abortion illegal

Posting here for the traffic, im so sorry

Just found out I am pregnant. I am an expat living abroad (Turkey) and although on paper abortion is still legal, I have found out that no clinic or hospital or doctor will perform one without a medical reason to do so. So basically abortions are legal however we cannot access them.

I am 6 weeks pregnant and really do not want to continue with this. I have looked online at travelling to the UK for one however they are around 500GBP which I really cannot afford :( Although I am financially well considering where I live, once my wage and money is converted to pounds I am considered poor. I am terribly stuck and now even considering keeping a baby I am not ready for at all.

Any advice please

Hi, Thank you so much - I have private messaged you. Could you please check.

Someone here also helped find a doctor who is willing to go through with the surgery, I am trying to contact the doctor and hopefully will be able to arrange it

Women on web and women on wave are both blocked. I looked at women help - site wasn't blocked but when I filled in the form it said shipping to Turkey wasn't available due to the pandemic.

OP, no offence to continue who I am sure is a genuine kind person trying to help, but you should really only take her up on her offer if you've exhausted every other avenue. It would be extremely risky to take medication given to you by a stranger.

Have you considered if you're not able to terminate the pregnancy putting the baby up for adoption?

continueorterminate · 29/12/2022 08:43

I'm on my phone and can't see how to find messages- I've only ever received one years ago. I'll check mumsnet in my computer in about 20 mins and see if I can find it.

When I got the pills all the shit in america with making abortions illegal was kicking off and I thought I ought to keep these in case somebody abroad needs them. Awful situation to be in.

Shit I did not know that, I am so sorry. Maybe an international agency? I really hope you manage to source a safe termination OP, I'm sorry I can't offer you any help.

In these circumstances you need to borrow the money even if it takes 2 years to pay it back. And do everything possible to make sure this can’t happen again.

Freddiesextrateeth · 29/12/2022 08:52

So sorry this is happening for you op. This post has really brought to light just how awful this situation is for millions of women who cannot access abortion 😢

Just about to post something very similar. Borrow/credit card and get it done. Deal with the cost later.

I agree, it is an extremely risky thing to do. But I also know women are being forced into extremely risky choices by the fucking men if this world. I'm willing to photograph everything I have if anyone medical here wants to see it. I'm willing to disclose my identity to op. I got help so easily here and then didn't need it. Why should another women not get the same help.
Obviously I know they are legit, but op what is the risk of them being found in the post? What would happen?

continueorterminate · 29/12/2022 09:03

That is the risk to you that I'm worried about.

Is there anyone you could go through a telemedical appt with? Someone you trust in the UK who you could give all the necessary medical info to, dates etc and they effectively pretend to be you, get the pills and post them to you?

gogohmm · 29/12/2022 09:07

Check somewhere like Bulgaria or Romania?

JusteanBiscuits · 29/12/2022 09:08

abortionistanbul.com/abortion_clinic_hospital.html

This seems to be the only place - and I would speak to them for advice if nothing else. DO get advice before doing anything as it appears that methotrexate is illegal in Turkey and illegal to import.

DetalMetector · 29/12/2022 09:11

If BPAS site is blocked for you, you can call them on +44 1789 508 211 from outside the UK.
they don’t seem to give an enquiries email address for women overseas to use, which might be a really useful thing for them to offer when countries block websites. That number is taken from their ‘contact us’ webpage www.bpas.org/contact-us/

OP I should have said, the numbers and email addresses that I have given here are publicly available, taken from these webpages
women help women: womenhelp.org/en/page/695/contact
and women on web:
www.womenonweb.org/en/page/521/who-we-are
Also- Women on Web says they respond to emails with 24 hours which is good.

I’m just a bit concerned at how much you are having to take on trust here OP. You could maybe ask other people that you trust IRL in the UK to Google the links pasted here and contact these various groups to verify to you my C&Ps are accurate. I hope that you can find the information and support that you’re looking for soon. Take care.

Shit. The expiration date was May. I never thought to look until now

Contact ASN 'Abortion support network', they will give you advice and as you are quite early on may be able to get pills to you via 'Women on the web.

They support women to access abortion and will cover travel costs if necessary, they expect a minimum donation of £10.

If you do have to travel and it is a surgical procedure a volunteer will collect you from the clinic, take you to their home and feed you that evening and get you either back to the clinic or to the airport the following day.

Volunteers do this at their own exspence so it is more likely to be public transport.

Their 'bread and butter' is Irish women but they are offering support to more and more women from other countries.

Hope you manage to find a resolution. As someone who lived in Turkey once, it's desperately sad to hear what life is really like there now & a stark reminder that what is portrayed by the media is often nothing like the reality for the people living there😞. All the best op.

whumpthereitis · 29/12/2022 09:14

contact Mitera clinic in Istanbul.

BakedTattie · 29/12/2022 09:15

I have no advice but just wanted to say how awful that women have to go through this still.

I hope you get everything sorted op. Horrible situation to be in. Sending love

whumpthereitis · 29/12/2022 09:17

also, if you need to cross borders don’t just look at flying. Trains are significantly cheaper. You can go from Istanbul to Sofia for €25.
