Mine is set that it comes on if it drops below 13.

What's yours set at?

Hedjwitch · 17/01/2023 08:50

No heating overnight. Comes on at 7 for 2 hours then off again until evening.

greenacrylicpaint · 17/01/2023 08:55

it's set to 10 degrees but has only come on once during the cold snap before christmas.
we sleep with extea blanket(s) over duvet plus hot water bottles.

SanFairyAnnie · 17/01/2023 08:55

Used to be at 7 degrees but have reset it to 14 as it was taking too long to heat the house in the morning after a very cold night.

billy1966 · 17/01/2023 08:56

Older house and wouldn't ever occur to me to have the heat on at night.

The noise of the pipes would disturb us as it has when we have forgotten to turn it off going to bed.

We all have electric blankets, goose duvets so so super cosy.

I love a hot bed, cold room as i sleep better in it.

Bar freezing weather I love a window open too.

StuntNun · 17/01/2023 09:00

Once my house cools down to 15C it takes four hours to get up to 18C again so I have my heating set to 16C overnight. Otherwise it would be very cold in the morning. We also have two adults working from home most days so we can't just put up with cold mornings because the house will be empty all day.

Natsku · 17/01/2023 09:10

Don't have proper central heating, oil heating heats the kitchen and hallway but the rest of the house just has electric radiators.
The downstairs radiators are on all the time now, at 20 (but doesn't actually get to 20, thermometer shows around 18/19). I put the radiator in our bedroom to 20 at night but it actually only heats the room to 16 but that's enough for at night for us (I have two duvets on) and I have a plug in oil radiator in DS's room that I switch on at night and keeps his room around 17. DD refuses heating in her room so her radiator is off all the time.

bellabasset · 17/01/2023 09:24

Hive has set mine at 7•, it's 15• where the temperature control is based but cooler in other parts of the house. It's been snowing here in Cornwall and has laid

Leemoe · 17/01/2023 09:24

18.5 day or night.

PinkSyCo · 26/01/2023 21:41

BakedTattie · 16/01/2023 22:28

Nah, not really. It’s -4 outside (highlands) I’ve got the heating to come on at 18.

because I don’t want to freeze.

But why does the inside temperature of your house need to be warmer than mine in order to stop you freezing? 🤔

purpledalmation · 26/01/2023 22:08
  1. Never goes near that. Lowest I've seen around 15
Happygirl79 · 26/01/2023 23:01

I live alone and 70 this year. I can't afford to have my heating on overnight as I only have an income of 13k p a. I just go to bed and try to stay warm and survive

Margo34 · 26/01/2023 23:04

Thermostat will kick in if it drops below 16 (it hasn't happened yet).

Otherwise heating comes on a timer for an hour in the morning 630-730 and 2 hrs in the evening 5-7 (when the thermostat is set for 19).

catgirl1976 · 26/01/2023 23:09

We don’t have it on over night. We haven’t on maybe for an hour a day at the moment and the rest of the time it’s off

Happygirl79 · 26/01/2023 23:12

I walk twice a day once after breakfast and after lunch to help bring my temperature up. At 69 years of age its not easy but it's necessary to survive. My energy bill is averaging at £250 per month which is more than one third of my state pension. There is nothing left to cut back on. I live alone so there is no one else to help me. This government are all for themselves and are neglecting taxpayers. Yes, I am a taxpayer, despite only having an income of £13900 per annum. But our MPs are on a massive income plus taxpayers like me are paying for their energy bills and more. So disgraceful.

Neededanewuserhandle · 26/01/2023 23:14

Programmed at 15 overnight but it doesn't drop that low so doesn't come on.

middleager · 26/01/2023 23:19

It's switched off of a night. Comes on 6.30-8 then 4-8. We wfh in the day (a draughty 4/5bed) but we wear knock off Oodies and layers.

Same

I switch if off at 730 pm as everyone is In bed

Still have mine set to kick in at 18 overnight.. today it didn't kick in til 5.30am and used about a kwh an hour til I got up.
Definitely not rolling in cash though.

AzureOrchid · 26/01/2023 23:37

I have mine in manual I put it on 4-7 pm thsts about it
too expensive to have it on in mornings
we are over 400 a month gas and electric now even with this frugal use
We think it might be the old inefficient boiler , but we don’t have a spare 3 k to replace and fit a boiler so we are stuck with this old inefficient system
There will be many like us

I think this is quite patronizing tbh
I am extremely good with budgets and especially household budgets and to hear that some people just “ prioritize “ is actually sickening.
when the only priority is whether to heat the house for the kids or nothing else then that’s not prioritizing that’s just surviving.
For god sake it’s not a trend , prioritizing isn’t a game .

Well we are exactly the same but still our bills are astronomical
I suppose it’s all relative
our fuel bills are now more than 15% of our monthly income
If yours are not then - yes - you are being patronizing and also extremely out of touch with reality
( the fact you say you would rather heat your home than buy a bottle of wine etc )
