We've just found out that my parents in law have the flu. They didn't tell us because they thought they'd be ok, but they're really not up for hosting tomorrow and don't want to pass it on which is fair enough.

So it'll be just DH and I (and the dog) tomorrow. We have zero food (or alcohol!) in because we were meant to be away for a couple of nights.

Wwyd? Just do party food? Get a takeaway? I'm going to have to brave the shops soon!

how marvellous. Shops are still open, buy booze and ready meals. Enjoy!

WeAreAllSpecksOnARock · 24/12/2022 14:56

Get to the shops now before they close and buy foods you enjoy. Easy!

PuppyMonkey · 24/12/2022 14:56

Sorry, don’t mean it’s marvellous your parents in law have the flu btw.

JoyBeorge · 24/12/2022 14:58

Both. Party food and takeaway. Oh and booze too.

toomuchlaundry · 24/12/2022 14:58

We’ve just been shopping, supermarket was not too bad

Reasonablereasonableness · 24/12/2022 14:58

We have similar here due to COVID. I am raiding the freezer!

itsgettingweird · 24/12/2022 14:58

I agree - just buy what you want for a few days and enjoy.

Shops will be open again in a few days if you need more then.

Hope PIL feel better soon.

OriginalUsername2 · 24/12/2022 15:00

I’d still want my roast meats so that would be my priority, before they run out! I wouldn’t bother trying to find a non-frozen Turkey but hopefully there’d be ham, beef, chicken.

TherealmrsT · 24/12/2022 15:00

Sainsbury's had lots of everything an hour ago and were not that busy, buy whatever you fancy.
2years ago I got caught at home alone when lockdown rules changed and cooked all my favourite bits of our traditional meals and left out the bits I wasn't fussed about, stayed in bed late, watched what I wanted on TV and had a much better day than expected.

Nimbostratus100 · 24/12/2022 15:01

just pop down to the shops and see what is there- better than planning a list, and finding half of what you want is sold out. ENjoy

Angeldelight81 · 24/12/2022 15:02

The shops are absolutely empty. I manage to stroll into M&S at 10 o’clock. Picked up the two items that I needed and I was in an out in under five minutes car park was great too

randomsabreuse · 24/12/2022 15:03

There were loads of fresh turkeys reduced in Lidl last night and Sainsbury's this morning so go see what you can find...

Muchtoomuchtodo · 24/12/2022 15:03

Head to the shops. See what’s left that you fancy. Any combination of anything will be great!

have a fabulous time, this would be my perfect Christmas this year but the opposite of what we’re doing.

Hope the in laws are better soon xx

Clymene · 24/12/2022 15:03

Go to M&S and get tasty easy food and booze. Shops are open again Monday

thelobsterquadrille · 24/12/2022 15:03

Go to the supermarket now and buy whatever you fancy. Doesn't have to be a full roast if you CBA to cook one!

Shinyandnew1 · 24/12/2022 15:04

Hmmm, depends if you love a roast or not? I’d be going to buy all the yum toast dinner stuff in Tesco and hods of booze quick!

Floralnomad · 24/12/2022 15:05

Plenty of time to shop this afternoon and where we are the shops are quieter than they’ve been all week .

caringcarer · 24/12/2022 15:07

DH just got back from Morrisons. He went to fetch whipping cream and look for Satsumas. He said no more busy than normal and he arrived back with a half price turkey, a half price turkey crown, 2 Pukka cheese and leak pies for 20p each for lunch today. No Satsumas. Turkey and crown put straight I to freezer as had already bought one for 27th or 28th as at sons Xmas day and MiL Boxing day. Loads of food left on shelves except no large free range eggs.

Purplecatshopaholic · 24/12/2022 15:08

Buy booze. Get a take away. Have a fab time

BCBird · 24/12/2022 15:08

Sorry to hear ur in laws are unwell butbi woukd treat this as a rare opportunity to do whatever you like. Stroll round the no doubt empty shops and pick up whatever you like. It can be anything can't it? Christmas your way
Enjoy. You can have Christmas with your in laws when they are on their feet . U could pop summat easy for them.yo microwave if they not up.to cooking. M And S had a Christmas dinner for 6 pound.

AnyFucker · 24/12/2022 15:09

Is this meant to be a difficult dilemma ? 😵‍💫

ScroogeMcDuckling · 24/12/2022 15:09

The shops are open Boxing Day, and I bet there will be quite abit of reduced, so it’s only a day to worry about.

do your favourite meal tomorrow what ever that is, after all, it should be a lovely relaxing day, not getting stressy because the bloody great chicken isn’t cooked properly!!

WimbyAce · 24/12/2022 15:10

I went shopping earlier and it was fine, no queues at the checkouts. Fill your boots!

LimeCheesecake · 24/12/2022 15:11

If you’ve not gone yet - hit M&S shortly, everything gets discounted. Nice food, buy wine and watch Christmas tv. Go for a big walk after lunch to get fresh air. Boxing Day book a table somewhere

baffledcoconut · 24/12/2022 15:12

Have the best time! Play yellow sticker dinner and eat all the treats - live on sausage rolls if you want to! Go wild
