To never go back there again - mortified

A bit of back story: Day off work today so had a few hours to myself while DC was at school. Let's just say it's been a little while since the old ahem has had any action and I was in a bit of a naughty mood, so decided to order myself a toy 🙈 fast forward to early evening and I have taken DC to swimming lesson. While DC is in lesson, I was talking to another parent (never met them before today) about how expensive it is to buy goggles from the leisure centre and how much cheaper online it is. In an effort to demonstrate said point, I whipped out my phone and pulled up Amazon. As I did so, it occurred to me that this was where I'd bought my toy from earlier but I thought surely there must be some kind of privacy feature that prevents any 'similar items' being displayed on the landing page - you know the recommendations based on your buying history right? So I'm waiting for the page to load, signal is shit and I'm debating whether to make an excuse about my data and put my phone away but already felt committed. Page finally loads, phew, nothing untoward in the sponsored ads/recommendations, I'm thinking I'm in the clear and nobody needs to know what I bought earlier yay. I then click the search bar to type in 'swimming goggles' when I kid you fucking not, my search history then appears in bright fucking purple and the last and only entries are 'thrusting dildo' and 'flesh like dildo'. I know the other parent saw it too because she grins and looks at me in a 'wouldn't have thought you were the type but go girl' way 😭😭 honestly I am mortified and absolutely convinced that the only way forward is to find another leisure centre. Can I ever show my face in there again?? In fact should I move area completely because she probably lives local and I may see her in the area anyway?? Honestly never been so embarrassed in my life lol

Interesting first post. No one gives a shit if an adult buys a dildo.

I think "woman has sex life" stopped being a headline a few years ago. You are probably in the clear and should stop worrying about it.

Choice4567 · 04/01/2023 21:30

🤔

Bluebuttercupss · 04/01/2023 21:31

I bloody hope so 😂😂

Believe me, some of the most uppity folks buy sextoys. Nobody cares anymore. It's completely normal.

Haha oh op, this is the sort of thing that would happen to me 😂

Don't worry about it honestly. Though she WILL have told her husband and possibly her friends. I would have 😂 but I wouldn't hold it against you.......unless you wanted me too of course 😜

😂😂 that is what heightens the embarrassment even more, knowing this will absolutely be discussed amongst the husband, friends and possibly colleagues 😩 I absolutely know I will get over this and this was just a thread to have a laugh at my expense really, too mortified to even tell my family/friends

That's pretty embarrassing.

When something crosses a certain threshold of embarrassment, its healthy to force yourself not to care. Or suppress it like a traumatic memory.

With time you'll find it more of a funny story than embarrassing tale.

If it helps, few weeks ago my neighbour (the Husband) bumped into me at Tesco while I was looking at condoms and had lube in my hands.

Ihatethenewlook · 04/01/2023 21:44

There’s been quite a few of these today. Did your phone also accidentally send nudes to another friend?

No, I don't take nudes. But if I did, knowing my luck, that would probably happen!

why exactly? you are anonymous here so why do you care?

artfulbodger22 · 04/01/2023 21:53

Troll hunting threads are so boring. Seeing so many of them lately and it just derails the thread. If you think it's fake why bother commenting?

CrikeySusan · 04/01/2023 21:54

What person needs guidance to see how much goggles are online? I don't know anyone who couldn't look up goggles on the internet.

Maybe because if the parent who saw is on MN she would be able to search all of OPs other posts?

Its not unusual to NC when posting something identifying.

I’d make sure your extra smiley next time so she knows it’s working! 🤣
Maybe you’ll become friends and laugh about this in future!

Misunderstoodagain · 04/01/2023 22:00

Why are people so frigging mean. Ignore the idiots OP. I would also be mortified!

Why? Who would give a shit? Who would be scandalised? Would you be rushing to tell everyone you knew if you'd been the other person? Would you find it that shocking and outrageous that an adult buys a toy?

LaughingCat · 04/01/2023 22:02

HAAAAAAA! This is brilliant. This is now joining my anecdotal library - you must be mortified! To make you feel better, here’s a couple of mine,

I once took my iPad into the IT team at the council I worked in so they could load the security protocols I needed to work from it - they said they needed to search something on the internet, pressed Safari, which then proceeded to load up a porn website I’d watched at home and forgotten to close, showing Japanese animated hentai. The Wifi signal was very good and the speakers on there worked just fine as well. I died inside. Every time I needed help from that moment on, and they asked whether I’d turned it off and turned it back on again, I died a little more.

Meanwhile, one of my friends ran an introduction to coding class for interested enthusiasts at work, and he wanted to bring up a comic from xkcd, a well-known scientific/tech webcomic. He typed the X into the Google address bar and it ‘helpfully’ autofilled xhamster.com for him, in front of the whole class. And senior management. I was CRYING!

You’ll survive. Just grin and say that you can probably get her a referral voucher 😂
