To buy a load of Prime drinks?

Dowhahdiddy · 11/01/2023 22:42

I’m currently abroad and those Prime drinks that everyone is going gaga over in the UK for, are easily available here and only £1.40 a bottle. AIBU to buy a boatload and sell them all on eBay when I get back to the UK next week? I’ve seen people selling empty bottles for £50 each on eBay!! I think it’s ridiculous that people are paying those prices but, I wouldn’t be forcing anyone to buy them, I’d just stick them into auction and people can pay whatever they’re willing to pay. A fool and their money and all that? Should I cash in whilst I can?

OP posts:

I personally find the whole Prime craze unethical & opportunistic. I saw (filled/full) bottles being sold on eBay and Etsy in the run up to Xmas for £20 each. The marketing targets children and parents desperate to pamper their children. At a time when households are dealing with crippling inflation, rise in energy bills, huge rise in food costs, and 4 million children are going to school hungry, I find the whole thing unbelievable.

Personally, I wouldn’t do it for money to encourage or take advantage of this craze. It’s a fad, it’ll soon fade, and I want no hand in it weighing on my conscience.

But you’re hoping they won’t say no and that’s the point isn’t it? You’re not forcing anyone to, no, but you’re missing the point. Some parents will go to lengths to see their kid smile.

I hope they smash in your bag 🤣 I can’t stand greed.

Amen to this!

MilkyYay · 12/01/2023 07:17

My niece is 13 & little miss popular. Had her mum queuing in supermarkets for prime.

She is no longer interested. You can get it anywhere now.

Yaaaaay capitalism 🫥

My thoughts exactly.

Cosycover · 12/01/2023 07:23

I bought one for £15 off ebay for Mt sons Christmas. He hasn't asked for another as it is vile.

BlusteryLake · 12/01/2023 07:23

You sound awful OP. Your posts are dripping with disrespect for the people you are expecting to buy your exploitative wares. I hope you buy loads and end up selling them at a loss.

Coconut212 · 12/01/2023 07:25

Really easy to get now, local spar selling for £2. It’s the cans that are impossible to get

RichardMarxisinnocent · 12/01/2023 07:27

mrsbyers · 11/01/2023 23:01

How are you going to get them back ? Liquids are banned in hand luggage and there’s a weight restriction on checked luggage

Maybe the OP is travelling by train not plane?

RichardMarxisinnocent · 12/01/2023 07:30

Just RTFT and the OP is travelling by plane and has room in their hold luggage which many people will as they take hand luggage only.

That said, it doesn't feel to me like a good thing to be doing, it seem unethical and greedy.

How is that any different when supermarkets sell same products at different prices from each other ?

OP cannot control what supermarkets chose to sell their products at. They can however get a conscience and choose not to exploit people.

dementedpixie · 12/01/2023 07:42

Think UK is only selling a few flavours so if you find a flavour not on sale here then you'd be likely to get a higher price here.

I think they are a ridiculous price for a drink that is basically water and coconut water with some flavourings and artificial sweeteners

Forestwalks · 12/01/2023 07:51

Think you have missed the boat tbh.
They are suddenly everywhere here. Petrol garage down the road has loads.
kids have stopped selling them in our school to each other. Many got them for Christmas so are not fussed at all now.
Seems they have already moved on to the next thing…

CreepyDibillo · 12/01/2023 07:56

I think you've missed the boat now I'm afraid. It was difficult to get hold of on the run up to Christmas but very readily available now, at least where I live. Some kids are still going nuts over it but lots have already 'seen the light', certainly in my DC's friendship groups.

GivenchyDahhling · 12/01/2023 07:59

Seems like there are much easier ways to make money to me.

Don’t forget PayPal fees - if you list them and are at a loss or break even if/when they sell, you’ll have to pay 10% of the price as a fee.

You obviously can’t value your time that much as you’ll have to package (also a cost involved) and take to the post office, possibly queue etc.

eBay is a scammers paradise and I would have thought the overlap on the Venn diagram of people who claim an item isn’t received/as described as a scam and people who overpay for trendy energy drink is probably quite large.

But good luck with it!

Lucky you.

Yep true.

Depends how you usually make money. Lots of people who value their time have to do boring stuff.

I buy loads of stuff on ebay. I prefer buying 2nd hand. Do you buy much?

But good luck with it!*

Tbh these posts are dripping with condescension. We are exploited on a daily basis when we buy stuff. And we all support that system.

How much do you think that branded item 'really' costs to make?

Or that bag? Or shoes?

If OP can make a few £ from selling a few bottles of whatnot good luck to her.

Hopefully there's a Prime chasing kid somewhere who'll have a moment of excitement for whatever ridiculous reason. See every other kids craze forever.

Nogbreaks · 12/01/2023 08:14

Go for it, buy into the hype of buying a really shitty drink that rip of kids , and makes some. Useless YouTuber a millionaire.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 12/01/2023 08:16

It's utterly immoral, and I would probably do it .

It's people like you who are the problem. Scalping isn't cute

Wonnle · 12/01/2023 08:20

At least you can buy Prime , has anyone seen Rich Energy for sale anywhere ?

They are a sponsor of a motor racing teams , but the product is seeming not available to buy

sunglassesonthetable · 12/01/2023 08:20

It's people like you who are the problem.

OP is so not " the problem ".

shrunkenhead · 12/01/2023 08:24

I wouldn't go too mad as the hype will die off soon. My dd currently sells them to gullible Yr7s for £5. Alan Sugar would be proud.🙄

willithappen · 12/01/2023 08:24

Yes they are. The reason it's hard to find is because of people like OP scalping and buying in bulk.

tigger1001 · 12/01/2023 08:24

Do it if you want to and have the time.

But be aware it's much easier to get hold of than it was, and once it's easily bought kids will move on to something else.

My son was given a bottle last week (as I say much easier to get hold of and lots of shops seem to have it). He wasn't impressed with it. I've told them I wouldn't buy it for any more than the retail price and explained that it's all a marketing gimmick- make it seem scarce and low and behold everyone wants it, despite other energy drinks being available.
