Not the norm

Cap89 · 23/12/2022 20:02

Mine was, but because we get on really well. I wouldn’t say it’s the norm. None of my other friends have, despite being good friends with them in lots of cases. Certainly not an expectation

SunshineLollipopsRainbow · 23/12/2022 20:02

Nope they were not!

ALittleBitAhAh · 23/12/2022 20:03

Mine were, but I also consider them good friends.

scrivette · 23/12/2022 20:05

Mine wasn't and I wasn't for my SIL's.

Gufo · 23/12/2022 20:05

Nope

Aprilx · 23/12/2022 20:06

I always thought it was the norm and have seen it many times. I didn’t do it myself as my husband doesn’t have a sister.

Waitingfordecember · 23/12/2022 20:06

Mine was. It seemed a nice way of including DH’s side in the wedding party.

MichaelFabricantWig · 23/12/2022 20:06

I have 2, and no they weren’t

imnotwhoyouthinkiam · 23/12/2022 20:06

I'm not married but am a SIL.

I wasn't a BM at my brothers 1st wedding.

I was maid of honour at his second.

I didn't even attend my other brothers wedding.

VariationsonaTheme · 23/12/2022 20:07

Literally every wedding I’ve been to, the bride has had her new sil as a bridesmaid.

mummabear2023 · 23/12/2022 20:07

No, I don't think it's the norm unless your particularly close. We're a lot closer now than when I got married but I still don't think I'd have her as bridesmaid now.

PolliFlinders · 23/12/2022 20:08

Youngest sister was.

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 23/12/2022 20:08

My SiL wasn’t around and the time, but her and my BiL are getting married next year and I’m not in the wedding party

mummabear2023 · 23/12/2022 20:08

I must admit though I did feel judged for not having her by a lot of people (both sides of family and close friends) so maybe that is the norm in some peoples heads

35965a · 23/12/2022 20:09

Not the norm IME

MilkyYay · 23/12/2022 20:09

Mine was but I like her, we get on well, and i knew she'd be really happy to be asked. Other brother's wife didn't have her though.

HappiCamper · 23/12/2022 20:10

No, but their daughters were.

boogiejive · 23/12/2022 20:10

I had both of mine (husband's sisters). One's been married twice since and I've not been asked.

MissBPotter · 23/12/2022 20:10

No and I would say it’s unusual. It should be close friends or sisters/cousins of bride, it’s not the groom’s family’s domain.

DappledThings · 23/12/2022 20:11

Nope. Never occurred to me. Never seen it at any wedding I've been to either.

I've seen a lot of SILs asked to do readings (we asked DH's sister to do this) and I was a witness at my brother's wedding.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 23/12/2022 20:12

No because I have 3 and wanted two of my friends

Jackonary · 23/12/2022 20:13

I had my neices from my husbands side as my SIL is older than me/already married.

I also had my sister and my friend.

ASCB31 · 23/12/2022 20:13

Mine was, because we were very close at the time we got married. Her kids were also in our wedding party
