What is your bmi if you feel slim?

Just that really! I have been losing weight since September and am down down to a bmi of 26, i.e almost in the healthy range. But I still have a lot of visible body fat. Anyone else have experience of this? Maybe it's more toning I need.

I've only managed to get down to the very top edge of the "healthy" range once. I'm 6 foot, I was a size 10, and I looked haggard. I felt tired and weak.

When I'm at a BMI of about 27, and a size 12, I look healthy and slim, and I feel it. Loads of energy, smashing PRs at the gym. But the BMI calculator says this is overweight and I need to lose weight.

LaLuz7 · 12/01/2023 10:03

I feel slim and sexy at BMI 20 and. I'm at 21.6 right now, carrying 3 extra pandemic kg and I know i am objectively small but i feel chubby and untoned. On a 1.55 m frame.

TheFlis12345 · 12/01/2023 10:04

I’m 5”8 and size 10, BMI is 21.

Montague22 · 12/01/2023 10:04

Mine is 20-21 I’m tall but have a slim frame. I don’t feel like ‘me’ any bigger eg after babies. I’ve reverted to shape each time after about 9 months. My lowest is about 19.5, I don’t think I should go below that, but I’m happy at that.

SleepyRooster · 12/01/2023 10:07

BMI 22, feel a bit chunky and swollen. I'm tall so always look "big"
I know that's not what you asked!

Purpleavocado · 12/01/2023 10:07

When I was young it was 19 and I was quite skinny. Now it's 24 and I think I need to lose weight from my midsection. My bodyfat is too high according to my watch. Someone said 21 was ideal on here before, and I think that's probably right.

lifter · 12/01/2023 10:08

18/19

I think it looks different on people of different builds as well as heights.

Snoken · 12/01/2023 10:15

My bmi is 21.5, I'd like to be 20.5. I feel slim with clothes on, but not without at the moment.

itssquidstella · 12/01/2023 10:21

I’m 5'11" and feel best with a BMI of 20-21. The more toned I am, the thinner and 'better' I look and feel.

No idea what my BMI is currently, because I had a baby seven months ago and haven't weighed myself since, but I'm happy with how I look except for my stomach, which is still a bit flaccid. It's okay in clothes, though!

JudgeRudy · 12/01/2023 10:24

I wouldn't rely on BMI as a way of assessing my physique. How tall are you? Half that and that's a reasonable waist measurement. Depending on your muscle to fat ratio you could still be carrying excess fat.
Remind yourself that if you were carrying excess weight and have lost some, even if you're not your target weight it's still a win.

siroodlesofnoodles · 12/01/2023 10:27

My BMI is 21.5.

I only look slim at around 19.

I was fat at BMI 25.

SeenAndNot · 12/01/2023 10:29

I’m 5’11 and honestly below BMI of about 24 I look ill. I’ve been everywhere between BMI 13 and 36 (eating disorder) and honestly around 26 is where I look and feel best.

Every body is different, BMI is a guide and not very accurate imo. You’ve lost weight - focus now on core strength and exercise.

OceanbreezeSun · 12/01/2023 10:37

I felt and looked my best when I had a bmi of 22/23.
I’m 5’6 (and a half!) and was wearing size 10/12 clothing.

I’d like to get back to that eventually, baby #2 due shortly, so not in any rush but it’s a goal!

RinklyRomaine · 12/01/2023 10:38

This is interesting. Mine is 26, I'd say I'm a stone overweight. I'm hourglass like some PP and probably at my best at about 23. Any less than that is horsey.

LaLuz7 · 12/01/2023 10:39

I don't think that's a good rule of thumb. I'm 1.55 m, so half my height is 30.5 inches.

I would look very plump with a 30 inch waist. Fat actually.

I currently have a 26 inch waist at a 21.6 BMI and I wouldn't say I look truly slim at this size. Ideal would be 24 inches.

Yarrawonga · 12/01/2023 10:43

I agree. It might be acceptable health wise, but it would make me look like a vertical sausage.

AnOldieButAGoodie · 12/01/2023 10:44

I'm 5'4 and start to feel slim at a BMI of 20. I'm 19.5 right now

vivainsomnia · 12/01/2023 10:48

BMI of 21.5. Would like to be 19. I'm very small.bonrs though. I'm not so interested in BMI as I am body fat. I'm 27 currently which post menopause is not bad but I want to be under 25 ideally.

Mitfordian · 12/01/2023 10:55

This thread just shows a huge variation in body shape. I'm 5ft 11 and BMI 19. Probably a bit on the skinny side (look thinner naked than in clothes) I wear a size 8-10. Someone who was also tall suggested that they would be a size 8 at a much higher BMI.

I have always been slim but I don't feel strong right now.

Howabsolutelyfanfuckingtastic · 12/01/2023 10:58

My bmi is 17.2 and i feel slim. If i go to 20 i don't feel happy with myself. My bmi hovers between 16.4 and 17.2, I am only just over 5ft though. I'm a size 4/6 and actively try to keep my weight around 6 stone or i feel really bad about myself. I think weight and bmi will be different for everyone as we all have different builds, metabolisms and body types.

Help14235 · 12/01/2023 10:58

Mines 17.2 with no eating disorder but I eat all the time I still have abit of fat on my hips and don’t excercise I don’t feel underweight. I’d love to build up muscle and gain weight but I’m too lazy.

Help14235 · 12/01/2023 10:59

I’m 5 ft 8 and 8 stone 2

Help14235 · 12/01/2023 11:01

@Howabsolutelyfanfuckingtastic

do you feel and symptoms of being underweight? I notice I feel the cold so severely. And do you get comments from people about your weight?

Waist size does depend on body shape though. My waist is 29/30 with a BMI of 20 and even when younger when I had a BMI of 17/18 (underweight), my waist was never below 28. I’m just very straight up and down.

curlymacv · 12/01/2023 11:13

I'm 5'6 ish and my BMI is about 24. Feels pretty chunky to me and I'm much happier weighing about 5kg less and sitting around 22. I do however have a very wide hipped big chest body shape which means it's not the end of the world to carry a bit extra, just annoys me when the boobs get too big
