To not be able to stop thinking about the Idaho murder case

Is anyone else following this case? It’s absolutely horrible and has really scared me to the point of locking my bedroom door when I sleep every night! The more that comes out in the news, the more bizarre and confusing the case seems to get too. So scary to think what people are capable of 😞

I read that police weren’t contacted for 8 hours? Is this true, if so, why not?

Yes the surviving room mates didn’t call 911 until 11:58am the next day.

FartOutLoudDay · 07/01/2023 21:12

Been discussed earlier on the thread - very young roommate, potentially under the influence (underage), in a party house where people were coming and going, including deliveries being made at 4am, with some roommates still being awake (as far as she knew), some mention that she already suffers PTSD from previous trauma, not sure what she saw, dark corridor, goes to bed at 4ish assuming everyone is now asleep and doesn’t wake up until late morning at which point the police are called (there’s a bit of confusion about who makes the 911 call, it hasn’t been released, but may have been a neighbour or friend of the housemate and not the housemate herself). I’m sure the defence will tear her apart on the stand for it but there are several potential rational explanations for the delay.

So all your knowledge of how Americans "tend" to do things is learned from films? Should I start using films to judge how British people tend to behave?
You think only people in "Downtown Detroit" and "The Bronx" lock their doors?
You're hilarious (and I do wonder why you chose those two locations, hmmm)

That made me laugh too, so cliched 😂

MynameisJune · 07/01/2023 21:16

From what has been released it doesn’t say she heard screams etc, so she saw a guy in the house but for all she knew it was someone else’s guest who was leaving. At no point (as far as we know) did she see or hear anything that would suggest 4 of her friends had just been murdered. And it’s not like that’s the first thing you’d think of. The house was a party house, people were always coming and going.

musicforthesoul · 07/01/2023 21:20

I feel so sorry for the surviving flatmates, especially the girl that saw him. The survivors guilt must be horrendous.

Everyone is analysing her actions with the knowledge that 4 people were killed, she would have had no idea at that point. She'd heard a couple of noises (not unusual in a student house) and saw a guy who initially freaked her out so she froze. No indication she saw a weapon or heard any screams. She probably rationalised it to herself soon after he went that she was just being paranoid and he was just someone's mate/one night stand on his way out.

Doubt that poor girl had any idea of the true horror until she woke up in the morning.

Someo · 07/01/2023 21:21

Yes apparently she said she thought she heard Kayleigh playing with her dog which obviously wouldn't raise alarm.

I feel for her. We all think we know how we'd act in a situation like that but we really don't. She's been accused of all sorts as have many others.

I've been listening to a podcast that is following this. A search of his phone record showed him to be in the area I think it was 14 times in the period leading up to the murders. So he was definitely staking out the place.

@NotAnotherBathBomb Can you please tell me what the podcast is called? Thanks.

FartOutLoudDay · 07/01/2023 21:37

Just came across a really excellent point elsewhere - the victims and roommates are of an age where they will have had active shooter drills at school, which is all about locking doors, staying quiet and out of sight. Assuming it played out as described in the affidavit, that could have been a factor in how the roommate reacted.

BethDuttonsTwin · 07/01/2023 21:38

Aurorabored · 07/01/2023 17:58

What a surprise it’s on Tattle.

It’s on here too, as are you…

FangedFrisbee · 07/01/2023 21:45

@StaunchMomma goingWest is a good one. They did an original version in November or early December and then an update version last night

Oneofthosenothingdays · 07/01/2023 21:48

And is it true he came back in the morning? When?

Someo · 07/01/2023 21:49

I think I read his phone was tracked there at around 9 9.30?

FartOutLoudDay · 07/01/2023 21:50

Oneofthosenothingdays · 07/01/2023 21:48

And is it true he came back in the morning? When?

About 9am, but I think he drove by, didn’t approach the house on foot

Oneofthosenothingdays · 07/01/2023 21:55

Thank god he didn’t realise the other girl was still there, he must’ve been wondering where the police were etc

smileyeye · 07/01/2023 21:57

RitaFires · 07/01/2023 20:45

The affidavit is absolutely chilling, in the prior reports I'd seen they said nobody saw anything and everyone was asleep. To find out a surviving roommate had heard them say there was somebody in the house and then later saw the killer leaving is so shocking. I feel really horrible for the roommate, people don't always act logically under stress but to not alert the authorities for hours is quite extreme.

Wasn't the knife standard issue from the Marines? He may have left the sheath intentionally as a red herring.

She was drunk, it was a party house (friends and party friends coming and going), and they were all involved with Greek socs. There isn't a similar culture at uk unis, but all sorts of weird shit goes on in them, prankings and fake kidnapping etc.

I feel like Dylan is getting harshly judged for not calling the police immediately. She was drunk and probably passed out, didn't know who she'd seen, and by all accounts uni houses had other parties coming and going.

She didn't just go to sleep with the knowledge there had been murders.

AmazonianAvatar · 07/01/2023 21:58

TBH when I first heard about this case, I thought it was shocking but with both survivors rooms being initially reported to be in the basement and people saying because of the layout, they wouldn’t have heard anything, and also being under the impression the 4 victims were all heavily asleep after possibly drinking, it kind of made sense.

Even more shocking that this wasn’t actually the case and 4 young adults were slaughtered without an obvious sound. Highly unusual for two people to be sleeping in a single bed and one to sleep on while the other is stabbed to death, before being stabbed to death too. NOT ONE of them even got a chance to get a scream out. The survivor only heard crying apparently.

Makes you wonder if the victims were drugged. GHB can’t be detected in blood after 8 hours. It was a little under 8 hours from the murders being carried out before the alarm was raised.

Did the food delivery driver ID Xana as the person who collected the food? Is there actual evidence she was on Tik Tok or just that someone was on it in her history?

Accused immediately asked if anyone else had been arrested when he was? Definitely picked up neuro diversity traits from his mugshot and arraignment video having an adult DS with them myself. He was very calms and seems confident in his innocence. He looks the part of a creepy weirdo conveniently. Veganism is odd too, such strong morals about killing animals but horrifically. frenziedly killing 4 young people. The Dad driving home with him could have been due to perceived vulnerability?

I was in awe of the police work when they arrested the guy and hoping he was the right one but something is very off.

NotAnotherBathBomb · 07/01/2023 21:58

Tilllly · 07/01/2023 16:27

And why those 4 and not the other two?

And why did the call say unconscious person? Not my 4 roommates have been stabbed?

The call was made by passers by. The 2 women ran out i tor he street screaming and some people were walking and they are the ones who called the police. They didn't really understand what was happening.

Adult DD had me up last night discussing this. She’s a bit of a crime buff but I think that’s because she wants to try to make sense of the senseless, not a ghoul before someone jumps on. This case is being discussed at length by many, many people and there’s lots that doesn’t add up.

How come the accused’s father drove home with him on the 2500 mile trip? The car was being used by the accused in Idaho as it was picked on camera up numerous times in the area. The father lived in Pennsylvania according to reports. Why was he in Idaho?

Xana’s body was apparently found in the bedroom doorway. How come the survivor on the same floor didn’t see it but saw the accused walking past her bedroom door? How was she close enough to see his bushy eyebrows in the dark but he didn’t see her? He’d just murdered 4 people in minutes. Why leave a witness?

How come noises and screaming was picked up on neighbour’s security cameras but someone on the same floor didn’t hear the sounds of two people on the same floor being murdered? One was a well built young man.

Not sure if the recording is authentic but a female was picked up as saying ‘leave me alone’. Would you be saying that if someone was coming for you with a knife?!

Did all 4 victims not make any obvious sounds while being stabbed to death especially as there were 2 people in each room and we know at least one was alive.

Who opened the door to the food delivery at 4am? The packaging was on the side of the sink so was obviously opened and eaten. How long would it take to eat a burger etc? So Xana was eating her food and on Tik Tok while her roommates were being murdered upstairs? Did she have headphones on?

Surely the accused knew he’d dropped his knife sheath somewhere. He would have noticed as soon ad he went to dispose of the knife. If he went back the next morning when the house was still silent and there was no police there, why didn’t he pick it up? It was apparently prominently displayed right on one of the beds! He was doing a PhD in Criminology!

Really doesn’t add up.

Yes so so many questions and I absolutely agree

I was sympathising with her, sorry if I wasn't clear. I don't think people are being very understanding of her and expecting her to have done more despite her description of the bushy eyebrows helping to identify the killer.
I found the affidavit harrowing because she must feel haunted that if she had done something differently there may have been a different outcome.

@User12453315
Why is nobody talking about the fact he shows clear signs of incel ideology. The rapid weightloss was part of the "gymcel" concept where improving physical appearance may improve your chances with women. He also picked girls to stalk who were clear "Staceys", hot popular girls that are despised yet desired by incels.

Yes! When I listened to the podcast, I thought the exact same thing. Apparently there was a bar he used to go to where he used to hit on women and ask them inappropriate questions, and whenever one of them rejected him, he'd become really angry and call them names, and apparently the bar even had notes on him, that he was a creep.

Strong incel vibes

I’ve lived in the US and travelled through Idaho. Totally believable that the door wouldn’t be locked. I had an intruder while the door was unlocked whilst in a house share over in the U.S. When there are lots of people sharing a house and different comings and goings throughout the evening AND the house is pretty spacious and big (not like a small U.K. Victorian terrace), it’s easy to imagine the scenario explained in this murder.

US house layouts aren’t the same as ours in the U.K., they tend to be more spacious and all rooms don’t always lead off of a single hallway.

I never said whether I believed they had a locked or unlocked door at the home in Idaho where this happened. I was questioning the poster about their comment that "Americans tend to not lock doors" and they gained this wealth of knowledge from "films". Also their use of "Downtown Detroit" and "The Bronx" as locations where Americans do lock their doors (would love to know why they chose those 2 locations over any other in the US). To think most Americans dont lock their doors is ridiculous, and really not sure why the size of a house has anything to do with whether they lock them or not.
