To think that caring about what is fashionable is childish?

Or at least portrays a massive lack of confidence?

I can understand it in teenagers- you're still developing both physically and as a person and conformity is safety.

But for adults? Why would an adult choose clothes because they're "in" as opposed to whether or not you, personally suit them?
That they make you happy, comfortable or make you comfortable?

See plenty of threads on here asking exactly that.

And womenswear is the biggest influence in interiors.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 18/01/2023 16:22

Because you’ve rejected fashion!

I've rejected the idea of following it. So why would I care if I was accidentally fashionable? Why?

I'm also highly amused at the idea of doing my house up to impress some children

I used to think this until I learned how to dress.

BitOutOfPractice · 18/01/2023 16:28

I think making sweeping judgements about other people’s interests that have literally no impact on you is childish. It’s the sort of thing you do when you’re younger and your own opinions and personality is still developing.

So I guess we’re even eh? 🤷‍♀️

QuertyGirl · 18/01/2023 16:30

Just think the world would be a better place if people allowed themselves a bit more individuality.

Clothes, decor whatever.

As long as it's the individuality you approve of, hm?

If you think it's not possible to have a personal take on what's in fashion then perhaps you aren't quite as good at dressing as you think you are.

Calphurnia88 · 18/01/2023 16:35

Out of interest @QuertyGirl , what would you wear on a typical day?

QuertyGirl · 18/01/2023 16:35

Why would some random person want my approval?

Why would some random person want my approval?

Why tell everyone about your disapproval if you expect and intend to be roundly ignored?

Calphurnia88 · 18/01/2023 16:37

QuertyGirl · 18/01/2023 16:36

Why do you ask?

You obviously have a lot of opinions on how others should dress themselves. I'm interested to know how you dress.

Wasn't being against anything fashionable the whole point of your post?

No

@JackieDaws "I want to look like I care about myself" ...? Seriously ...? Do people who don't follow fashion look like they don't care about themselves? Think about it.

QuertyGirl · 18/01/2023 16:39

@Calphurnia88

I'd like to see people have more opinion over how they themselves dress first

But even the ‘individuals’ are saying something. Out of interest are these individuals wearing togas too? Because all clothes have to be bought somewhere….

And if you want to see REALLY individual, go and look at your local fashion students. They take individual to the extreme. But they’re doing fashion😲weird that isn’t it?!😂

Spirini · 18/01/2023 16:41

Believe it or not there was an anti-fashion trend which has come full circle and is now a 'look' in itself. It's called normcore.

However I think that OP's stance is that you should be above it all and superior, like her

Forthelast · 18/01/2023 16:43

I'm staggered are the thought that I should be having my kitchen redone to spare my children's embarrassment.

It sounds like the weaker point in a long list of reasons designed to wear down opposition.

But what if their opinion is that they want to be fashionable? Why is your opinion more important/superior to theirs?

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 18/01/2023 16:46

I wouldn’t do mine for my children either. But if l was redoing my kitchen, it would follow trends because THAT IS ALL YOU CAN BUY, unless you want some bespoke out of date kitchen.

But if it was 40 years old, l think the average teen might be a bit nervous about bringing their friends there. Not an older teen who thinks it is retro, but a younger teen.

Forthelast · 18/01/2023 16:46

Greatly · 18/01/2023 15:31

Do you know, that is an excellent point - that it's always about women's clothes!

I love fashion even though I'm in my late fifties. Sometimes I might even look - horror of horrors - like I'm dressing too young for my age. Go me.

It's not always about women's clothes. And what if it was - you'd still care about what the woman in the sweatshop was wearing as she made your hot new incredibly priced skirt wouldn't you? Go you!

QuertyGirl · 18/01/2023 16:46

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow

Fashion students are not following fashion though, they seek to set it. That's something else entirely.

It's those see to imitate it that I don't understand

Dd is into this.

Gringe was a similar anti fashion thing.

Mycatisasleep · 18/01/2023 16:48

QuertyGirl · 18/01/2023 16:19

I don't go out of my way to be different. I pick what I want. Whether it's different to others or not isn't relevant, but it generally is.

I just find hard to believe that thousands of people have the same tastes in certain things. It's following fashion. Hence theads on here almost asking for permission to wear white trainers or whatever.

Me too. I doubt I'd dare someone into fashion it vice versa. But I don't think people who have different interests from me are 'childish' unless they are obsessively worried about what others think, maybe.
