To find Michael Mosley annoying

I can’t stand him. He seems too patronising and slimey.
He and his wife are money grabbing.
He invents a new part of his diet every year to try to sell more books when they’re all a rehash of the last. 5-2 /sugar free/clever guts/ new 5-2/ fast 800/fast 800 easy/fast 800 Keto. The Keto recipe book by his wife has some meals where a portion is over 20g of carb - that’s not Keto. He’s always saying not to have sweetener yet it’s in his milkshakes. He says about processed foods and then brings out a processed powdered mushroom soup. Now it’s diet season he’s bloody everywhere. Am I the only one who doesn’t like him?

I agree with you @Flamingopinko and sometimes I find myself thinking that he states the bloody obvious!

Spanielsarepainless · 09/01/2023 12:41

I find his voice creepy. Nearly as bad as Chris Packham.

If you have Radio 4 on a lot, then he seems ubiquitous. Some of us have Radio 4 on. A lot.

I have Radio 4 fairly often, they have some great comedy for instance, but if they kept wheeling out the same experts I'd stop listening to that particular show.

Wintercurrentbun · 09/01/2023 13:57

YANBU, he’s an absolute arsehole along with the entire ‘diet culture’ tribe of cunts.

Stellaris22 · 09/01/2023 11:06

Can't stand him, every year he has a 'diet' to promote in the Daily Mail.

Correction: Can't stand him, every week he has a 'diet' to promote in the Daily Mail. (And the Daily Express is even worse.)

When he first started appearing on tv and in the press I thought he had something interesting to say. Now it's just yawn.

Flamingopinko · 09/01/2023 15:16

The PP who said about his voice. I didn’t want to be that personal but yes I absolutely HATE his voice and he’s very patronising.

I don’t think he ever actually worked as a dr, went straight into journalism. It seems relentless, he must have made serious money, now his wife has joined in.

yikesanotherbooboo · 09/01/2023 15:41

I think that he has been a force for good . Bringing IF to the public's consciousness and making people realise that significant weight loss and reversal of diabetes are possible must be a good thing. I think that he is a good communicator on health issues. People buy his books and some of them subsequently have significant health benefits. He and his wife have profited but it doesn't take away any good done.

LindorDoubleChoc · 09/01/2023 15:45

Yanbu. I quite liked him back in 2012 with the 5:2 diet thing. But since then he has become utterly ubiquitous (much like prof Winston before him) and now I instantly switch off or scroll on by.

And I agree ... how much money does he want to milk out of people's weight problems? Nasty.

DillDanding · 09/01/2023 15:47

I have been doing his fast 800 keto for exactly 7 days and I am 8 pounds down. But - he does promote his stuff on the Daily Mail, so is fair game if anyone wants to hate him.

@DillDanding - that's great but honestly, it isn't sustainable. The early rapid weight loss in keto is mainly water retention - still lovely to lose it and to feel that impetus. But long term, it slows down and the restrictions become tough to stick with. Losing weight that quickly usually results in weight gain as soon as the starvation period is over.

Isn't he touting crash dieting under a new name? Which historically is proven to lead to greater weight gain long term because it promotes extreme, unsustainable eating habits. I have a friend who loves MM. She loses weight very quickly on his regime and then puts it all back on and more. Every time I see her she's either lost weight or heavier than she was at her previous heaviest weight.

DillDanding · 09/01/2023 16:20

I don’t think I’d do it if I was overweight as I couldn’t do it long term.

But I piled on 7lbs over Christmas and was impatient to get back to my happy weight.

Having said that, it seems a good way to diet as you are never hungry 🤷‍♀️

MM says it reduces blood sugar, blood pressure and inflammation. But maybe losing weight any way dies this? I’m no expert.

As a short term way to lose weight that was quickly gained over the holidays, I'm sure it's fine. But probably not as a long term plan.

Flamingopinko · 11/01/2023 10:34

As if I hadn’t seen enough of his smug face! This pops up on my Facebook 😡
And honestly, a theatre show?! Wtf?

You are right he is everywhere! He must be raking it in.

PowerVandhana1986 · 07/10/2023 01:56

No man.

mrodent · 08/11/2023 08:55

Loathe him. Calls himself a "doctor" but (according to Private Eye) he hasn't in fact practised for decades. Endless crappy repetitive books bought by mugs.
Radio4 has many deeply irritating programmes, but somehow Just One Thing manages to be in a class of its own.
He's constantly banging on about how to improve your health and live longer, but the irony is that he has a real old codger's voice, despite only being, at the time of writing 2023, 66.

Jellycats4life · 08/11/2023 08:58

That was my understanding too. He graduated from his medical degree but never actually worked as a doctor.

bombastix · 08/11/2023 09:01

He is annoying but some of the messages are useful. So long as you don't buy anything! The latest thing is cereal bars. I'm not sure how healthy those are but it will be part of balanced diet and definitely not UPF...

friendlyflicka · 08/11/2023 09:07

I am so glad someone else agrees. I find him infuriating. I actually googled 'Michael Mosley annoying' last year because I was sure it was a popular opinion. It wasn't...

It was the Just One Thing on R4 that tipped me over the edge. It is his patronising, encouraging manner I can't stand.

bombastix · 08/11/2023 09:09

We call him Michael Muesli in our house.

"Do you know that fifteen bowls on Muesli on a Tuesday could extend your life by 35 seconds? I'm Michael Muesli, and this is Just One Thing".

Bluevelvetsofa · 08/11/2023 09:15

We did the 5-2 when he and Mimi ? started it. It worked and I do a version now from time to time, but he is so obviously in it for the money, that I can’t bear him. I agree about the voice too. I don’t be,I eve he does any of it to improve the health of the nation, he just finds different ways to say the same thing and persuade more people to part with their money to line his pockets.

Busephalus · 08/11/2023 09:20

Didn't he reverse his diabetes, the condition his dad died from. Isnt that a good thing to try and improve the over all health of fellow human beings, and good for nhs

ThinWomansBrain · 08/11/2023 09:24

I did his blood sugar diet shortly after it first came out, there was a very active (and free) forum, absolutely no pressure to buy the books, I lost quite a lot of weight, so overall I have quite a lot of tolerance.
Some of the Radio 4 series I find a bit preachy - but every now and then there's one that chimes with me.

No different to any other celebrity author who rehashes the same stuff over and over again No one forces you to buy them.
