For me it’s Alan Rickman (who I absolutely love in everything else) as Colonel Brandon in Sense and Sensibility. He came across so unbelievably creepy and repulsive and not the gallant kind soul he is in the book.

Everyone in the latest series of the Crown

really? I thought they did quite well and I particularly thought Diana actress nailed it. Charles actor was too handsome but he still played it very well.

Duckingella · 07/01/2023 01:14

Hero Fiennes Tiffin as Harden Scott in thé After series.

Mothership4two · 07/01/2023 01:19

Michael Maloney as the new love interest in Truly, Madly Deeply. I would have stuck with Alan Rickman even if he was a ghost

Emma Watson as Pauline Fossil in the TV adaptation of Ballet Shoes. Pauline is supposed to be very pretty with naturally white blonde hair. Watson was average looking with obviously bleached hair.

Emma Watson in The Bling Ring, which is a film I love, apart from her looking too old for the part and not managing the accent.

Also, her acting is dreadful.

My daughter would definitely agree, she loved that book and was horrified that Emma Watson got the part of Pauline!

Elijah wood as the football hooligan on green street.

Vince Vaughn in Psycho remake.

Nancy actress in Eastenders was always awful bad as is Shane Richie. I no longer watch but just recall how bad the acting was.

The actress who played lisa on 6 feet under was really annoying although the writing in the season she was in was bad so not all her fault.

Vanessa Williams on Desperate Housewives. Such an unnecessary addition.

Meg Ryan on In the Cut. It was a bad film anyway but the material just didn't suit her. I envisioned Kate Winslet or Julianna Moore doing it as I watched.

Denise Richards as the Bond Girl- just noooo.

George Clooney as Batman and Jim Carrey in it too-nooo.

Alot of people used to say Teri Hatcher in Desperate Housewives and I can somewhat see where they are coming from with that but it might have being that the writers gave her weak storylines for arcs of the show that made her annoying.

Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Bennet

This! A thousand times this!

Nicholas Cage in Captain Corelli’s Mandolin.

Also this. Hands down the worst adaptation of a stupendous book the world has ever seen! And they changed the ending!! Which was the whole fucking point!!

Never been so angry at a film.

Kenneth Branagh as Poirot.

David Suchet just is Poirot. Case, mom amis, is closed.

Teresa777 · 07/01/2023 01:31

John Hannah as Rebus.

It's come up a number of times already (Renee Zellweger, Daniel Craig, Kevin Costner): other than casting Americans to appeal to American audiences 🙄 I've never understood why they don't just hire a native. For e.g. Hugh Laurie might well have been brilliant as House (don't know, didn't watch it, haven't the will to sit through a two-part Taggart) but... why pick a Brit?

ArmyofMunn · 07/01/2023 01:37

SausagePourHomme · 06/01/2023 22:37

leonardo di caprio in everything. always just playing himself.

Gosh I so agree! And he won an Oscar for basically howling through a movie!

SenecaFallsRedux · 07/01/2023 01:40

Squisageandmosh · 06/01/2023 23:04

Me too! Kevin is almost so badly cast, it’s good! 😂

I agree. Plus in some scenes he attempts an English accent and in others, it's pure California. Makes it more fun to watch.

AssumingDirectControl · 06/01/2023 23:34

I thought Daniel Craig was ok in Knives Out because I assumed he’s supposed to be a parody character. Maybe he’s not, and he’s just terrible. I mean, I find him terrible in absolutely everything else (his accent in Munich was astoundingly poor) so perhaps that’s just what it is.

He is supposed to be a parody character. He's doing a form of bad exaggerated Southern accent that used to be popular in low budget movies a few decades ago. I really liked it because he is playing against type.

Keira is perfect in Atonement

Nooo! Atonement is my favourite ever book and the movie was a travesty unfortunately.

Supposedly, Hugh Laurie did his audition tape in an American accent and at least one of the producers didn't know he was American. He was brilliant in House, and only once that I recall, did his native accent peek though: on the word "placard."

Jonathan Ryce Myers as Henry VIII in the Tudors

Old one but I'm still not over it. Too dainty for the role and thought roaring his lines showed the character had power.

I am now wondering if Ray Winstone would have been good?

ASeriesOfTubes · 07/01/2023 02:05

It's not "casting" as such, but Paddy McGuiness was a really odd choice to host Question Of Sport.

verdantverdure · 07/01/2023 02:09

Gwyneth Paltrow as Emma Woodhouse in Emma. Too old, too arch, too American. Romola Garai was much better.

verdantverdure · 07/01/2023 02:16

In the 1940 Pride and Prejudice Mary Bennet and Charlotte Lucas are both played by absolutely beautiful movie stars but Mary wears specs and Charlotte's dresses have fewer flounces than the other characters. It's annoying.

MrsBungle · 07/01/2023 02:35

The actress who plays Ginny Weasley in the Harry Potter films. She doesn’t portray book Ginny AT ALL!

SunshineAndFizz · 07/01/2023 05:20

Hobbesmanc · 06/01/2023 22:08

I read the beach by Alex Garland and mentally cast Ewan McGregor. And then Danny Boyle was announced as the perfect director post Trainspotting.

And they cast Leonardo Di Caprio. So wrong. See also Andi McDowall in Four Weddings. Zero chemistry.

Ewan was originally cast. And then Titanic came out and made Leo a huge star, so Danny Boyle fired Ewan for Leo. Ewan didn't speak to Danny for years afterwards because of it.

Ray Winstone has played Henry VIII (opposite Helena Bonham Carter as Anne Boleyn, if I remember correctly) and the answer to your question is ‘no’’

Penguinsaregreat · 07/01/2023 08:08

I often think sone actors can only play one role and that’s usually not far from who they are. Same in every role. Leonardo Di Caprio is a prime example.
Kristen Stewart is another example.
Thousands of actors in the world and look who they cast.
Nicholas Cage is another one with extremely limited range.

Simon Barlow in Cornation Street, still not convinced he's Peter's offspring.

(Disclaimer - yes I know it's a fictional programme 😀 )

I find his eyebrows very distracting, not sure what’s going on with them.

Jason Statham or Vin Diesel in... well absolutely anything. 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️ as much charisma as a brick wall

You dont need charisma for the films they are in- they know what they are good at and do it well :)
