Men ARE in charge

do you ever think its better just to accept that men are in a position of being top dog and to let them just get on with it??

Maybe we should give up trying to get them to understand feminism and to allow them to take control , make the decisions and leave us be.

We could just enjoy ourselves and let them struggle , be who we want to be and let them deal with the major stuff. Doesn't sound bad to me!

Lol I only came on here to say isn't this how the haidmaids tale started?

100%!

No, because they would regularly do a shit job and it would impact me.

"Yay lets spend all the national budget on guns and warships!! Oh bugger no money left for schools...."

"No point training gynaecologists! Whoever used one of those."

"Lets just have sod all tax and everyone needs to bloody well work. We are not paying for a safety net".

Sounds like Thatcher!

GemJewels · 16/01/2023 23:27

@Prouddoggieparent they can and have stood up for themselves in an attack.
One was attacked by two young men while at university, who she managed to fight off without harm to herself, but for her years of training, she would have been in a sorry mess.
It can and does work, as you would realise had you have gained your Dans over the years yourself.
Anything that gives you a chance to either defend yourself or breakaway is worth doing as a female. Seriously.

FOJN · 16/01/2023 23:29

Maybe we should stop thinking men will ever understand feminism and try to make sure we encourage all women to see themselves as fully and equally human so that they don't think being treated as second class citizens is the natural order.

learieonthewildmoor · 17/01/2023 02:26

I know it’s a joke, OP, but Virginia Woolf thought about this too. She thought women should remain outsiders from men’s institutions.
I think she was wrong, though. If we want change, we have to bring it.

Men like Andrew Tate are seriously depressing. All these years of feminist women raising sons and we still get men who bitterly reject women’s autonomy. But they’re just the inevitable backlash. We have to believe it’s getting better for the girls being born.

newstart1234 · 17/01/2023 03:55

Um, no the opposite. More woman leaders at all levels would improve things.

@GemJewels May I please ask how you know I have not got my dans as you put it? You apparently show little knowledge of martial arts yourself.
I personally have studied martial arts to a very high level over nearly 30 years, with top instructors, including going to Japan to study. Whilst doing this I got my “dans” (your term).
Judo and Taekwondo are sports, that is why they are in the Olympics. The word “do” is Japanese for “the way of” as opposed to the word “jutsu” which means “the art of”.
Judo is the sport, jujutsu is the martial art.
I think it is great your daughter defended herself, honestly bravo. However she was lucky. Fighting two determined men is near impossible for anyone, however if they are two teenage students who are drunk maybe possible.
Love your girls have confidence but do not let that be overcooked and become a risk to themselves. Avoid first, run second, fight when zero other options and then fight to maim.

Like the Taliban?

The most perfect and succinct response to an OP I think I've ever seen on here!

Good morning. It's not something that I've personally studied or done myself. It's what my daughter's do 🙂

Dinodigger · 17/01/2023 06:36

Is this some kind of sick joke.

pompomdaisy · 17/01/2023 08:39

A bit thoughtless op. Hope there's no women on here who have fled from Afghanistan!

This ^^

But I don’t wish to be unkind, but I think most women who have, um, “got their dans” are well aware of that. You might be able to win lovely medals and have the most beautiful reverse turning kick, but it won’t help all that much if you’re 5’3” and facing a 15 stone six footer. Martial arts teach you how to see trouble before it starts and get clear of it, you won’t be transformed into Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I know women who have done seriously impressive stuff, but they are the exceptions who had been training and teaching for decades. And even they were up against feral teenagers, not grown men.

picklemewalnuts · 17/01/2023 21:10

The Furries in Ikea thread demonstrated to me that we don't want men in sole power. It went something like this:

"Men 'use bystanders in their sexual thoughts all the time'.

That means women have to stay away from serious business so they don't distract the menz.

Gay men can't do serious business because they'll be distracted by the menz. "

The patriarchy! Huzzah!

LoobyDop · 17/01/2023 21:17

@picklemewalnuts when you think through history it is utterly depressing and demoralising to realise just how many social norms were set up around men getting their rocks off, with a total lack of regard for the women and girls sacrificed to that end. It disgusts me, frankly, that they are the same species as us. And I wouldn’t even describe myself as a misandrist. I think about 30% of them are probably irredeemably vile, 10% are decent, and the rest are just weak and can’t be bothered because it doesn’t directly affect them.
