To ask what you order from the Chinese?

DH and I have a tradition of always getting a Chinese takeaway on 1st Jan, and this year for the first time we're extending it to the kids too.

So, just that really, what is your go to order? I'm looking for inspiration. DH always has a chow mein (lovely but boring as he has it every time), DS has already requested sweet and sour chicken and DD will probably have some sort of fried rice or maybe chicken satay.

I eat almost anything and am starving, help me decide what to have oh wise mumsnetters!

We always get between 2 of us (some left for lunch next day):

• sweet and sour chicken balls
• crispy salt and pepper beef

-.chicken chow mein

• egg fried rice
• prawn crackers

Sometimes add a 1/4 duck with pancakes plum sauce etc

SZECHUAN CHICKEN is lovely. Bit spicy but so nice. This thread has given me lots of ideas for future take outs.

We've just placed our order and we are having crispy shredded chicken in honey chilli sauce, beef in black bean with green pepper, satay chicken skewers, boiled rice, chow mein noodles, salt n pepper chips and seaweed.

Chicken chow mein is a staple here. But would usually have something with sauce with it too - sweet and sour, crispy chilli beef or even curry.

Dim sum- selection of dumpling with vinegar dipping sauce, salt and pepper squid, chicken with cashew nuts, rice (boiled) and maybe either mixed sweet and sour Cantonese style or special with spring onion and ginger. If ordering from a proper chinese restaurant then usually would go for something home style with belly pork. Udon noodles if we have noodles.

Between us we usually order beef curry and rice, special chow menu, chicken balls, pork balls and prawn crackers. Sometimes also salt and pepper squid depending where we order from.
I fancy a Chinese now!

Sweet and sour prawns or duck with pancakes etc, and spring rolls if vegetable ones and home made.

@Soubriquet you are my Chinese takeaway soulmate. Add some veg spring rolls and a pot of black bean sauce and we’d be having the night in of our lives 😉

Any steamed dim sum, such as prawn and chive dumplings or siu mai, and always char sui steamed buns.
Our favourite is paper wrapped chicken with chopped fresh chilli and pak choi in oyster sauce.
The kids prefer more the more westernised Chinese dishes and have the aromatic duck and pancakes, curry, sweet and sour etc We’re lucky to live close enough to a great restaurant/takeaway that offers traditional and westernised dishes. Although the dim sum has to be ordered before 6pm.

I love dim sum but nowhere here does it. Salt and chilli squid / char sui are favourites here

That was our order last night between three of us

Not many places have it but when I can get it it’s Chicken with bamboo shoots and water chestnuts. Otherwise chicken or beef with ginger and spring onions and fried rice or with plain noodles. Kids always have sweet and sour chicken and fried rice with prawn toast. Prawn crackers and veggie spring rolls are a must!!

and then I feel awful after. I have a love/hate thing with Chinese takeaway!!!!

Bamboo shoots are delicious
I usually have prawn toast, chicken fried rice, sometimes foo yung too. Sweet & sour chicken balls go down well here, as does lemon chicken.

I know I'm late but I always have king prawn and mushroom also crispy duck and pancakes if I'm really hungry!

I'm the same. I love it but have to be careful as it can make my face puffy and sore! MSG apparently

We usually do a chicken & sweetcorn soup starter then Beef in Black Pepper, Sweet & Sour Chicken and Chicken Chow Mein are my usual go to for a main. I do love duck and pancakes too though and BBQ Spare ribs and Prawn Crackers are a given whatever is ordered.
