Drinking Water

To not be able to understand people that don't drink mineral water.
To be put off by those that drink other things. Excluding coffee/ tea alcohol sometimes.

I hate fruit juice so I find it difficult to be compatible with those that drink it.
Am I weird that I want to be friends/ date someone that also only likes mineral water and never mixes it?

That's weird, sorry.

People have different tastes and that's just the way it is.

DH love mushrooms and tomatoes, I hate them. Some of my friends are vegetarians and eat lots of pulses, I gag on a lentil curry.

But I still love them.

Does anyone understand about having a preference when having a close relationship or even close friendship.
Eg it's nice when you both drink the same things.
Are you allowed to be put off by someone drinking something you dislike ...
Some drinks smell bad to me. I have a strong sense of smell.

I can understand someone rejecting someone on the basis of incompatible music tastes or something else you inflict upon other people in the same room. I can't for the life of me work out why someone would reject someone on the basis of what they drink. It doesn't affect you - I don't like the smell of coffee but I manage that by not going and sniffing other people's drinks.

This site does attract its far share of the chronically bewildered.

😁

Just was a bit confusing as you said mineral water, but meant just water.

I do agree that I find it really odd when people say they dislike water - it’s a bit like saying you don’t like air isn’t it?

I mostly only drink water, tea and wine. That’s surely all that’s needed? 😂 Tap water though.

My Mum says “oh I can’t drink water” and I just think wtf? You can, you’ve just decided to have something else. You’re literally made up of mostly water.

Personally it is beyond my comprehension why people do not exclusively drink from mountain streams. If I know, or even suspect, that any of my acquaintances, friends or family do otherwise I immediately cut them off. All my close relatives have been excluded from my will for this reason alone.

What a ridiculous thread but okay, I'll bite. Here's a crash course in neurodivergent aversions:

I'm autistic and plain water makes me feel sick. In fact, most still drinks feel terrible in my mouth. I live in central Scotland where the water is known for being amazing but it always feels like there's a hair in it to me. Bottled water tastes milky, like I can taste every mineral. My mum says I've been the same since I was a toddler; she spent years following me around with a cup and worrying that I didn't drink enough.

Many autistic people struggle with interoception, which is the ability to recognise and interpret your body's signals. This means I rarely realise when I'm thirsty (or hungry, or that I need the toilet, etc) and, if I do, water doesn't quench my thirst at all. It makes me gag.

As an aside, there's an argument that preference for fizzy drinks/crunchy food is a type of stimming - it's a sensory experience.

But at least we'll never be friends so I won't have to share my iced coffee or diet Fanta. Thankfully my 3-litres-of-water-a-day DH still loves me!

My DD2 (who is 25) isn't fond of water but will drink it if there is no choice. She prefers squash. She is a lovely girl and her boyfriend seems to like her regardless which is a relief. I wouldn't like her to be shunned because of her weird squash drinking ways!

I got 747 at guess 2 and have some words related to that lower down but I can't make the leap to what the higher words might be.

Sorry. Wrong thread!

I drink water plus other drinks at home but I really don't like Mancunian water.

Frankly, yes that's weird.
I'm guessing maybe you're on the spectrum?

The last time I was in the UK in 2019 I was at my family home. There was no way I was going to drink the tap water as it smelled far too much of chlorine.
I brought a crate of water from "home" and augmented with mineral water.
Fine for a shower or to flush the loo, but not to go into my body.

My mum never drinks water, only Diet Coke, coffee or tea. I've never known her to drink water in my whole life, she hates it. she doesn't drink alcohol either. You wouldn't like her 😄

I have a friend who has never drunk milk, even as a baby. She also won't drink water unless it's fizzy. TBH I think she thinks she deserves better than plain water.

This is true. I was only away for 2 weeks drinking bottled water. First time back the UK water tasted of bleach - or Chlorine as you say most probably. It's strange what you get used to.
