So much stirring for what? There’s easier ways to get cheese into your mouth

OP posts:
ThreeblackCats · 05/01/2023 14:22

I love making risotto. It’s a beautifully simple yet super tasty dish if made well. I find the stirring to be almost therapeutic. But I love cooking.

You clearly don’t enjoy cooking but please don’t assume that every other home cook thinks and acts like you. You have an opinion but it’s just an opinion. In my opinion risotto is a relatively easy dish.

I've never been a fan of fast foods. Maybe you’re more of a microwave ready meal type op?

idonotmind · 05/01/2023 14:22

Pie is quicker, easier and tastier too

Mangogogogo · 05/01/2023 14:24

I meaaan risotto shouldn’t be slurpy or slop!

it is amazing and worth the work that my partner puts in making it 😂

Fifthtimelucky · 05/01/2023 14:24

I love risotto and normally put plenty of Parmesan in.

However one of my children is now a vegan and I made one without cheese a couple of weeks ago. I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was.

Well clearly she isn’t. Otherwise she’d have posted ‘mmm my microwave risotto was so good’

very snippy response for nothing!

Dacquoise · 05/01/2023 14:25

Delia Smith has a recipe for oven baked risotto, used it a few times and it's very good. Very little stirring!

takealettermsjones · 05/01/2023 14:28

KirstenBlest · 05/01/2023 13:37

@takealettermsjones , butternut squash, mushrooms, goat's cheese and beetroot. The main component of the main course needs to have been prominent in the starter. Them's the rules.

Yes 😂 I think the chefs got bored of us banging on about mushrooms so they swapped them for whatever boring root vegetables they had hanging around and hoped we wouldn't notice!

Don't even get me started on the cauliflower!!

Cileymyrus · 05/01/2023 14:32

Risotto is wonderful. Swap the cheese for garlic and you're onto a winner

even better stir garlic and herb Boursin through at the end. Garlic and Cheese!

pocketvenuss · 05/01/2023 14:32

MrsElm · 05/01/2023 12:33

Why are you putting cheese in your risotto?

You don't put Parmesan in your risotto?

ThreeblackCats · 05/01/2023 14:33

Sorry @Mangogogogo but that was my honest response. If I had been snippy I’d be banned.
op is clearly a bad cook, I was trying to be positive that we are not all natural hone cooks.
If you’re looking for snippy look in the mirror. A good risotto is tasty, simple and delicious. Op has an opinion but she’s incorrect.
have a great day.

ABigSalad123 · 05/01/2023 14:35

Risotto is delicious! The endless stirring can be boring, but pop some music on/watch a series on your phone and it can get quite relaxing.

Geamhradh · 05/01/2023 14:37

Brefugee · 05/01/2023 14:15

I always save the Parmesan rinds for risotto.

@Hillarious how do you do it? I've never thought of doing that, i leave them for the birds usually.

Parmesan or Grana Padano rinds are chucked in at the later stages. Also good in soups. Just don't serve them up, but they add great depth of flavor.

Well plainly I've never had a 'good' risotto because I've never found it 'tasty and delicious'. Perhaps because I have been veggie for years so have eaten far, far too many in my life as a veggie option. Or perhaps because we don't all like the same things?

Anyway, if you cook like you post, I doubt your risottos is tasty and delicious - you need to stir in happiness not snidyness - that is where you are going wrong 😎

Oysterbabe · 05/01/2023 14:49

I do mine in the pressure cooker and it's so easy. Throw in ingredients, press rice, go on with your day, 20 minutes later - Rissoto!

girlmom21 · 05/01/2023 14:49

@ThreeblackCats not making one meal perfectly doesn't make you a bad cook, and you were definitely snippy Grin

2bazookas · 05/01/2023 14:54

If risotto isn't worth it, nor is cake, macaroni cheese, sex, love, motherhood, or education.

Open a packet and bung it in your microwave.
Get shagged by a stranger in an alley and park the little bastard in day care. Wanna pet? just pat a dog in the park. Fashionista? slob on the sofa in your pyjams and watch other people wearing clothes on TV. Wanna git edjicated? log on to MN. Wanna home? I can sell you a cardboard box.

I'm weirded out by people not putting parmesan in.

That's one of the key features of risotto. Would be like missing tomatoes out of spag bol.

Yes! It's only good with hunners and hunners and hunners (Scots for hundreds! I can hear DS1's request as I'm making it!) of parmesan.

Lemon and asparagus
Pea
Parma ham

All good versions, although must try some of these suggested.

pd339 · 05/01/2023 14:55

Eat a lump of cheddar then. Leave proper food for those of us who enjoy it.

Itschristmastimeinthecity · 05/01/2023 14:56

I cant lie, I love a good bacon and mushroom risotto but will I ever make it myself at home? NO

Who shat in your cornflakes?! 😆

NewDogOwner · 05/01/2023 15:09

Another vote for baked one. Type in oven baked risotto to Google and the first one -Good Food bacon and cherry tomato - is amazing.

ShirleywasaLady · 05/01/2023 15:13

This thread is incredible! The anger generated by a rice dish... There's even someone comparing making a risotto to motherhood or pet ownership! And people accusing the OP of not being a terrible cook based on her DH saying he doesn't like it. She has said herself she does like it, and is happily eating it, but just wasn't convinced it was worth the amount of work that goes in to it. I feel like that about Lasagne... Its lovely, I like to eat it, but I'm not convinced its worth the effort that goes in to making it myself, and would happily only ever have it in restaurants where other people have made it!

That's MN for you. Full of lunatics behind a screen!

MrsTerryPratchett · 05/01/2023 15:18

Risotto needs great stock and wine, proper rice and enough butter. People who don't like it often miss one of these pieces.

MiladeeBeserko · 05/01/2023 15:20

Ooo. Inspired to make smoked haddick risotto now, it's been ages.
