Next door neighbour wagging his rope about

Shouldisayorshouldino · 16/01/2023 15:26

I'm honestly going demnted and can't decide if I just need to suck it up because of the length of time, or if I should say something and nip it in the bud now.

Next door are detached from eachother but share a path each down the side of our gardens, each a gate width wide. Next door is into fitness and has installed one of them big whopping heavy ropes on their side, so about 1.5m max from our wall. He's wagging it about making a constant banging noise when he's using it. When we came home and first heard it I honestly thought someone was upstairs in our house going hell for leather in our bed! (Luckily DH was with me or I'd probably have ran up all guns blazing). Anyway he was at it twice yesterday latest being 7pm and he's at it again already today. I'm aware this is only the 3rd time, but the noise is so loud and repetitive it's already driving me up the wall!! Do I say something? Or am I being unreasonable?

It might be a new year fad. Give it two weeks and he might have got bored of it??

Came here to say this haha fingers crossed for you 🤞🏻

It’s better than weed smoke wafting into your garden/house.

What's the point of this post exactly?🙄

bigbluebus · 17/01/2023 15:16

They have these ropes at the gym I used to go to. They were on the 1st floor directly above the female toilets. It sounded like the ceiling was about to cave in if anyone was using them whilst I was in the loo!

Jaxhog · 17/01/2023 15:20

OMG! I used to use one of these on my deck and had no idea they were so annoying. I bet my neighbours were glad when I stopped. They never said anything though.

When I saw the thread title, I thought it was a euphemism. I’m quite disappointed…

Me too 😁

Patineur · 17/01/2023 15:22

Would it help to ask him to move the rope further away from your house, maybe to the other end of the garden or on the other side?

Same!! ( sorry that’s not helpful though)

Anyone else came on out of curiosity about the nature of the title 😉😅

Me! 🤣

SnarkyBag · 17/01/2023 15:42

God that would drive me batshit!! One of the reasons I’ve just moved was because of the constant sound of the neighbours basketball. It made me murderous! I have no immediate neighbours now and it’s bliss!

Annonymiss123 · 17/01/2023 15:43

And me! 🤣

RachelGreeneGreep · 17/01/2023 15:45

YANBU, those ropes are bloody noisy.
I would definitely ask politely if he could move it.

Teaandtoast3 · 17/01/2023 15:48

Yes I also thought it was a euphemism 😆

NapoliTutti · 17/01/2023 15:58

Most people can only keep that up for less than 60 seconds so even if he was doing that a couple of times a day (in his own garden) I don’t see that he’s doing any harm at all. YABU

Floogal · 17/01/2023 16:05

OP, just try and compromise and agree on convenient time. Or, if you can't beat him, join him and ask if you can have a go on the battle ropes. Just lean back slightly when you use it

Damnit now I’ve got that scene from the Blues Brothers and “Rawhide” going round and round in my head.

I'm going to have to watch that film now.

I'm quite disappointed - I thought this was going to be about extreme exhibitionism! 😆

For a second there I wondered whether OP lives next door to Haz and Meg.

Laiste · 17/01/2023 16:16

45 mins?!!? of doing that that the bloke in the video is doing?

Bloody hell he must be fit!

Do as you would with any other noisy thing a neighbour might do outside:

Ask if they can do it further from the house.
Ask if they could keep it down to (chose acceptable amount) of minutes/time of day.

Came here for penis. Seriously disappointed.

We've all been there love.

TurtleTriplets · 17/01/2023 16:36

It must be him and his partner having a go, surely no one would do two circuit work outs so close together!

I am sure if you have a baby in the house you have done your fair share of disturbing them though, and likely at less convenient times!

oakleaffy · 17/01/2023 16:43

@Shouldisayorshouldino
I haven’t heard of these, so had to Google .
It says they are NOISY.

Sometimes I whip the hoover flex against the wooden floor and it makes a huge noise, so goodness knows how loud these massive ropes will be, hitting the floor constantly.

Maybe say something?

Tamarindtree · 17/01/2023 16:43

I have no idea what this is about? What is this large rope and why would he be banging it?

Please can someone provide a picture as you all know what the op is talking about and I have absolutely no idea! 😂

Google is your friend.

ClaudiaWankleman · 17/01/2023 16:46

Personally I think he's being reasonable to use the rope for less than an hour at a time. I think just because you find it annoying, it doesn't make the act unreasonable.

Lucky you!
Basketball is really annoying
ditto trampolines and drums- and barking dogs. -Not forgetting screeching children.

category12 · 17/01/2023 16:50

Maybe I'm naive but how long is he actually going to spend using the ropes per day? Half an hour? As long as it's not at properly antisocial hours like really early morning or late at night, he's not doing anything wrong.

If it's possible to move it further away or do it at times less likely to bother you, no harm in asking, I suppose.
