To never go back there again - mortified

A bit of back story: Day off work today so had a few hours to myself while DC was at school. Let's just say it's been a little while since the old ahem has had any action and I was in a bit of a naughty mood, so decided to order myself a toy 🙈 fast forward to early evening and I have taken DC to swimming lesson. While DC is in lesson, I was talking to another parent (never met them before today) about how expensive it is to buy goggles from the leisure centre and how much cheaper online it is. In an effort to demonstrate said point, I whipped out my phone and pulled up Amazon. As I did so, it occurred to me that this was where I'd bought my toy from earlier but I thought surely there must be some kind of privacy feature that prevents any 'similar items' being displayed on the landing page - you know the recommendations based on your buying history right? So I'm waiting for the page to load, signal is shit and I'm debating whether to make an excuse about my data and put my phone away but already felt committed. Page finally loads, phew, nothing untoward in the sponsored ads/recommendations, I'm thinking I'm in the clear and nobody needs to know what I bought earlier yay. I then click the search bar to type in 'swimming goggles' when I kid you fucking not, my search history then appears in bright fucking purple and the last and only entries are 'thrusting dildo' and 'flesh like dildo'. I know the other parent saw it too because she grins and looks at me in a 'wouldn't have thought you were the type but go girl' way 😭😭 honestly I am mortified and absolutely convinced that the only way forward is to find another leisure centre. Can I ever show my face in there again?? In fact should I move area completely because she probably lives local and I may see her in the area anyway?? Honestly never been so embarrassed in my life lol

Do all the people typing this know what it means? It doesn't mean 'someone is a troll'; it's the term for posters who suggest the OP is a troll.

Therefore it makes no sense in this context.

This is something you need to be more tech savvy with. Be careful about what data is on your screen and whether you want people to see it or not - it wasn’t really necessary for you to pull up your phone here. You could have kept your phone turned away from this person or kept your brightness down until the page loaded. You could have just used a browser search engine to find general prices of this item. It was completely avoidable

Oh OP!!! If it makes you feel better, in the early 00s I accidentally replied ‘all’ to an email from my now DH telling him exactly what I wanted to do to him. It went to all his mates, which happened to include my then boss 🤦🏻‍♀️

I am A LOT more careful these days!

Oh OP 😂😂 If it makes you feel better I left the pacakaging for a dildo next to my fireplace so I could burn it next time I lit the fire (didn’t want to put it in the bin in case the bin men saw - yes, I know, irrational) and then forgot it was there when my parents popped round a day or two later. I’m amazed I didn’t spontaneously combust I went that red 😂

Why? Who would give a shit? Who would be scandalised? Would you be rushing to tell everyone you knew if you'd been the other person? Would you find it that shocking and outrageous that an adult buys a toy?

I don't get why people even do it in the 1st place, unless you tell friends and family your username then why would you bother changing it with a bunch of complete strangers here?

Well if you were already aware as you say you were then surely you'd keep your phone in only your view until the goggles come up. Quite basic. I'd do that anyway and the most interesting thing I've bought recently has been gloves.

This forum is fairly popular and posters might be recognised by people in real life regardless of their username, by what they post. Name changes allow people to be anonymous so all the posts under one username are not linked.

There has been many occasions where I have even stumbled across MN through a simple google search. I posted about a health issue I had. 6 months later tried to google the health issue and came across the thread I made (and forgot about) on the first page of google search results. I wouldn’t underestimate how many people you may know that may use this website.

Anyway if this makes you feel any better....

My DD when she was about 2, goes to pick up my dildo (which was hidden, I might add, really well, or so I thought).
I'm aware how fucking wrong that is.
I did a slow motion "noooooooooooo" and pulled a muscle throwing myself to quickly grab it before she did.
It had a ring of gems around the bottom (note: DH chose it, probably for a joke at my expense).
She sulked and said "mummy but I wanted the fancy sink cleaner." I said oh use this instead and gave her my blusher brush and she did a plunging motion with the brush over the sink hole. Thank god I stopped her before she tried that with the dildo.

Not my proudest moment but proof we all have those moments. Unfortunately yours had an adult audience 😂
