Pancake day

Viperama · 18/01/2023 00:38

School have asked parents in DC year to make 400 pancakes for pancake day. I’m North American, will I be hated if I contribute with American style pancakes? I make them all the time and it’s super easy for me. Some will have blueberries and others chocolate cooked inside.
DC is allergic to dairy and egg and I’ve a good recipe to make without.
Will everyone be unimpressed???

All pancakes are good pancakes.

Snugglemonkey · 18/01/2023 00:41

I am not American, but that is what I would make. Just easier.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 18/01/2023 00:52

Sounds delicious. Nice to have a bit of variety!

Forgottenmypasswordagain · 18/01/2023 00:52

Make what you want, or don't make any, it is voluntary. Pretty cheeky request.

saltinesandcoffeecups · 18/01/2023 00:57

My rule is , if you’re paying me…you get to dictate terms. If you’re asking me to do it for free well then it’s dealers choice.

Tothemoonandbackx · 18/01/2023 01:02

400!!!!!! 😳😳😳😳😳

GoT1904 · 18/01/2023 01:40

They sound incredible. I think there'll be a variety of pancakes produced so wouldn't worry.

MrsTerryPratchett · 18/01/2023 01:43

Dairy and egg free is funny because pancake day is traditionally the start of Lent and the point is to use up all the eggs and milk Grin

No one will care about the style of pancake!

AlwaysLatte · 18/01/2023 01:48

Sounds perfect! My husband is American and am a convert. We love them with blueberries and maple syrup on Sundays (also they travel much better, so go for it!)

LlynTegid · 18/01/2023 05:44

Let them know about the allergy and so you will do something different, and say it is to ensure everyone can take part.

MrsPicklesonSmythe · 18/01/2023 06:10

There is no such thing as an inappropriate pancake, sounds brilliant!

Typo22 · 18/01/2023 06:15

American pancakes are the pancake of choice in this household, I'd not be mad at you if you brought some to my door. In fact I'll PM you my address 😁

FixItUpChappie · 18/01/2023 06:15

I'm leaving to google what a UK pancake looks like....

ShirleyPhallus · 18/01/2023 06:17

These sound much better than a British pancake, which is delicious out of the pan but quite frankly a horrible flobbly mess cold

DadANDPK · 18/01/2023 06:19

They'll be appreciated!! Let them know you'll be bringing dairy & egg free so they can direct the kids with allergies to them

How can pancakes go cold? In my house there is a queue waiting to grab theirs and they are all eaten hot. I can't compute a cold pancake. Maybe my lot are just greedy.

GinoVino · 18/01/2023 06:29

Sound delicious! But 400???

littlelid · 18/01/2023 06:29

Fine but why are they making so many pancakes? And how do they know the food hygiene standards of everyone's houses?

They'll go cold becuase presumably they aren't wanting 400 pancakes made on the school premises and then be served up warm immediately.

You'll be disappointed. But they taste nice.

A cold pancake is something I've never experienced. Seems criminal to me.

Mumdiva99 · 18/01/2023 06:45

I'm very British but can't imagine a cold thin flabby pancake.

You will be up against Warburtons Scotch Pancakes - either in or out the pack.....depending if the parent wants to pretend they made them......or maybe that's just the school my kids go to!

toomuchfaster · 18/01/2023 06:48

What are they doing with 400 pancakes? It sounds like a massive waste unless there are 400 children and they will each eat the one they've brought in. In this case, you need to make whatever your DC can eat.

megletthesecond · 18/01/2023 06:49

That is gross. I wouldn't want to eat food prepared in some random persons house. The children with allergies won't be able to eat them either.

We make too many (American ones) pancakes, at least twice a week and they go cold. They just get warmed up before being eaten again. I don’t kind mind cold.

OP, we always make American pancakes. I’d have made those for school without a second thought, tbh. Thank God for good options for dairy and gluten these days. The children with allergies and intolerances will be grateful.

The only time we make British ones is on that pancake day when we have them for our dinner/tea.
