Im shocked. I've been trying to eat 5 fruit and veg per day to improve my general health only to realise peas don't count!

I did a bing search, similar to google, and came up with this:

A US study found that canned peas did not offer the benefits associated with eating fruit and veg. It did not look at fresh or frozen peas.

Here’s a crappy daily Mail article that explains it (badly, but I can’t be bothered googling for anything better): www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-9311939/Scientists-revealed-right-five-day-combination.html

You can count peas or sweet corn as one of your 5 a day if you want but they are high in sugar and don’t have that many nutrients although they have fibre.

Research has shown peas and sweetcorn are not associated with reduction of risk of death. Ie if you want to increase your life expectancy you should choose more nutritious vegetables. 10 a day for maximum benefit.

I wouldn't worry because peas are very nutritious: www.healthline.com/nutrition/green-peas-are-healthy

I don’t know what list you are looking at, but three heaped tablespoons of peas is classed a one portion of your five a day
