Me and my friend both go to the same hair salon and both get full head of highlights and a cut which now costs £160
Last Monday morning I booked an appointment for yesterday (the following Monday )
The afternoon they put a offer on fb /Instagram 50% off colour in January -book now.
So my friend booked in for yesterday too (Monday )
Got to the till hers came to £80 and she charged me £160
I asked why I didn't get the 50% off colour and she said I had booked my appointment 2 hours before they put the social media post out there for the 50% off colours
Aibu to think that's unfair ?
I go there every 7 weeks and have done for years

MotherOfHouseplants I get bored very easily and am self employed so little advantage to sitting in a hair dressers for 4 hours..

I am with you givemushypeasachance I get mine cut twice a year for about £60 a pop and dye it using stuff from Boots. I resent the 4 hours spent in the hairdressers wasting time and loss of salary! I can't imagine spending half a day every 2 months!!

Well, I do my hair on the weekend where I don't work, so I don't lose any salary.

MrPickles73 · 17/01/2023 15:46

xogossipgirlxo I've got children to look after at the weekend if I had a 4 spare hours I wouldnt want to sit in a hairdressers. A spa would be more fun!

Sunnistery · 17/01/2023 15:54

As a business owner, no way would I charge such a long term regular client full price due to some promo timeline. Particularly in current times.

OP, I hope you find another salon as they don't deserve your custom anymore.

Nuance and customer loyalty is everything in my book.

No babies here (yet). One on the way and already planning to do combi feeding, so husband can stay while I do my hair 😂I can carry on without having nails done etc., but I love having fresh new colour. I don't love sitting at hairdresser (it's rather boring and I don't like small talk or listening to other people talking), but I love the results. I wouldn't be able to do it at home though.

I don't see how that stops you using your imagination to conjure an alternative reality where a person is salaried! You might equally say the same about time spent sleeping, or MNing...

Princesspollyyy · 17/01/2023 16:12

Well I would have stuck £80 down on the desk and said thanks very much. That's my payment.

Wookiebowl · 17/01/2023 17:55

Oh I'd be annoyed at this!

Mommabear20 · 17/01/2023 13:21

You booked before the offer! Therefore you don't get the offer!

So many people spectacularly missing the point.

The hairdresser hasn’t done anything wrong, no. She’s well within her rights to not give the OP the discount.

In fact, if she sticks to her guns and doesn’t, she gets a whole £80!

Oh, but potentially loses £1,120 annually…….

In whose world does this even vaguely make financial sense……??

LimitIsUp · 17/01/2023 20:19

Take your custom elsewhere in future

teezletangler · 17/01/2023 20:30

That is so shortsighted and mean on the salon's part.

Here's a counter example of excellent customer service. I shop regularly at a local independent clothing boutique. Just after new year I went in and the owner said to me, our sale doesn't start for a couple of weeks and I haven't started tagging, but if there's anything you like I'll give you a discount now. I bought 4 items, a couple of them quite expensive, and she gave me 25% off everything, even a blouse that was brand new in. That's how to keep a customer happy and guaranteed to come back!

Kittenmitten22 · 17/01/2023 22:32

As a business owner myself, yes you are being unreasonable. It's a cracking deal, so if they said 'oh go on then' to you and gave you the deal, before the deal even existed, they'd be losing money. Where does it end? How many people booked the same time as you, are they expected to give them all a deal too? They have to have T&Cs or it's never ending and they get taken advantage of.

We have an offer at the moment and anyone not Quoting the offer code, will not get the offer. Simple.

So you’d rather risk losing a long-term customer, who spends over £1K a year, for the sake of £80?

Kittenmitten22 · 17/01/2023 22:49

No. I would give our most loyal customers a nudge, a reminder that there is a code. But we have to stick to T&Cs as a small company trying to make ends meet. But my point is, where does it end? How many loyal customers of the salon, had booked that day, before the offer? Are they expected to give them all the offer and lose money? They are a business, not a charity. I would have perhaps offered some money off their next appointment as a gesture of goodwill, but they are well within their rights not to honour the deal, when she booked before it even existed.

I very much doubt they had loads of regular loyal customers book in the 2 hours or whatever before they posted the offer that then came in with their friend and watching them pay half the price for the same service on the same day. I don’t think there is scope for the slippery slope analogy you are trying to pose. If they are going to be financially ruined by too many people taking up the offer they shouldn’t offer it in the way they have.

realmsofglory · 17/01/2023 23:00

LookItsMeAgain · 17/01/2023 11:49

I'd baffle her with a bit of conversation:

You - So you're saying that I can't avail of the discount? If I had cancelled my booking and rebooked for the same date & time, but just after the offer was publicised, you're saying that I could have the discount, right?
Her - Well, yes
You - So how do you know that I didn't do that. Are you now saying that I didn't do that? Where is your proof that I didn't cancel my appointment and remake it for the same date and time but just after the offer was posted?
Her - Eh...emmmm.....what?
You - After seeing the offer, I cancelled my booking for X date at Y time and I remade the booking for the same date and time. Give me the discount or you lose a regular customer and I'll be contacting Trading Standards about your offer and I'll be letting all of my friends and colleagues know not to book or use your services. There is no "Start Time" specified on your offer, only an implied "End Time" (when January turns into February).
Her - <silence>

But that would be lying- she didn't cancel and rebook
Telling her to commit fraud is pretty shit advice

MrsMorrisey · 17/01/2023 23:00

Depends, if I had a good relationship with the hairdresser as I do mine ( small business) I'd be a bit put out but in a big salon I'd probably just be annoyed I missed a good deal.
Only you can decide if you want to go back.

Kittenmitten22 · 17/01/2023 23:03

Well then we shall agree to disagree! I have lot's of hairdresser friends and even my MIL, the majority of their customers are long term loyal customers. So the chances of her being the only loyal customer to book that day is slim.

Woopzies · 17/01/2023 23:03

Obviously you know it's a completely hypothetical scenario given the fact that, obviously, it occurred in the past?!

Not one person is arguing that it’s not well within the rights of the hairdresser to stick to the terms.

It’s also well within the rights of the customer to take their business elsewhere.

You can do whatever you feel is right. So can other people.

Kittenmitten22 · 17/01/2023 23:19

That we can agree on!

WetLettuce2 · 17/01/2023 23:51

I’d forgive them for not offering it, but not for not honouring it once I’d mentioned it to them.
Id be getting another Hairdresser.

Thesonglastslonger · 18/01/2023 00:07

I’d ask the manager to call you.

If a salon said they were doing 50% off bookings made that day I’d absolutely expect to get the discount. Is not like you booked the day/week before!

Tell the manager you thought the offer applied to you when you had your hair done and if it was only for bookings made in exact hours the advert should have said that. Point out that you brought a new customer with you and have been spending a fortune every 7 weeks but if they aren’t going to extend the deal to a regular customer then you feel ripped off and can’t come back.

Beachloveramy · 18/01/2023 06:03

If this was a new place and they’d offered a discount code then fair enough, but as a regular customer paying at the exact same time as your friend which they’d clearly be aware of, this was a very shitty thing for them to do.

Find somewhere else!

joycies · 29/06/2023 21:53

Point is qhen did your friend book? If itwS after the 50% deal was on offer then you arent being ripped off.
