DH and I have a tradition of always getting a Chinese takeaway on 1st Jan, and this year for the first time we're extending it to the kids too.

So, just that really, what is your go to order? I'm looking for inspiration. DH always has a chow mein (lovely but boring as he has it every time), DS has already requested sweet and sour chicken and DD will probably have some sort of fried rice or maybe chicken satay.

I eat almost anything and am starving, help me decide what to have oh wise mumsnetters!

I either have chicken in black bean sauce or crispy shredded chicken in cornshue? sauce. Then the normal noodles, spring rolls etc

Chickenwing2 · 01/01/2023 16:57

Beef in black bean sauce with green peppers
Sweet & sour chicken hong kong style
Salt & chilli chicken
Salt & chilli chips
Plain chow mein
fried rice
Curry sauce
Mini spring rolls
Prawn crackers

This was our order last night. Yum! I love a Chinese takeaway!

Spenn · 01/01/2023 16:57

Banquet which is prawn toasts, wontons, seaweed, spring rolls, 1/4 duck plus pancakes and spring onion/cucumber, sweet and sour chicken, beef in black bean, crispy chilli chicken, large egg fried rice, then extra salt and pepper chips and curry sauce to make it over £30 which gives you extra spring rolls, a garlic chilli chicken, salt and pepper squid and a bottle of pop. Free prawn crackers.bargain at 31.50 :)

I don’t have a set thing but often get Singapore noodles or rice. Sometimes if I have rice I’ll get 1/2 chicken from the English section with it and then satay sauce. I love satay sticks, but they can be chewy, so this is my better version 😬
Usually get some Chinese leaf or garlic broccoli.
Love duck pancakes.
Or tofu, usually with cashews.

Freesia41 · 01/01/2023 17:01

DH and I had Chinese on Friday and had:

Mixed starters - ribs, prawn toast, chicken balls, pancake rolls and seaweed (usually have crispy duck and pancakes)
Chop suey vegetables
Cantonese chicken
Kung po beef
Boiled rice

Mynotsoperfectlittlefamily · 01/01/2023 17:05

We usually go with
Chicken Satay Skewers
Salt and Chilli Crispy Chicken
Salt and Chilli Chips
Chips
Sweet and sour sauce.
It's so good 😋😋

susan12345678 · 01/01/2023 17:09

I thought this would be a thread about Amazon 😂

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 01/01/2023 17:09

Me - crispy shredded beef in garlic and chilli, pork curry or udon noodles.
DH - sweet and sour chicken balls or beef in black bean sauce
DD - chicken fried rice or sweet and sour chicken balls

Always with prawn crackers and either salt and pepper ribs or chicken wings.

loopyloutoo · 01/01/2023 17:10

Special chow mein, salt and pepper chips, seaweed and satay sauce with plenty of prawn crackers to scoop yum!!!!

MendaciousMabel · 01/01/2023 17:11

I’m so boring with Chinese I just have beef fried rice, curry sauce and chips 😂

Notimeforaname · 01/01/2023 17:12

What is this magical sounding 3 in 1 of which you speak?

🤣It's just a tray with a layer of egg fried rice on the bottom(boiled if you prefer), chips in the middle and curry sauce poured on top.
Not as magical as it first sounds although some places are really getting ballsy now and offering a 4in1, you can add a layer of meat or noodles to the tray.

You can get them all in small or large trays.

indie123 · 01/01/2023 17:16

For myself - roast duck with boiled rice and vegetable spring rolls

IcakethereforeIam · 01/01/2023 17:20

Just me, no-one else is interested so just on my birthday if we don't go out, but hot and sour soup, char sui pork chow mein with soft noodles. I used to love salt and pepper spare ribs from a place near my sister's but my current takeaway's don't measure up.

geminiflanagan · 01/01/2023 17:21

Bbq ribs in gravy
Salt & pepper chilli chicken
Crispy chilli beef
House special fried rice
Chicken balls with curry sauce instead of sweet & sour

That is between 3 of us, and with leftovers for the following day.

I love a prawn toast too but we never get it, i think it's too pricey!

Jennyfromthetoiletblock · 01/01/2023 17:24

For 4 of us -
Kung Po chicken
king prawn curry
Crispy chilli beef or shredded chicken
Chow Mein
Egg fried rice
if we’re really hungry, we might also have crispy duck & pancakes, or prawn toasts, salta and pepper ribs, dumplings and spring rolls.

thirdistheonewiththehairychest · 01/01/2023 17:24

We had Chinese last night for me, DH, 12yo, 10yo and 5yo and we ordered...

Mixed starter
Prawn crackers
Sweet and sour chicken balls
Crispy chilli beef
Singapore noodles
Beef chow mein
Egg fried rice
Chicken fried rice

About to tuck into leftovers for tonights dinner!

HiccupHorrendousHaddock · 01/01/2023 17:26

Salt and pepper aubergine sticks, spring rolls and prawn toasts to start, shared generally.

Bean curd in mustard cabbage stir fry, kung po king prawns, "crunchy punchy" beef (no idea what's actually in it, DD eats it) and chicken curry for the carnivores

Plain fried rice for most, chips for DH.

agent765 · 01/01/2023 17:26

We had chicken chow mein and Cantonese beef (one each between us) last night.

We're eating the leftovers (about half) tonight.

It's our first takeaway since January 2020 but we always ordered small as things have been tight for quite a while. It helps that we hate food waste, too.

Glitterybee · 01/01/2023 17:27

Chicken chow mein
smoked chicken
chips
curry sauce
prawn crackers

love a Chinese!!!!

TheVelvetOnion · 01/01/2023 17:29

Smoked shredded chicken or peking king prawn Smile

PepsiMaxandPringleStacks · 01/01/2023 17:29

Salted chilli chicken, salted chili chips, smoked chicken, egg fried rice and a tub of satay sauce 🥰

SoMachoHesGottaBe · 01/01/2023 17:29

I usually get a chicken curry, beef and tomatoes and a either a special fried rice or singapore noodles. Its a vermicelli version of special fried rice but also very spicy. If i'm feeling greedy I might also get sweet and sour chicken balls.

Gunner1510 · 01/01/2023 17:30

We’re going to order a Chinese tonight 😋

DH always has beef curry, egg fried rice and salt and chilli chips. I usually have chicken chow mein, sweet and sour or beef in oyster sauce.

I do like Singapore noodles though and they have Singapore chow mein on the menu at our Chinese… has any
