Posting for traffic sorry - I’m back at work tomorrow and can’t sleep.

Should I bite the bullet and order a Dyson airwrap? to those that have it - what are your thoughts about it? Is it worth the £450 price tag?

I got one for Christmas. I'm really enjoying using it, what a clever bit of kit!

BCxx · 28/12/2022 00:16

It’s one of those things you think you’ll get and itl transform your life, you’ll have the most amazing blow dried hair etc. I think potentially that could be the case or it could go the way it has with mine and it’s sat in the box and is never used. I’ve now taken the hairdryer part through to my little boy’s room to use after his bath, could have used a cheap hairdryer for that 😂

Oh wow! Can’t believe you keep it in the box. What is it that you’re not impressed by? Is it just a bit of a faff?

I have long hair and blow dry and usually wave it, was hoping this could be a bit of a shortcut…

@leccybill glad your enjoying it. If you don’t mind, what size did you get and how long is your hair? Not sure if I need the long version or not

I honestly find it revolutionary! I’ve had mine since they were pretty new. I am useless at styling my hair with anything other than that. Cuts down on time, always get compliments on my hair!

ScrambledEggsScrambledBrain · 28/12/2022 00:22

I've had mine a few years and really love it. I've never gotten the hang of being able to curl my hair and my hair has never held a curl either. My hair is fine and flat, shoulder length and this gives me volume but also straightens with the brush attachment.

I have a friend for who it really doesn't work for at all though. Her hair is long and thick and it looked beautiful when I first curled it but half an hour later it had all dropped out.

So for me personally it's 10/10 but I know other people it's shit.

GetOffTheRoof · 28/12/2022 00:23

Waste of money. Had mine a few years, it's used as a v expensive hairdryer. That's it.

I have long hair and the curls just won't stay. I've tried every video and Instagrammer version of curling my hair and it's limp in an hour.

Don't waste your money. I hear great things about the Babyliss Big Hair series.

Tempone · 28/12/2022 00:25

It's a no from.me, I sold it to a friend after I had given her a very honest review. My hair is quite thick and straight. The curl lasts approximately 3 minutes and then falls out and it makes my baby hairs frizzy.

BabyFour2023 · 28/12/2022 00:27

I love mine. I used to get a fortnightly curly blow but honestly love how mine styles my hair. Always get so many compliments on it. I have long, thick hair. Go for it!

leccybill · 28/12/2022 00:29

Tbh my DH bought it as a surprise and he got the Long even though my hair is only armpit length but I don't think it really matters. The barrels are just longer.

ScrambledEggsScrambledBrain · 28/12/2022 00:31

I will say I don't rate the blow drying attachment on it at all, my hair is fine and drys quickly anyway so it's not an issue for me but the people I've tried it on with thicker hair, getting it from wet to mostly dry took forever,

Bellysgonnagetme · 28/12/2022 00:44

Go for it but buy direct from Dyson so that you can return it if it doesn't work out for you.

I got one for Christmas this year and love it so far, curled it on xmas day and it still has lovely shape now albeit more of a blow out than curls. Its early days but I think it will make most of my other hair tools redundant.

Success with it really depends on your hair type though, if you have hair that struggles to hold a style with other tools then it won't do much better with this I don't think.

Bellysgonnagetme · 28/12/2022 00:47

Also, definitely get the long version, my hair is just beyond shoulder so would have been fine with the standard one but I want to get good results even if I grow my hair. I don't really know why they bother making the shorter one!

Nevermind31 · 28/12/2022 00:50

Love mine. Was never able to style my hair - now I get compliments every time I use it.

Mercurial123 · 28/12/2022 00:55

I think it depends on your hair type. Mine is thick, frizzy and curly. The results were underwhelming.

newnamequickly · 28/12/2022 01:22

Always always get it from Dyson directly. Even second hand on eBay please avoid like the plague.

Too many clever counterfeit ones out there. They are even registered with Dyson as genuine but this fails when you try to claim under warranty.

I had to buy the thing twice! My genuine one is fabulous but holding the counterfeit one side by it's side, There is no difference in look at all only function. So you'll not know.

TerfOnATrain · 28/12/2022 01:29

DD got the Shark copy this year for Christmas and is thrilled with, it was £299 so cheaper.

its had very good Reviews

BigMama32 · 28/12/2022 13:33

Seconding @TerfOnATrain the shark is just as good if not better! If you have visions of perfectly blow dried hair make sure you use some sort of hold product though as air wrap blow dries are notorious for dropping quicker than traditional brush and dryer ones,

Pumperthepumper · 28/12/2022 13:34

I borrowed my friends for a bit but I found it too fiddly and annoying to change the heads every five minutes.

NameIsBryceQuinlan · 28/12/2022 13:40

I love mine. I can dry is straight so no need for straighteners. I like the barrel brush attachment to make it wavy. It's really excellent on my very long hair

DelurkingLawyer · 28/12/2022 13:43

Yes I love it. You do have to use product and also make sure you are using it properly which takes a bit of time to learn. The Dyson videos are not great and they don’t explain what all the attachments are for, but there are some much more helpful ones on YouTube. Jonathan van Ness did a good one.

catsandkid · 28/12/2022 14:21

I got one from Dyson directly earlier this year. Am usually good at doing my hair and can easily curl with straighteners or wands and it holds curls for a good amoutn of time. My hair is thick, straight, not frizzy.

I found it very underwhelming. The whole process took so much longer than my usual routine. Only being able to get decent curls if you do it when your hair is wet was a big faff for me, as I tend to wash hair only twice a week. I had the newer version which is designed to avoid frizz and flyaways.... but even with this extra tech, the end results were quite frizzy. I prefer my sleeker waves that I get with my GHD Creative Curl wand (which, incidentally takes only max 10 mins to achieve....)

Main issue for me was that the results are so unpredictable. I'm used to being able to do my hair and know how it will look at the end. You just don't get that with the Dyson and the result was never ever sleek and shiny. The curls also fell SO quickly (despite numerous products being used to help hold the curl) and would be pretty flat and meh after a nights sleep.

However, my friend loves hers. She has naturally wave prone hair though, so I thnk it holds the curl much better in her hair. She also is crap using straighteners or wands so felt the Dyson was the first attachment that seemed to work for her.

catsandkid · 28/12/2022 14:22

Should add.... as I got it from Dyson I sent it back on their money back guarantee scheme. Was super easy to send back (they come and collect it) and money back in my account v quickly! Good custmer service!

Mxflamingnoravera · 28/12/2022 14:27

My hairdresser gave me a tutorial for drunk my fine, straight, stacked bob with a hot brush. He uses a Dyson hairdryer but the hot brush was a Tresseme and it gave fab results, his vies was no need to pay Dyson prices. So I've bought a Revlon hot brush and my limp flat hair now has volume...

Obviously it depends on your hair type and style. But the biggest thing did me was the tutorial from the hairdresser.

walnutmarzipan · 28/12/2022 14:27

The main curl attachments only work for me if my hair is soaking wet. If I rough dry it first then attempt to curl it will drop out. The issue I have is that my hair is naturally curly so I would normally have to get it straight and then curl it to get the desired effect, otherwise my roots are tight curls with waves at the bottom. I obviously can't do this if I'm needing to use it from wet.
I mainly use the round brush to dry my hair as it's good for volume.
The normal brush attachments I've never used. I think there are some good YouTube videos on how to use it.
All in all I'd say it's good but not worth the price tag.
