Next door neighbour wagging his rope about

Shouldisayorshouldino · 16/01/2023 15:26

I'm honestly going demnted and can't decide if I just need to suck it up because of the length of time, or if I should say something and nip it in the bud now.

Next door are detached from eachother but share a path each down the side of our gardens, each a gate width wide. Next door is into fitness and has installed one of them big whopping heavy ropes on their side, so about 1.5m max from our wall. He's wagging it about making a constant banging noise when he's using it. When we came home and first heard it I honestly thought someone was upstairs in our house going hell for leather in our bed! (Luckily DH was with me or I'd probably have ran up all guns blazing). Anyway he was at it twice yesterday latest being 7pm and he's at it again already today. I'm aware this is only the 3rd time, but the noise is so loud and repetitive it's already driving me up the wall!! Do I say something? Or am I being unreasonable?

Me too 😆

Tell him to go to the gym or build himself a soundproof one. I could be wrong but if he does all this nonsense in the garden there must be much grunting, or at least heavy breathing going on as well.

You're allowed to grunt in your own garden. 😃

Northernlass99 · 17/01/2023 17:22

He is doing the six pack revolution, I bet.
You can't do battle ropes for very long surely, its blinking hard work.

piedbeauty · 17/01/2023 17:26

That sounds as annoying as bouncing a basketball in a shared drive. Tell him how noisy it is and ask him to skip on the grass instead?

Google is your friend.

I have googled garden ropes and can’t find anything that fits the OP’s description.

EmmaDilemma5 · 17/01/2023 17:39

YABU. Unless it's all day everyday, it really isn't any of your business. Neighbours aren't silent, kids make noise, cars make noise, hobbies make noise. If you want silence, you need to live somewhere isolated.

Battle ropes will show you what the OP is describing! Basically heavy ropes you shake

Thank you. Didn’t see the word battle before.

I think I have seen a photo of JLO using these in a gym once so now I know what the post is about, thank you.

They just look like a gimmick to me!

Sweetnsourtoday · 17/01/2023 19:12

I was expecting something else when I saw this 😂

Recently there was a thread about the poo knife. I clicked on that and found out soon enough it wasn't what I thought it was.

It does make a loud noise, I saw someone in the gym doing it.

KangarooKenny · 17/01/2023 21:09

SpeckledlyHen · 17/01/2023 15:15

What's the point of this post exactly?🙄

I could say the same to you.

gravyriceandchips · 17/01/2023 21:58

Those ropes are heavy as fuck. How long is is doing them for?

Must be like 30 seconds rest 30 seconds rest and so on. Not saying it's not annoying though.

Can he move them somewhere else it won't be as noisy?

gravyriceandchips · 17/01/2023 21:59

Ask him if he wants to buy my clothes hangar/pelaton bike Confused

KangarooKenny · 16/01/2023 15:27

It’s better than weed smoke wafting into your garden/house.

There was thread on here op about edibles. I may or may not have told people how to make them.

Maybe bake sone low carb high protein ones and see if he likes them. He won't be playing with his ropes then Confused Joking and light hearted obviously

Throwncrumbs · 17/01/2023 22:42

Just watched that battle ropes video, hilarious… if my husband started playing with skipping ropes I would laugh my head off. It might be the new fad but it looks just weird. Ffs men and there hobbies😂

UsingChangeofName · 17/01/2023 22:57

They are nothing like skipping ropes.
They are very, very heavy.
Men and women both use them.
They have been around in gyms for a long time and present quite a challenge to most people to use.

Lopoem · 21/01/2023 19:06

@MissingMoominMamma I also thought this was going to be euphemism. Reminded me of a guy who used to live across the road from us who used to come out in his teeny tiny white dressing gown. He came out once when my Mum was visiting and we were having a good giggle. It was when he got his garden hose out and was watering the garden at a certain angle it finished both me and my Mum off.

Brevilletron1 · 21/01/2023 19:10

Take up the didgeridoo? Worked for me...put him upstairs right 'off his stroke'

When I saw the thread title, I thought it was a euphemism. I’m quite disappointed…

Not just me then?

GeorgianaMedowes · 21/01/2023 19:52

My thoughts exactly. Incidentally I did have a neighbour in university who “wagged his rope around” through the window for all five 19 year old girls in my house to see

They are. Been doing them for a few years and can only do 40 seconds before needing a rest. I wouldn't be trying to skip with the buggers, one of those things hit your ankles it would take your feet out underneath you. Grin

AnnieSnap · 21/01/2023 20:21

YANBU but neither am I about the hateful twat over my garden fence who has a passions for shrieking power tools. It’s not about him making something and then it’s done. It’s a daily torture. I sat down this morning in our garden room. The sun was shining, the birds were singing. I just had the thought “this is so lovely”, when the bastard started-up again. 🤬

Sadly, unless it’s a noise that goes on for some time over a certain decibel level, there is nothing that can be done.

Justbefair · 21/01/2023 21:05

Thing is, it's just limited time a couple of times a sat so not complaint worthy to council etc. Only thing you do is mention is to mention it to him as most likely he won't even be aware of the impact. My dh does the same but with no noise to neighbours, even with a small bac garden like ours it can be done. As with anything, got to address issues x

Same 🤣🤣🤣

mikeysmummy2004 · 22/01/2023 12:22

If it continues, you'll have to mention it otherwise it will drive you crazy. Some people are just plain inconsiderate to others. If they are reasonable, they will move the rope, or do something else less noisy. I really think people should consider their actions on their neighbours - and that goes for everyone. Dogs barking, kids screaming their heads off, garden parties, loud music, smokey bbqs, etc. We used to live next to a couple who insisted on living outdoors all through the summer, inviting friends over almost every day at all sorts of hours sitting outside inches away from our patio - it meant I couldn't enjoy my own garden reading a book cause they were always there, being very noisy. I couldn't even have my windows open they were so loud and intrusive, especially at night. On the rare occasion when they didn't have anyone over, they would sit outside eating their meals, enjoying the peace and quiet afforded to them by all the other neighbours. It just seemed so grossly unfair. Of course, part of the problem is that we're all squeezed into flats and housing estates with postage stamp sized gardens. If some people insist on being noisy, they should go to the park or the pub instead of annoying all the neighbours. Luckily, we don't live there any more and they were a big reason why we left.
