted @electricdreaming and another was dismissive. Neither of them were from posters whose names I recognise.

I'm sure you'll be as shocked as I was to learn that there are people out there who join MN simply in order to post inflammatory content on threads discussing women's rights and trans issues and screenshot them to post on Twitter.

@Xrays - I don't tell people I post on here either.

ResisterRex · 20/01/2023 07:48

IcakethereforeIam · 19/01/2023 23:09

If anyone is interested in trying to strengthen women's rights, please consider following this link to the petition board to sign and share. Thank you

I'll echo this. Protect women and children. Sign the petition! At 100,000, it may be debated in Parliament. Heck, they might even say this was bouncing around on <gasp> MUMSNET 😱

The horror!!

TheKeatingFive · 20/01/2023 07:59

Is wanting to keep people with penises out of womens prisons and refuges transphobic?

Is a disabled woman, wanting the intimate care they need to be provided by females only, trans

TheKeatingFive · 20/01/2023 07:59

Transphobic?

nilsmousehammer · 20/01/2023 08:05

Gawd, bloody women eh? Wanting other women to have equality of access instead of some being excluded from anything so that men of all different identities can have their preferred choice out of everything, and wanting to have equality of legal rights. And for women not to be raped in prisons.

Rude. So rude. Shouty cowbags who are just so unkind when being oppressed.

HermioneWeasley · 20/01/2023 08:36

Xrays · 19/01/2023 22:53

Yep. And then they’ll all claim to not know how they’re being transphobic with their big, (fake), wide eyed naivety. And then they tell you to go and educate yourself, because only stupid women could possibly be so ill advised about the dangers to women and children. So outdated and tedious.

Just because there are some “fake” trans women who are taking advantage of things it does not mean we have a right to bigotry.

Fed up with the bullying of particular areas of this forum. It’s refreshing to see some different views on this thread.

I’m anther one who would love to know how we are supposed to be able to tell the “fake” trans women from the genuine ones.

given stats like these, there seem to be an awful lot of the “fake” ones being a danger
