Hurrah for Boxing Day

Does anyone else just love boxing day more than Christmas Day. At the moment I’m lying in bed with my kids, they are playing with their toys and watching cartoons. I’m fully planning to not make them get dressed, let them eat what they want today, chocolate for breakfast. And best of all there are no expectations of what to do today, none coming round, no big meal to sort - it’s just so relaxed! Love that Boxing Day feeling - AIBU?

I feel that way about the day after boxing day. Boxing Day is definitely slower than Christmas Day for us but we always have visitors for a big buffet lunch, so lots of tidying to do from yesterday as we were out all day and there are presents everywhere (small house). Lots of cooking to do. Tomorrow I will be in my pj's all day.

HettySunshine · 26/12/2022 08:18

Yes yea to Boxing Day chill. I have to cook a ham but that is just a put it in the oven and wait affair.

The children have already had bath bomb baths and are not pottering around with their presents and I'm in bed. It is glorious.

HettySunshine · 26/12/2022 08:18

Are NOW pottering.

wonderingpondering1 · 26/12/2022 08:19

@MaverickSnoopy oh yeah maybe I should have said hurrah for ‘the first day visitors aren’t there but the kids are still obsessed enough with their presents that they don’t need to be entertained by you’ 😂

I prefer it. Can’t stand all the expectations of Christmas Day. Boxing Day just feels more relaxed.

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 26/12/2022 08:22

Love it. Mad rush to get through to Christmas Day, which I generally like but there are guests and expectations. Boxing Day we have none of that - DH is doing his jigsaw, the kids are playing with toys and I am eating leftover Christmas pud fried in butter. Bliss.

wonderingpondering1 · 26/12/2022 08:24

My favourite bit is the unwritten rule of eat what you what when you want…choc for breakfast - fine, smoked salmon out the fridge at 11, fine.

Yes! Christmas Day is great fun but there's always a bit of a schedule and the dinner is so time consuming.
Boxing Day is the best, no set times, eat whatever you fancy, nice new clothes to wear for every one and the children can properly play with their toys.

KangarooKenny · 26/12/2022 08:25

I love to tidy up and start getting the presents upstairs. Tidy, tidy, tidy !

wonderingpondering1 · 26/12/2022 08:27

@KangarooKenny i also feel the need to tidy asap, started a bit last night! 🙈

I desperately need to hoover too !

megletthesecond · 26/12/2022 08:29

Yes, no alarms set here. Having a slow start then a good tidy up. There's plenty of food in the fridge so I don't need cook today.

pictoosh · 26/12/2022 08:30

It's far more relaxing for many. Yanbu.

Whatwouldscullydo · 26/12/2022 08:31

I like it in the sense it means Xmas day is over finally. But I'm in retail so I have to work today and that is not so good

JaninaDuszejko · 26/12/2022 08:32

I do love Boxing Day. We still have visitors so there are 8 people to feed but I buy in tons of smoked salmon, nice cheese, pate etc for that, I may heat up a quiche from the local patisserie ifI'm.feeling adventurous. Think I ate so many Lindt Lindor yesterday I couldn't face another chocolate though! Looking forward to 3 Jan when we should have the house to ourselves.

GracePooleslaugh · 26/12/2022 08:33

Yes I love Boxing day, it's going very well so far. Kids are downstairs and I'm drinking tea in bed!

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 26/12/2022 08:34

Boxing Day is my reward for putting up with everyone’s bollocks in December.

Kids are packed off to grandparents and me and our mates are off to the pub 🌲

wonderingpondering1 · 26/12/2022 08:39

@Allmyarseandpeggymartin that sounds amazing!

Love Boxing Day, in fact if I'm honest I love any day after Christmas as have realised I really don't enjoy Christmas day itself.
Christmas is a day stuffed with expectations and the relief that it's over is heavenly.

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 26/12/2022 08:43

I like it but still prefer Christmas Day. Yesterday was lovely - I was feeling sad because we always have DM & DF but we couldn’t see them & actually it turned out really nice just the 3 of us. Plus lunch was about the easiest we’ve ever done so no stress. Today will be good too as we’re going over to my parents with their presents.

itsgettingweird · 26/12/2022 08:50

Yep.

No xmas day pressures.

No swim training for ds.

We will eat lovely foods and watch tv all day.

Tomorrow will be back to housework etc and back to training Wednesday.

susiesuelou · 26/12/2022 08:51

Usually yes, I prefer it. But not this year as DP has had to work today, so he's not long left for work and I'm alone with our toddler. I've got family coming later as I stupidly offered to host a Boxing Day buffet, so now need to clean up from yesterday, sort buffet, shower, and sort toddler by myself ready for family arriving.... And I really can't be bothered!! Just want to relax😩

susiesuelou · 26/12/2022 08:52

But yesterday was lovely and chilled and just the 3 of us, so can't have it all I guess!

AliasGrape · 26/12/2022 08:56

DH has taken toddler downstairs. I can hear them playing with pop up pirate which was a hit present yesterday. My aunt who we are hosting is still in her room reading, I’ve said it’s a help yourself breakfast day today.

Im reading in bed and just ate a chocolate snowman to go with the hot cup of tea DH brought me.

Perfect.

StarsOnDress · 26/12/2022 09:00

Yes! We all go to my mum's for Boxing Day and you can usually find me in my onesie with my feet up on her sofa munching through a tub of Miniature Heroes.

Way better thank the stress of Christmas Day!
