I don't mind a watch or wedding ring but don't like a necklace, bracelet or earring on a man.

I'm generally attracted to the rocker type so jewellery tends to be part of that and I have zero issue with that. A gold chain, fat tacky gold old man rings, huge bling watch, however not my thing.

A leather bracelet on a tanned, veiny/tendon-y forearm is my kryptonite though. Tends to be a guitar/bass player thing. I married a bass player 😂

romdowa · 06/01/2023 05:45

I like a nice chain and a nice watch on a man. I cant stand rings on men bar a wedding ring.

Men in jewelry either look gay or common.

So all Sikhs look gay or common?

uncomplicatedish · 06/01/2023 06:19

Depends.

'Alternative' guy - yes!
Member of a K-pop band - yes!

Man in a cagoule - no!

cushioncovers · 06/01/2023 06:34

Nope I can't stand it. I don't know why but I hate jewellery on men.

Another strong contender for worst of Mumsnet. FFS 🙄

Sparklingbrook · 06/01/2023 06:54

I think this also is a conrender for most Hmm post on here, on a thread about men wearing jewellery. WTF.

As much as I don't really care for men wearing jewellery, it's possible for both sexes to overdo it. A young lady I see often has five piercings in each ear plus two in her right nostril. With all that metal on her mush, she could easily pass for a Cyberwoman on the set of Doctor Who.

Sparklingbrook · 06/01/2023 06:55

*Contender

Thepeopleversuswork · 06/01/2023 07:02

Young men with hot, tanned bodies can pull this off.

Gold, chunky jewellery on older men in particular, signer rings and necklaces etc is naff as fuck. Shudder.

Rubyupbeat · 06/01/2023 07:03

It depends on the person and what they like.
I remember years ago sovereign and krugerand rings were a thing, and I really thought they were very Delboyish, as well as thick belcher , curb and rope chains, but they were a fashion and I am sure most men moved on from them.
A bit like the horrific gold clown and doll on chains years ago, but you never see anyone wearing them now.
My husband just wears a wedding band, sometimes a watch, but not very often.

Bunchymcbunchface · 06/01/2023 07:03

Hate it.
my dad wears a ring and a medallion - he’s over 85. Always worn it.
chains on men and anything other than a wedding ring are a massive no from me.

dolor · 06/01/2023 07:03

His body, his choice.

Whatwouldscullydo · 06/01/2023 07:14

I dont particularly like those gold chains etc men wear.

But I kind like the long haird alternative/rocker types so I do like piercings. A nipple ring on guy is a welcome sexy surprise.

However men are free to dress and wear whatever they want and whether I like it or not is irrelevant. Their body their choice.

Bleachmycloths · 06/01/2023 07:16

I like jewellery on men and women. Too much looks OTT on either sex. I have a friend who wears loads. She thinks she looks great. I think she looks a human jewellery rack 🤣

Sparklingbrook · 06/01/2023 07:19

I agree with their body their choice, but also others have the choice to find anything they like unattractive on others.

I think even though I'm not a fan of jewellery on men , it wouldn't be a dealbreaker if they had other things going for them. Grin

Rockybooboo · 06/01/2023 07:24

I don't care. I don't like wearing jewellery. I'm on the spectrum and it feels uncomfortable so I tend to take it off or I lose or break it.I know that most women of my age wear expensive stuff and look sophisticated so I guess I'm being judged.

evilharpy · 06/01/2023 07:24

I'm not a fan.

My daughter made my husband a very garish loom band bracelet once and he wore it for months, I could get on board with that as it was very sweet. But generally no thanks.

No judgement here. I haven't worn gold since I was a teenager and I finally got my ear lobes pierced with those 9 carat gold stud things.

Now my ears are full of bars and rings. 😂 surgical steal or titanium or whatever it is they use.

I'm sure that puts many men off too bit I dont give a shit.

. I grew up in the 1970's and this was a very common view back then in my experience. Not condoning it, just saying.

steff13 · 06/01/2023 13:16

I think it depends on the man whether it suits him. It's not a deal breaker regardless.

Thingshavebecomeweird · 06/01/2023 13:19

If I wear a wedding ring, my DH is too. Simple only.

ChaToilLeam · 06/01/2023 13:23

Rock/goth type jewellery, fine by me. I grew up in the 70s and 80s after all.

Big blingy gold chains and sovvy rings, no thank you.

Overall I am really not all that fussed.

Sartre · 06/01/2023 13:23

Jewellery isn’t really my taste in general so no, I wouldn’t find a man adorned in it attractive. A watch and wedding ring is as far as it goes for me.

Notjustanymum · 06/01/2023 13:50

Depends how well they wear it, really. Some men get it right, others, not so well. I’ve always been suspicious of men with a signet ring on their pinky, though!

DeeCeeCherry · 06/01/2023 13:59

DP has rings n bling I dont mind, it suits him. & my culture makes good Gold so its usual. Sexist jewellery snobs is a new one on me
