Neighbour’s XL Bully

My neighbour has one of these dogs, which to be fair I always on a lead, but I’m so bloody scared of it when I am out walking my dog. He says it’s friendly and our dogs have sniffed each other and he while on leads, but I just feel so uneasy. I feel that if he slipped and that dog got loose it would be such a danger to everyone around. The area I live in is mainly families with young children and I just can’t understand why someone would get this kind of dog?

I understand all dogs can be aggressive, but all dogs don’t have this power and muscle that means they can easily kill!

I mean yes it could be dangerous but so could every; rottweiler, German shepherd, boxer, etc
Would you ban all dogs above a certain weight?

If its on a lead it's unlikely to break into your house so I wouldn't worry to much.

LaLuz7 · 26/12/2022 21:36

YANBU. That breed is an abomination. And dangerous. And do very ugly. Yuck.

DubLynn · 26/12/2022 21:40

I’d be so scared too and i love dogs. I don't understand why anyone gets these dangerous breeds of dogs.

YellowRedBlueGreen · 26/12/2022 21:40

Those fuckers need to be banned

Whowhatwherewhenwhynow · 26/12/2022 21:42

I don’t really like any dog like that which I couldn’t over power if needed. I don’t get the need for breeds like this.

This. People are ridiculous.

thefirstmrsrochester · 26/12/2022 21:43

YANBU.

If you look at deaths caused by dogs, it’s pretty much always the XL Bully.

I don’t doubt that with anyone experienced dog owner they are not a threat but the breed seems to be such a trend these days and they are going to folk who don’t have the experience to manage a strong dog with the ability to switch to aggression very quickly.

Well yes I would. This dog has got to be about 60kg and isn’t wearing a muzzle. If my spaniel slipped its lead it’s very unlikely to kill another or a human….. this dog is. They should be muzzled at the very least.

Not likely to break into my house, but should I be confined to my house ? Roads are really icey at the moment so someone could easily slip over and lose control.

So let me get this straight. This dog has never shown any aggression towards you or your dog, has never done anything to make you think it has anything but a stable temperament?

It is always on a lead or otherwise contained on your neighbours property? The only thing it has done is exist, basically?

You are scared of it because it is large and muscular and living near you? Jesus Christ, I hope you don't live in the countryside. Cows, horses, you'd be a nervous wreck.

Wolfiefan · 26/12/2022 21:45

It’s on a lead.
It has greeted your dog and shown no aggression.
You can easily avoid them if you wish to.
YABU.

thelobsterquadrille · 26/12/2022 21:46

So the dog has never shown signs of aggression and is always on a lead, but you want it to be banned anyway? 🙄

TwoBoyMamma · 26/12/2022 21:46

These poor dogs ! Such bad press from scaremongering it’s unfair they aren’t all the same like humans they have Individual personalities & behaviours .

YellowRedBlueGreen · 26/12/2022 21:40

Those fuckers need to be banned

Why?
Should we ban forties too?
Alsatians?
Staffies?
Malinois shepherds?

Don’t be so ridiculous.

Quincythequince · 26/12/2022 21:50

rotties rather

Grapewrath · 26/12/2022 21:50

All dogs can be aggressive. There are lots of large, powerful dog breeds.
The owner has it on a lead and it has shown no aggression towards you or your dog. You are being unreasonable

Agree with this completely.

SeenAndNot · 26/12/2022 21:53

The dog has shown no aggression. YABU.

Whilst there are breeds prone to aggression and defensive behaviour all dogs can be aggressive if mistreated. The only dogs I’ve ever been bitten by were Labradors, with idiot owners who didn’t have a clue about dog behaviour.

Bigdamnheroes · 26/12/2022 21:53

If you are confined to your house because you're too scared to walk past a friendly, calm, leashed dog in the street in case it randomly attacks you then you need some therapy. Your neurotic phobias aren't anyone else's problem.

His dog is appropriately trained and under control. He has fulfilled his legal responsibilities. I hate cats, doesn't mean no one else should be allowed to have them. We're not the only species on the planet.

GSD owner here, experienced Foster. No, there's a big difference, a bull breed will always hang on to the end, no matter what, they don't fight like other dogs and have no problem with humans. GSD, Rotties etc if fighting tend to do so in waves and do stop and move back, often will move away. Often will avoid fighting with humans. Bull breeds should all be destroyed. Every rescue I had the opportunity of seeing that was a bull breed I avoided as I had seen so many horror stories.

Horses and cows are generally confined.

I can choose not to be near a bull, I cannot choose not to be near this dog. It lives next door to me and the owner has to take it on a walk.

It doesn’t growl or snap at my spaniel, but it does seem very nervous/intensely stares - not the usually happy waggy greetings.

Strangely one did break into my house! Well my garden and I had the back door open and it came in.

I was in the garage, walked into the kitchen and there it was stood. I did have a few seconds of panic as I have 3 dogs and didn't want an almighty fight.

Thankfully it got on fine with them and they it.

Nope. None of them.that I have seem have passed an aptitude test. They are all unstable particularly with other dogs. Get in a tussle with one and you dont get away.

Exactly. The long stare is the first start of the aggression phase. Usually the scumbags who own them have no idea how to handle these dogs.

Reugny · 26/12/2022 22:00

One of my former neighbours had one and a small dog.

The small dog was vicious and I was always scared he would bit me.

The major risk from the bully was that he would lick you to death.

I've come to the conclusion with dog owners were I live that the majority of those who get a larger breed, choose dogs with good temperaments and train them. There as those who get small dogs don't bother.
