Can I ask something for total clarity? Does knowing that men cannot turn into women and vice versa now constitute "a phobia" i.e an irrational fear?

Because this seems to me rather different to homophobia and xenophobia etc

I think the kids on the school bus being stalked and harassed by the man who wears girls uniforms from different schools and who the police have told 'isnt a risk' because he is 'trans' are probably a bit phobic of him getting on their bus and taking photos.

MeinKraft · 19/01/2023 22:48

'I hope MN are noting that their name is becoming synonymous with transphobic views.'

Maybe 10 years ago. Then GC feminists started winning all their court cases, and JKR wrote her letter, and channel 4 made that documentary about the harm the Tavistock clinic is doing to kids, and companies started backing away from Stonewall, and the sports bodies realised men shouldn't be competing as women and now Mermaids is being investigated. And the tide has massively turned. Mumsnet, Facebook, Twitter, the comments section in nearly all of the mainstream news sites...are they all cesspits? Or could it be that most people just object to being told to ignore the evidence of their eyes and ears?

I guess people who think gays are just straight people who are sick or possessed aren't denying gay people exist then...

When your only argument left is hitching yourself to another groups battle and one that you are actively trying to destroy as well...

Cherryana · 19/01/2023 22:51

This issue is neither neat nor black and white.

-Follow the money number one - who profits from this?
-Look back at history of vulnerable young people and ask what is about now that is fuelling such a leap in identification as trans?
-Why is saying you are worried about young people making life changing changes to their body wrong?
-Why is it okay for the meaning of words to be changed without discussion?

None of those questions are transphobic nor denying anyone’s right to exist - but they do need exploring, the may need legislation and they are definitely worth discussing.

This.

I hope MN are noting that their name is becoming synonymous with transphobic views.

I think they know 😂

Yep. And then they’ll all claim to not know how they’re being transphobic with their big, (fake), wide eyed naivety. And then they tell you to go and educate yourself, because only stupid women could possibly be so ill advised about the dangers to women and children. So outdated and tedious.

Just because there are some “fake” trans women who are taking advantage of things it does not mean we have a right to bigotry.

Fed up with the bullying of particular areas of this forum. It’s refreshing to see some different views on this thread.

I can tell you the UK is looked upon with envy by women in other countries. Not only do you have the EA that defines the legal words man and woman, but you also have Mumsnet. Where women can still go and learn about what is happening and organise and discuss the good, the bad an the ugly.

Delphinium20 · 19/01/2023 22:54

The anti-trans posters on this thread are calling trans women men. You can see that, right?

I don't think that's the horror you think it is.

"Look! There are people over there saying the Earth is round! You see that right?"

You do realise sex and gender are two different things. So trans women are female gender and male sex and trans men are male gender and female sex. The trans women are men/male comments are just pointing this out. They are not saying you can’t have a misalignment between your gender and your sex but that the fact you have one doesn’t change your underlying sex.

sanluca · 19/01/2023 22:58

This type of argument is really infuriating. The law says any male person who says they are a transwoman, is a transwoman. So being fake is NOT POSSIBLE. You can't say they are fake, so stop calling them fake. If a male transwoman takes advantage of self id, guess what, they are still a transwoman! But a bad one and one who should be kept out of womens spaces, not let in.

Basically your argument is that women and girls being harmed by male people is acceptable and should be seen as collateral damage to give male people what they want

What is a 'fake' transwoman compared to a 'non-fake' one and how does a 13 year old girl in the female toilets know the difference?

Gosh we are learning so much here tonight. I've wondered this for years and here we have an expert.

TheMatriarchy · 19/01/2023 23:02

Us silly mumsies, we should stick to shy looks, flirty skirts and highly inappropriate workwear, like proper 'girls'. Politics tsk!

LSE leaving stonewall was seminal news, the capture in education is horrendous.

Clymene · 19/01/2023 23:06

Just a reminder that there are plenty of other forums out there f this one isn't to your liking.

I may have a few thoughts on whether politics should be on Mumsnet or not.

I may have expressed a few of them in the past...

Now I didn't know that!

UCL left a while back too.

The tide is turning.

So we’ve had the “right to exist”, “right side of history”. Have they done the “most vulnerable” yet to get the full bingo card?

I think we’re waiting for “Literal violence” too.

Marchmount · 19/01/2023 23:18

oh yes. Literal violence for pointing that a male in a dress is a male in a dress.

Mamaneedsadrink · 19/01/2023 23:20

How bizarre. Although I did despair slightly at the one yesterday about Rishi's height

TheKeatingFive · 19/01/2023 23:23

Of all the transphobic "trans women are men" comments

But that's just the truth. It's biology you're finding transphobic, not mumsnet.

I'm also in favour of having political debate everywhere. And I find the anti-trans vibe on MN distasteful.

I find penises in women's changing rooms distasteful and rapey. Weird that you don't.

electricdreaming · 19/01/2023 23:28

To the posters saying there isn’t transphobia on here, I saw a thread the other day (think it was on FWR) about complications following surgery for trans people. I saw multiple replies along the lines of “oh well” “shame” as if because they were trans, they deserved that? And even if you argue that when there is transphobia, it’s reported and removed, surely the fact that it’s even there in the first place in such volumes is quite telling? There’s a difference between wanting to protect female only spaces, and thinking someone’s life is less worthy because of how they identify/what they are.
