Rutger Hauer in Bladerunner, menacing and scary!

Alan Rickman as Snape/in Die Hard, the sheriff of Nottingham (I may be biased, I think he was amazing in most things)

Bruce Willis in Die Hard, just the right amount of snarky humour.

Gary Oldman as Sirius Black.

Do you have any ‘bang on’ castings?

Robert Duvall as Tom Hagen from The Godfather . Although the physical description is somewhat different from the book, where Tom is described as tall and very slender, he captured Tom's personality so perfectly. The whole cast was fantastic but Duvall is my favourite.

Robert Duvall again as Kilgore in Apocalypse Now.

David Morse as Brutal/Brutus from The Green Mile but again, they're all great.

Claude Rains as Captain Renault in Casablanca.

Daniel Auteuil in The Girl On The Bridge(And pretty much anything else)

Ralph Fiennes in The English Patient, In Bruges and Schindler's List.

Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch.

Vitriolinsanity · 07/01/2023 20:40

Joanna Lumley as Amanda's Mum in Motherland. Genius!

MissBattleaxe · 07/01/2023 20:54

Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby. Nobody else in the world could have done it better. He is mesmerizing.

Randomness12 · 07/01/2023 20:55

Miranda as Chummy in Call The Midwife, genius. Exactly as I imagined her from the book.

CruCru · 07/01/2023 20:56

Ann Dowd as Aunt Lydia

Randomness12 · 07/01/2023 20:56

Also David Suchet as Poirot, fantastic.

BrokeAsABone · 07/01/2023 20:56

The kid who played the AntiChrist Damien, in Damien: Omen 2.

That kid was born to play that role.

SirCumference · 07/01/2023 20:58

Sarah Lancashire as Catherine Cawood in Happy Valley. Just brilliant.

bellamountain · 07/01/2023 21:00

My vote too as well as Joan Hickson for Miss Marple

TeaAndThenMoreTea · 07/01/2023 21:06

Dominic West as McNulty (and pretty much every other character too if Im honest)

LadyKenya · 07/01/2023 21:07

Yes Jonathan Scott Taylor was excellent in Omen 2. Christopher Reeve was the ultimate Superman imo. Elizabeth Hartman was sublime in A Patch Of Blue.

Scroogette · 07/01/2023 21:15

Giancarlo Esposito as Gus Fring in Breaking Bad & Better Call Saul.

Giancarlo Esposito as Gus Fring in Breaking Bad & Better Call Saul.

He's now in kaleidoscope on Netflix, it's great to see watch him again.

The man who played the killer in the lovely bones I can’t remember his name

XelaM · 07/01/2023 21:28

Vivien Leigh as Scarlett O'Hara in Gone with the wind - it's as if the novel was written for her!

Marlon Brando as Stanley Kowalski in Streetcar named desire - best performance by a male actor ever.

Teacakexo · 07/01/2023 21:29

James Caan as Santino Corleone in The Godfather - I loved loved loved Santino!

Catherine Zeta Jones as Mariette Larkin. I find it impossible to read the books without picturing her in the role.

ghostyslovesheets · 07/01/2023 21:34

Jason Isaacs as Jackson Brodie in Case Histories

MeghanThyStallion · 07/01/2023 21:35

The whole cast of the 1996 Matilda film. Absolutely brilliant, even if the film itself strayed from the book.

Hugh Grant in anything where he plays himself.

Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn and Cate Blanchett as Galadriel in LoTR.

Needhelp101 · 07/01/2023 21:35

Yes to David Suchet as Poirot and Joan Hickson as Miss Marple. Makes Kenneth Branagh seem like the travesty he was (as Poirot, obviously 😁)

Yes to Joanna Lumley as Amanda's mum in Motherland. Poisonously good.

Rosamund Pike as Amy in Gone Girl. Actually, also Ben Affleck as Nick.

David Tennant and Michael Sheen as, respectively, Crowley and Azphraele (sp?) in Good Omens. The whole of that series was perfectly cast.
