That schools should not be telling children they are born in the wrong bodies?

This is so alarming now - just how many children do we think are born in the wrong bodies?

Is this not now just science fiction?

YABU - Rainbows are magic

YANBU - It's brainwashing. No child is born in the wrong body and schools must be held to account.

Nonsense

StephanieSuperpowers · 18/01/2023 14:43

Younger girls do it because it's a mask.

I think this is why so many older women are the ones talking about this. We all had female puberty to live through, we know it's so, so hard and can see that, from the point of view of enduring the reaction to your changing body, it's infinitely harder now than it was. I wouldn't like to be a young girl now and I can fully imagine wanting to identify out of the porn soaked hellscape that it appears to be.

@Mumof3daughters16 that must have been an awful thing to go through.

Do you worry that more and more children will go through similar the more we push the trans idea?

Exactly this.

The well worn line "I would rather have a transgender daughter than a dead son." pushed through the media by Susie Green, the unqualified woman who ran Mermaids - has a lot to answer for.

I hear kids trot versions of this out a lot now. If you are constantly telling kids that one group are going to kill themselves - what do we think is going to happen?

So here is a question - if this is the case - how is it not a mental illness?
No child is born in the wrong body. It may be that someone cannot accept reality to the point where they feel suicidal - but that doesn't mean that a person can change sex. As I child I would often have suicidal feelings because I wasn't white like my classmates who were bullying me. It didn't make me white on the inside.

The NHS should not be putting healthy children on puberty blockers. The schools should not be socially transitioning children. Adults should not be affirming the identities of children who can't cope with reality.

Gender identity is what exactly - still no one can define it.

In the recent census, there were equal numbers of trans men and trans women, which seems at odds with your assertation that 'adult transitioners are mostly male'.

Do you think the census data is accurate? As many trans people were boasting about filling it in incorrectly, using gender rather than sex. Plus there were 48K TW, 48K TM and 118K who said their gender was different from their sex but didn't expand on that. How can anything of substance be drawn from that without knowing about the other 118K identified? Also, 30K are non-binary so could be male or female.

The census question on gender identity was a voluntary question asked of those aged 16 years and over. The question asked “Is the gender you identify with the same as your sex registered at birth?”.
Overall, 45.7 million (94.0% of the population aged 16 years and over) answered the question.
The question was voluntary and was only asked of people aged 16 years and over. People were asked “Is the gender you identify with the same as your sex registered at birth?”, and had the option of selecting either “Yes”, or selecting “No” and writing in their gender identity.
Across England and Wales, there were responses from 45.7 million people (94.0% of the population aged 16 years and over).
A total of 45.4 million (93.5%) answered “Yes”, indicating that their gender identity was the same as their sex registered at birth.
A total of 262,000 people (0.5%) answered “No”, indicating that their gender identity was different from their sex registered at birth. Within this group:
118,000 (0.24%) answered “No” but did not provide a write-in response
48,000 (0.10%) identified as a trans man
48,000 (0.10%) identified as a trans woman
30,000 (0.06%) identified as non-binary
18,000 (0.04%) wrote in a different gender identity

I find it pretty offensive that policies are based on the assumption that children need protection from ‘abusive’ parents

It's extremely offensive. If there are safeguarding concerns around parents that teachers have observed, they need to raise them in the standard way. If that's not the case, they can't just go off on a solo run and socially transition a child on the assumption that the parents are somehow abusive.

When a child tells us that they are unsafe at home, we should believe them.

TheKeatingFive · 18/01/2023 14:49

When a child tells us that they are unsafe at home, we should believe them.

By applying appropriate safeguarding protocols, not secretly transitioning them

WandaWomblesaurus · 18/01/2023 14:49

What is the difference between gender identity and identity crisis?

What is the difference between body dimorphia and gender dysmorphia?

When a child tells us that they are unsafe at home, we should believe them.

Absolutely. There are long standing protocols in place for teachers to do that and they should waste no time in applying them rigorously. This does not include transitioning children in secret but taking no further action.

This is a very good question. It feels like there is something big and powerful at play here.

Yes and if we look into where Queer theory ultimately takes us, or things like Jacob Breslow's (ex board member of Mermaids) academic interests, it is very concerning.

FourTeaFallOut · 18/01/2023 14:51

The word unsafe has branched out into new territory though to include the literal violence of asking questions and not being convinced.

You'll all have to come up with a better insult. Transphobia has been erased of all meaning now.

StephanieSuperpowers · 18/01/2023 14:55

you could all just fuck off over there with your poisonous opinions.

Which opinions do you consider poisonous, and why?

Lilavanblue · 18/01/2023 14:55

Whatsnewpussyhat · 18/01/2023 11:22

The numbers don't support it - given what we know about the adult trans population, it follows since all trans adults were once children that a similar proportion of children are trans. So why are we shocked that more of them are realising that at a time when there is much more visibility of trans issues

So why are the majority of over 25y tend folk male? Where are all the middle age women suddenly coming out knowing g they'd always been men all along
Seems odd considering the majority of 'trans' teens are female? Who incidentally are the group most vulnerable to social contagion and peer pressure.

The evidence doesn't support it - given that the only study claiming this phenomenon is absolute nonsense that relies entirely on parents self-reporting that their child's gender dysphoria came out of the blue (as if parents of queer kids haven't been unaware of their children's struggles for centuries)

Why do so many of these girls have no issue being a girl until 13/14?

That‘s a very good point.

Mumof3daughters16

Your child is what we used to call transexual. A minuscule number of mostly males who would be in such mental distress that surgery etc would be the last option.
We barely heard about these people who just got on with their lives.
They already have rights and protections.

How does that compare to the likes of phil/pip bunce? A straight married man who likes to cross dress a few times a week(for reasons we mustn't say) and gets put on a list for business woman of the year because he thinks he's a woman on a tuesday and Friday?

Or the celebs like the attention seeking Sam Smith who can't possibly be nominated for an award in the male category because he's 'non binary'.
Which has zero meaning whatsoever.

Or the eleventy billion genders and neo pronouns the kids can choose from now?
Like the uni student who says she's cat gender and must be referred to as meow and meow self.

Those that claim trans identities because it's trendy or gets them attention or likes on socials.

Where's the line?

What EXACTLY is trans. Because to Stonewall, all of the above belong under the big trans umbrella.
Which quite frankly, makes a mockery of what your child went through.

It's either a mental health issue that can be treated, or a nonsense free for all that is utterly meaningless.
